Would this be interesting to TAS? I'd imagine it would be pretty long to watch given the slow pace of the game, but if luck manipulation was taken to the max, it would probably be pretty interesting to see the insane drops. Another note is that this game doesn't work for me on the current Dolphin emulator but it does on an older build. EDIT: Silly me, I picked the wrong emulator. It does work on the official "for TASing" one in the dolphin forum on this site.

This sounds very interesting to me. I'd love to see someone take up the challenge.

I'd like to see this too, PSOv2 was one of the reasons I kept hoping for a re-recording Dreamcast emulator, I keep forgetting there were other (expanded, even) console ports

Hi ! I'm really interested in TASing this awesome game after I'm done with any% Billy Hatcher. The route making may take some time, so I was thiniking about starting working on this now :) Here is a huge database of Phantasy Star Online : http://www.pso-world.com/ Before doing anything, I would like to know : should there be a run of Episode 1 and a run of Episode 2 or a long run of Episode 1&2 with the same character ? EDIT : ... It seems that the pattern and the drop from boxes/monsters are all decided... when you select "Episode 1" and nothing else. This is going to be a hard RNG to manipulate :/

look for SDA's speedrun cause there are some exploits to be made http://speeddemosarchive.com/PhantasyStarOnline.html Dreamcast has a pass thru locked doors glitch? wow. also,it appears some versions can item dupe and others not.
I want all good TAS inside TASvideos, it's my motto. TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.

I would say if you did end up TASing PSO, TAS at least Episode 1, and if you decide to do Episode 2 then use the same character to shorten things up a bit.

I alrerady read it and the full thread (I put the link here because it's kinda hard to find) :p Not much exploits on GC version, the speedrun relies at 90% on skill and luck manipulation. If all the versions of PSO are the same, then luck manipulating if going to be try and retry... with the idea to get powerful at the begining :p

Yeah, I was thinking maybe the choice of character/faction would be influenced by if we do both episode or just one, but I guess not. I'm thinking about doing both episode anyway, to really complete the game.

my vote goes to doing both with the same character. how much time would glitching through doors save? guess it's irrelevant because we can only tas gamecube for now.

BioSpark -> Door glitching is one thing, but what would be awesome is if the DC version has an easier way to luck manipulate. The only thing we can do right now is manipulating luck by choosing our name (changes the drop and drop rate - see pso-world for that) and the episode menu selection. Which isn't really great. Especially to manipulate the whole game : - Get good patterns in every world - Get good drops at the beginning I guess a FOnewearl would be the best to not have to manipulate too much stuff at the same time, but this actually seems pretty heavy.

I suppose there's always the option of quitting between levels so you could do luck manipulation on a per level basis instead, but in order for that to save any time it would have to be a very significant change in luck from the sounds of things.

Operation related to TAS of N64/GC/Wii/PS2 emulator is often investigated.

asutoro -> Thanks ! I don't have time to watch all these, but that remembered me of meseta duplication ! But I think it takes too much time to be in a TAS... well, that's my opinion :p And I completely forgot about the 99 photon glitch too... Guess I have to look on the internet and play the game again to remember everything :p

Guys, I can't really help much cause I don't have enough free time now, but I can give you some useful information since I've been playing and been around foruns about this game for almost 10 years now. 1. The door glitch does not work on the GC version AFAIK 2. If you're going to TAS the "Plus" version, so forget about duplicating items talking to the lady to trigger the glitch, it was patched on this version. 3. Although psoworld is a good source of some kinds of information, like maps, there are lots of things that are wrong on their database, enemy drops percentage as an example, they calculated them based on the reports from people, but the actual rates can be found elsewhere, more on that later. 4. I'd totally put my bet on a HUcast for the best char out there to be chosen for this TAS, if you take the records for challenge mode from this same place I'll talk later, almost all of them were done with HUcasts, they have really high ATP from the beginning, and for a speedrun their ATP growth make them a great char of choice. 5. The place I'm talking about is schtserv, it's a private server for PSO, the knowledge level about this game around there is astonishing, when making your decisions, you should always check with the guys out there if your plan is the best possible. Also they have a database too, but this time all the information is taken out of the game itself, from it's files, so there's no mismatching. You should definitely go there before you start this TAS, I'm sure there'll be people willing to help you with this. I hope I could be of help, I could give you more specific information but it would be pointless since you'll find much more reliable sources there, here's the url: www.schtserv.com/forum

Nice ! I was actually looking for somebody like you, since I didn't play this game for.. almsot 10 years ? And at this time, nobody was allowed to talk about cheat :/

I heard some people made it with saber, but I never found any evidence about that, so I would assume it doesn't work. I will make some test when I can though.

Damn, I read that on PSO-world yeah, glitching some agtaride would be great...

Thanks for the info.

That's what speedrunners did in the first place, but turns out a FOnewearl was the fastest for them. I still agree with you though that we should stick with HUcasts.

That's awesome, I got the maps with me and I have an idea for the fastest patterns, but the help of people who worked for years on this game would be great !

Well I have a question : Do you think the stat boost glitch (the one you do with the lady - which shouldn't work with the plus version too I guess) would be a waste of time ? I guess it is, since how long it takes to actually do it, but if we find a way to duplicate meseta at the same time (it may be possible ?) and then manipulate the shop, we could get an high level character with an OP weapon to destroy guys like Del Rol Le, which would save a huge amount of time. Maybe. I don't really know actually, I never used this glitch before, since I heard of it after I stopped playing to this game (when everybody started to post glitchs on the net actually ^^).

I watched it and it was... really good. I'm not sure why no Hucast, but that doesn't change a lot of things here... Maybe you used magic somewhere I didn't notice :o But this is a great strat yeah.

I read somewhere that with a Saber, Brand, or no weapon at all we could "go to a corner of a blocked or a laser blocked door. Face the corner, then start attacking. Keep doing this, and you will eventually slip through the door. This trick is useful for getting to new places early. Note: This trick is difficult to execute." I tested it and on some doors (not all of them), my character seems to indeed being pushed (I didn't slip through the door yet though). Does anybody have any experience with that ? I couldn't find any video/post/anything about his but from this website...

They patched that in some versions. I think it's out of GC 1.1 and Plus but it might be in 1.0. Could only be dreamcast exclusive.

The first part was, "Ho hum. Doing stuff. Then about six minutes in, 'IMA BREAK DIS!'" What the heck just happened?! There's three versions of the US disk. 1.0 which is not Plus and only has English. 1.01 which has multiple languages. 1.1 which is known as Plus.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

Basically from what I understand he did duplication of item (the laser saber which is the default wqeapon of the game) and then he used a glitch to equip them all at the same time, adding of course the stats of all the weapons :p EDIT : Ok, if I can't figure out how to door glitch with a saber, I may have another idea : - Start with RAmar - Manipulate to get good forest 1 and 2 - Manipulate to get handgun +1 in store - Go and sell everything you have at the beginning, buy handgun +1 - Do item duplication to get handgun many time - Equip them all - Win the game The reason for this is that you can kill the enemies from distance, while with a saber you would have to run at them. The ATP difference won't be a huge loss (I don't think so) since: - You got xx times the handgun equiped - You can shoot the flying ennemies (like th edragon) while... they're flying. Which is awesome. This is a fast reflexion | non-tested at all ~ but I would like to know your opinion about that :p

I’m looking into this game’s RNG for the RTA community so I’ll just be posting my findings here. The RAM seems to be duplicate for some reason, for example the RNG is in both 0x09293E00 and 0x0B2C3E00 (USA ver). GPOE8P is the game ID for USA version. The second RNG address is the only one that’s working as a breakpoint for me. The RNG is 4 bytes big endian. At the start of the game, it gets seeded to 1 (weird value imo). After that, it does 1 step at the SEGA screen. Does another at DOLBY SURROUND. Does another entering the “Agree” screen, keeps stepping every 10 seconds or so; if you’re fast, you can avoid any extra steps. Shit part starts here: during the main menu, the RNG advances every frame with differing amounts of steps depending on the background animation. It mostly alternates between 16 and 22, but does 6 every 10th frame. Sometimes it doesn’t advance on one frame, and ends up doing 2 advances with the same amount of steps in a row. Past the main menu, it does 1 step each 10 or so seconds; keeps doing this until you’ve selected the class for the character you want to create. Then it starts advancing every frame. Out of that, you again have 10 or so seconds between steps to select Episode, then the map layouts/drops are decided during the loading screen. The RNG formula is: xnew = (1103515245 xold + 12345) % 232 A quick test didn’t show any change in RNG depending on ID color. Edit: I don’t think what I said about the number of steps is true. The RNG is weird. It does some steps with the basic formula, but then others I can’t tell what they are. Also during the character selection screen it does single steps of a formula that only sometimes matches the basic one…

Oh man, I was really sad because the site died, but I didn't remember abou this topic. Now I'm even more sad. Maybe you can try to contact Lee or Aleron Ives, who were the main 2 people to look for there. I don't know where to find them though.
