Svimmer recently interviewed Radix regarding TASing: https://files.tasvideos.org/nach/Radix%20on%20TASing.pdf You can post your thoughts here. Anyone want to rewrite this in our wiki in the appropriate section? Wiki: Interviews Edit: Page now up: Wiki: Interviews/Radix/TASVideosDoc

Not to badmouth him or anything, but wasn't Radix one of the most vocal opponents and bashers of TASing back in the day? I seem to remember something like that. If that's the case, I find this answer from him a bit... disingenuous: "I didn't like that it was portrayed as a legitimate play through. I had no problem with the concept though."

I generally avoided those ridiculous bash sessions so I don't know who any of these people are, however, from what I've seen, these people ignored how we bent over backwards to portray these as TASs, with huge bold writing, glossaries, and more. They just seemed to complain because they didn't like how something like this could possibly dare to rival their speed records even in another form. So yeah, if he's from the above group, I wouldn't trust a statement like that either.

I'll do it. I have a couple of questions though: Is there a way to incorporate Svimmer's comments into the interview page, or should I only transcribe the questions and answers, to keep the format used by the other interview write-ups we have? And do you know which medium this was conducted over? Some of the other interviews note that the interview "was conducted by e-mail". EDIT: Never mind, I just left out Svimmer's asides and any mention of medium. The page has been created here: Wiki: Interviews/Radix/TASVideosDoc

Svimmer, your comments would be appreciated. Edit: CoolKirby: Thank you!

Thanks Nach for pointing me to this thread. Thanks Kirby for creating the page. It was conducted via PMs so "by e-mail" is probably fine. There were more questions and answers that I had left out to avoid a bit of repetition. What comes to bashing I personally wouldn't have a clue who did what when. All I saw was that one quotation like I explained at the beginning of the interview. And based on what he said, Morimoto's TAS was right about the only one he ever saw until more recently, so... Personally I never thought he was lying or anything. There may have been misunderstandings and we know what time does with memories. I'll give you the rest of the Qs'n'As so you can see everything he said. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6VbXOZpnj6MYUJNRVFFWThBRms/edit?usp=sharing You could also link the full text, because that's what Radix actually approved of publishing and because I put a tiny bit of effort into it after all. Guys, keep expressing your opinions, whether positive of negative! It lets me know it's getting read. I might direct Radix to read them as well if that's called-for.

You're welcome, guys.

Thanks for the information and the more complete document! And don't worry, I'll copy the full text to the interview page. None of your work will go to waste.

I thought it was cool how his opinion changed of TASes over ten years, and I found it interesting that AGDQ 2014 allowed him to see console-verified runs again for the first time since he saw Morimoto's run (another way we succeeded in reaching out to people through that event). And I'm glad he doesn't mind us now; a lot of us like him and love SDA and speedruns.

He never liked them, but I cannot remember him being openly hostile about them as a concept. Unless of course someone dared submit them to sda. In fact, he was the first from SDA staff to be constructive enough to post the TAS explanation page to educate speedrunners about the issues surrounding them. You may be confusing him with nate, from metroid2002.com. He helped out on sda, mostly with capturing and encoding from VHS tapes (since he had the equipment), and was very hostile towards TASing. He wouldn't explain the concept of TASing without using the word "cheating", he openly talked about wanting to "destroy" TASing, and his own forum had some not-so-nice word replacements for the word TAS. I don't know where he stands today.

Now that you mention it, you are absolutely correct. I apologize for my mistake.
