"Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories" in 53:30.53
  • Emulator used: psxjinv2.0.2 (bios: SCPH1001.BIN, use default setting)
  • ROM used: Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories.bin
Goal:
  • Aim for fastest time
  • No DISCARDING
  • Complete the game as fast as possible not fully true, because I have to manipulate to get good cards!
  • First, manipulate to have Raigeki and Dragon Treasure in Starter Deck, then manipulate to get Dragon and Thunder-Type monsters, to creat the most powerful Fusion monster: Twin-headed Thunder Dragon (ATK: 2800, DEF: 2100)
  • Use this strategy to win every duels
  • The hardest one is to get Meteor B. Dragon (ATK: 3500, DEF: 2000) from Low Meadow (this is a key card to finish the game). After aquiring it, everything is easier, and just have to avoid Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon at the 3 last bosses!
TAS details:
  • 1st duel: vs Rex Raptor: Starter Deck, not very strong, manage to get Dragon Zombie (Zombie/1600/0)
  • 2nd duel: vs Weevil Underwood: get Fireyarou (Pyro/1300/1000) (others are just Insects..)
  • 3rd duel: vs Mai Valentine: get Darkfire Dragon (Dragon/1500/1250)
  • 4th duel: vs Bandit Keith: avoid his Zoa (Fiend/2600/1900) and get The Immortal of Thunder (Thunder/1500/1300)

  • 9th duel: vs Kaiba: avoid his Blue Eyes White Dragon (Dragon/3000/2500) and get Blackland Fire Dragon (Dragon/1500/800)

  • 20th duel: vs Martis: get Zoa (Fiend/2600/1900)
  • 21th duel: vs Labyrinth's Guard: get The Immortal of Thunder (Thunder/1500/1300)
from now on just manipulate to win fast
  • 22th duel: vs Sebek
  • 23th duel: vs Neku
  • 24th duel: vs Heishin
  • 25th duel: vs Seto: avoid his Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon (Dragon/4500/3800)
  • 26th duel: vs Dark Nite (1st form)
  • 27th duel (last duel): vs Dark Nite (2nd form): avoid his Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon (Dragon/4500/3800)
Game Trick:
  • Use game shuffle to manipulate cards at start
  • Number of Fusions, Attacks, Magic used and Life Point will decide the obtained card
  • Screenshots:
Speacial:
  • Number of re-record is low, because I only have to manipulate at start of the duel
  • My English is not good so I can't write much! Sorry!

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Audience response to the movie has been positive overall. Accepting for Moons tier.

oh hoh hoh.. We know the memes concerning Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series are coming here. Firstly, I'm watching as we speak but I've been up all night so probably wont finish for a while. Secondly, had no idea you were even doing this TAS .. I'd thought about picking it up before but figured it'd be pretty repetitive (but what do I know .. if you think about it all games are repetitive).. I'll just stick to spyro for now. I'll offer my complete inputs when I'm done finished below; Do hope to not be disappointed. :) Edit: Okay, watched it all. Loved it but was a bit repetitive.. Still entertaining and considering the way this game is meant to be played I'll give it a yes.

I was going to vote No for lack of optimization. Then I realized that you're doing luck manipulation. The biggest question I have is could you not do better RNG manip just by changing up the order of monsters that attack and/or fusing different monsters at different times? This is where it looks like the low re-records is hurting you.
The card manipulation, first, depends on number of Fusions (fuse 2cards, 3cards, etc..) and is counted at each round. Fusing different monsters still counts as a Fusion. Then it depends on number of Attacks (only be used at last round), Increase/Decrease Power and LP. Order of monster attack does not change the card I will receive after the duel!

Wouldn't it be faster to manipulate the pieces of Exodia into your deck/into winning them, then just manipulate them into your opening hand continuously?

You'll have to take it up with the original author, but from what I understand, there is a lot of weirdness in how luck is manipulated. In the Pokémon Trading Card Game run, the frame on which the battle is started determines how the decks are shuffled, so the author finds a frame when the opponent starts with a weak hand with only one Basic Pokémon, and rearranges his own deck so the right cards to deliver a one-hit knockout get drawn. In this game, the author apparently has to deliberately defeat the opponent in more turns than optimal to manipulate the next battle. In other words, luck can't be manipulated in quite the same free way that it is in Pokémon. In any event, the fact that this run is under one-twelfth the length of the current non-assisted world record impresses me without even having to watch it.

Yeah, I fully recognize how impressive this is if only because I took the time to try and beat this game as a child and quite literally broke a controller throwing it at the wall because I could not get past freaking Kaiba in the first tournament :P Not to mention trying again like 10 years later and struggling to legit beat it because of Mr. Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. To my knowledge most people outside of TAS can only manipulate exodia pieces from Simon Muran, which you have to go out of your way to beat, though you /can/ beat him as your first opponent. Which means you could, in theory, beat him five times to ensure you get all five pieces, then forever manipulate for exodia. I'm not sure if beating him, then playing five extra battles, then going back to story for /faster forever/ battles could even save time though. Since I half recall without tas manip you have to do something stupid like deck out Simon to get the S-TEC rating to possibly get an exodia piece, lol. The thing that confused me the most about this run was simply the fact that he kept manipulating to get /better cards/, when... it seems like one could just as easily use the same deck through and through and not care about card manipulation outside of things like P.U.G.M and B.E.U.D or even Gate guardian/etc, at which point grab and always get, which he does. I suppose I'll just have to accept it as optimized though, not that my vote matters or anything. Still fun to watch, if not slightly twitchy because everyone automatically goes 'But that's not the optimal move!' thanks to luck manip.

One question I have. When the author says that drops depended on certain actions, did he mean that you can literally fight every duel the exact same way and expect to win the exact same cards every time? Or did he mean that it depended on certain actions in the sense that that was the only way he could change the outcomes of the game?

yeah once the duel is started it's not sensitive to timing it seems. which is why even unassisted it's possible to figure out lucky stuff that works. Real time, i've seen very similar events happen repeatedly.

what are the triggers for the final battles? my friend just told me he didn't fight all the mages but already fought the labyrinth guard. Is taht a skip or only the battles against sebek and others need the millenium items?
TAS i'm interested: Megaman series, specially the RPGs! Where is the mmbn1 all chips TAS we deserve? Where is the Command Mission TAS? i'm slowly moving away from TASing fighting games for speed, maybe it's time to start finding some entertainment value in TASing.
