Castlevania - Harmony Of Dissonance TAS "Maxim,All Bosses" in 07:30.79 by McBobX

Details:

Takes damage to save time

Usually, most of Castlevania HoD TASes forgose taking damage with Juste or Maxim. But this time,it is necessary to take it when warping from Luminous Cavern A to Luminous Cavern B after destroying Death.

Uses Warps

Comparing to the "Maxim in bounds" entry, this run use wall glitch in order to warp to any wanted place. Also it forgose using the normal warping which is in the current branch

Luck Manipulation

Moving using dash, slide or something else, can manipulate damage given (Critical Hits)

Aims for fastest time possible

I try to defeat all bosses as fast as possible, and I have done 1 min and 52 sec faster than Tarion's run due to change all the route and more optimization

Special Thanks:

  • To Tarion for his effort by doing an "All Bosses" run as Maxim. It helped me
  • All Castlevania HoD TASers

for publisher

If this encode is good and accepted as an officiel one, please setup the link on publication

I hope you will enjoy the run

feos: Accepting as an improvement to the existing "Maxim, all bosses" run.
As for encode, official HD should be still put to TVC and embedded at first (to generate the proper movie description), then the author should put that description to his YouTube upload, this way we can then allow his encode to be embedded officially to the publication page.
Spikestuff: Keeps Staring at Pokemon. What Castlevania? What Guga_ wants do something else... okay I will.

This has been a good week for Maxim. I've always wondered how all the crazy zipping in HoD works. Yes vote.

Guga: I presume your reaction is because you figure the effort in publishing the recent movie feels wasted. While that can be frustrating, keep this in mind: * You don't have to be in a hurry to make a different encode or publication or anything. * We should be encouraging more improvement of movies. I don't think McBobX waited on this submission just to give you more work to do. * If Tarion's movie inspired an improvement, then its publication was not wasted effort! McBobX: Nice improvement! There was a much better Bat fight at the very beginning, and the Dracula Wraith was beaten without any shurikens. The Max Slimer and Peeping Big fights look like they have much less lag. The damage during the warp after Death doesn't look great, but I'm fine with it if it's necessary for the route. I liked the warp in the sky you do shortly afterward to get to the Sky Walkway. It is worth noting that this run skips the elevator down to the final fight. That's sort of funny to see, because the main point of beating all the bosses is to enable that elevator! However, since we're allowing long-distance warps in this category now, the elevator skip is perfectly legal here. Yes vote, though I'd like to hear some details about Legion (corpse) if that's alright. I don't know why you delay as long as you do before attacking the core once it's visible.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Is there a reason why you keep exiting boss rooms via the doors? Can't you glitch out of them after the kill?

Should the note in the movie description about obsoleting the in-bounds run still be there? This run doesn't directly obsolete the "in bounds" run, but said run was on the site for over 4.5 years before it was obsoleted, so it's possible that some people who missed the last publication might wonder where the "in bounds" movie went.

I kept it there because on how quick the other run was taken over.... it was a just in case thing.

Since it now says "this category obsoletes", it's perfectly ok even for a few future runs in the same branch..
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

McBobX's, we would put your encode into the publication if you paste the following description to it:
This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see http://tasvideos.org/2548M.html

This is a really fast TAS through Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance played as Maxim, who is only available after the game is beaten. Unlike in the glitch-warped run (http://tasvideos.org/1899M.html) , the protagonist doesn't directly fight Dracula and instead defeats every boss, reaching Dracula the intended way. However, this doesn't stop Maxim from making short work of every boss and sinking into walls wherever he wants.

This category obsoletes the in-bounds Maxim run (http://tasvideos.org/1162M.html) because, even though they don't have the same goals, out-of-bounds tricks were deemed more entertaining.

McBobX's run in this category saves about 1:50.95 () over the previous movie due to route changes and optimization.

Note: This movie starts where the main quest movie (http://tasvideos.org/2344M.html) left off. We don't usually accept movies beginning from a save, though. Please read our rules (http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html) to see our reasons.

That change was my doing after the comments above. Glad to see the wording works for people.

Thanks for that, mklip2001! I think you fixed the problem.
