It looks like Sligfantry has got a world record speedrun of Abe's Exoddus. Anyone would like to do his run on TAS? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYFprveqdL0&list=PLSNM7eY5jhAsJ_xwyTUuma5XiP62bao3g

I'm downloading all four parts to watch later, but the first part already impressed me, for real. My update of Oddysee has not had much impact, I think a new run would have a better result. It won't take long to finish my current project, then I'll make an attempt at Exoddus too.

So are you making a new any% run on Oddysee?

No. I have plans to redo the 100% run of Oddysee in the future, but my current project is Congo's Caper for SNES. edit; with that out of my way, I'll start working on a testrun. sad edit: The Tunnel 3 Skip trick, as seen in Sligfantry’s run only hangs the game in the PSX version: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1436561371/Dooty-Exoddus-Failed.pxm Without the trick it won’t beat any existing records, so, I’m giving up the project for now. Tried on ePSXe and it also hangs the game, but with an error message: I have a real PSX here, but I don't have a "real" CD Rom to test it anymore...

Dooty, I think you should update the 100% TAS instead with the new tricks.

Yeah, I'm already planning some of the rescues, the Stop & Turn trick can make wonders! But I hope that one day the PC version of Exuddus becomes "TASeable", I really do.

I'm also interested of doing Exoddus, my favourite game from childhood and I still love it. I started a normal investigating gameplay run (trying to save all 300 mudokons, so it'd be a 100% run, I am not interested of the low%), and I probably have to master some tricks (if there is any other than the auto-turn delay known currently?) Though the game looks very, very crap on psxjin: But I think it's still fully playable, though the graphics are really bad emulated. I may make some sample wip's from the first level(s) on upcoming week, if I just have time and inspiration. Has anyone ideas if there is some way to make the game look better than in that picture on psxjin? Because on ePSXe it runs really great, but psxjin doesn't have any options to change plugins so this is the best I can get.

You should play Exoddus on PCSX-rr, here's the correct, well, the better video plugin: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=179164#179164 but to TAS it, you must use the TAS video plugin, and bear the horrible graphics... About the glitches; all of them are based on the auto turn delay, even the Stop & Turn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIo1TJUBGlo

Ah nice, thanks for that video. I tried to trigger that glitch, took some practicing but at least I can perform it on the emulator, on real time it seems really hard to do or it just needs some practicing :P But but, we have a bigger problem. Here's a (horrible quality...) video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1meQlqWyl8&feature=youtu.be (sorry about the quality, couldn't do better. But the video does show the point) So. I do have completed both Bonewerkz and Slig Barracks (also the amount of rescued Mudokons tell you that, 192 is the count after Bonewerkz&Barracks I think). But still I can't continue to FeeCo Depot, or Brevery neither. I have encountered the same glitch on a real PS1 and an original copy of the game, but what is the problem? I can go back to Barracks and Bonewerkz, re-rescue all the mudokons (I wonder what kinds of bugs does this cause) so the total Escapee amount would go over 300 without any kind of cheating, or ever reaching the end of the game.

I did a fast test video of the first level: Link to video The quality is very shit and not good playing either but regardless of the bad graphics emulation, the game seems to be fully playable, the appearance doesn't affect gameplay at all. So some good news. But if someone has some help for that Feeco depot problem (said it in my last message), it would be great.

Weird glitch, but it's a very long time since I last played this game rescuing all of the Modokons. Are you sure you're not missing anything? Here's the FAQ (I think) that I used: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/198221-oddworld-abes-exoddus/faqs/27495

I did a segmented Exoddus 100% run and it's with the verifiers. I only used the auto-turn glitch though.

Here is my full 100% segmented speedrun done on the PC version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_sUviwFH-0&feature=youtu.be I have made a few mistakes in this run but it's good for a first attempt.

Ah I found the reason for the glitch. You can see it in the video. I had been thinking about it for a while, but only now I see what makes it to happen. Link to video I finished my first test run (I accidentatly killed one mudokon, but I know where, so there is no problems, all other 299 were saved correctly) so I think now I can start doing some WIP's, maybe on the next week I have made some progress. And I have to learn how to use that stop&turn glitch since it seems to be pretty hard for me to perform. But I hope I'll find it out, I'll post a longer WIP on next week if I have time.

Yeah, to learn the stop&turn is a must. You can save a little bit of time in a lot of places where you need to climb ledges in the oposite direction. Not to mention rooms that are interconnected, but are separated by walls. Know how to use this trick combined with the auto-turn delay is the only way to find such rooms. Each TASer has their favorite methods, but I prefer to use VSync Advance instead of Frame Advance. It's a lot easier to perform complex tricks advancing frames this way. Well, I wish you good luck!

I finally figured out what was freezing the any% run on the PSX; It's not possible to use these wells with Abe out of screen. (if it's not on screen, it doesn't exist) But... all doors work! And, at least the ones I can reach, are open. So, the Tunnel 3 skip is possible on the PSX version too. It will be a little slower than the PC version skip, but it's a lot easier to test possible shortcuts on the PSX version. So, I was planning to do the 100% first, but now that the skip is possible, I'll try the any% instead.

So how do I do the tunnel 3 skp in the PSX version?

It's kinda awkward, but it works; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1910630600/movie.pxm After the stop'n'turn trick, Abe will land here, but the camera won't follow him; And here's a modified Oddysee script, it's useful to "see" where he is going; http://pastebin.com/download.php?i=qSMLCcGA

OMG! That is a nice WIP Dooty! Sligfantry missed that early backwards jump setup! You are an amazing glitch finder Dooty! I think you should be awarded for the best PlayStation TASer of the year!

I'm glad you liked it, but there's no way to beat Sligfantry's run; 1) FMVs skipped at speed of light on the PC. (how?) 2) Loading times absurdly looooong on the PSX. 3) No new shortcut found yet. anyways, I'm doing "Paramonia" right now. Sorry, I don't know the correct name for this stage. And Best PlayStation TASer of the year? I wish. :)

In Exoddus Paramonia is the Mudomo Vaults and Scrabiana has the Mudanchee Vaults and the FMV's are skipped fully in the PC Version by just removing the .DDV files in the game's folder!

Um... is it not considered cheat to alter the game to have so much advantage by removing the FMVs? SDA may have different rules, I suppose. In any case, I'm stuck, not only on Oddysee, but also on Exoddus; http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1130256456/movie.pxm It's time to swap discs, but the emulator is crashing every time I try to do so. :(

Using a cheat (hold R1 and press Circle, Circle, X, X, Square, Square) to skip stages, I'm able to swap to CD2 no problem. (if I try to start the game using disc 2 I can also swap to disc 1) but using the select level cheat (hold R1 and press Down, Up, Left, Right, Triangle, Square, Circle, Triangle, Square, Circle, Down, Up, Left, Right) gives me the same emulator crash. On ePSXe I can use both cheats without crashing the emulator, so I guess it really is an emulator issue. So, I'm going back to Oddysee to try to fix it. This run will be on hold for now, I'm sorry.
