A free Game Maker game currently in development, aiming to recreate Metroid 2 in the style of the GBA games. I'm very excited for it. A demo is out, check it out here.
Considering that the game is basically Metroid, I think it should make good TASing material once finished. I haven't checked to see whether it runs in hourglass yet, which might be a problem since it's a Game Maker game.
What do you guys think?
I have trouble getting excited about Metroid 2 fan remakes considering how many of them have gone unfinished, but if this one bucks the trend then hey, awesome.

I'm definitely gonna do a run for this game once it's finished. Assuming it will be finished and that it works with Hourglass, naturally.
The game is a bit linear which could be a bit boring, but it's very solid nonetheless. Inspired me to play it several times in a row in fact (regardless of the fact that the metroids were insufferable.)
Not sure what the difficulty differences are though - I've only played on hard. My guess is that the enemies do more damage? If that is the case then it seems rather uninspired to play on the hardest difficulty, since I believe there is no single instance where taking damage actually saves time.
Tried running this in hourglass, it ran but inputs do not work
TAS plans (if I feel like TASing):
Ninja Crusaders 1-player.
Toy Story 2 any% (maybe if can I fix crosshair not moving)
Paper Mario 3D Land (if I fix the inputs not working problem)
Quint's Revenge (see PM3DL)
Mega Man 10 Proto man easy
I made a segmented any% glitchless run of the 1.41 version (the latest one) but still can be improved by 7 - 10 seconds due to little mistakes and new strats being discovered.

It is glitchless due to an out of bounds glitch that was discovered and due to this a new category was made, you have to beat 12 metroids and get OoB to get to the DEMO END trigger.
Naatiska holds the current WR for the Any% OoB category:

I still have to make the 100% one but thanks to the out of bounds glitch, I found 2 major skips: The Tester skip that saves 40 to 50 seconds and the auto doc mini game skip that saves 42 seconds over the previous route, making sub 47 possible.

I hope that AM2R gets support from Hourglass in the future as I will be routing the full game :)
Another Metroid 2 Remake is released.
I haven't gotten to play the full version yet and probably won't for a while. Regardless, I am excited for what the future might bring.
I expected Nintendo to eventually act on this like they have on ROM sites and whatnot, but this was even quicker than I imagined. It's shameful, really. They haven't done anything decent with the franchise for our money in over ten years, and they prevent its fans from doing anything decent with it for free just as well.
I am happy to say that I acquired the game on the day it launched, but I am sad that the thing has been shut down.
I am still the wizard that did it.

<scrimpy> at least I now know where every map, energy and save room in this game is
I wonder what Nintendo would say if the author made some changes, like called the game "Motreid 2: Return of Sumas". The main character could also be made to look like a man in a bikini and the world map could be a mirror image of the original. Yeah, try to sue that, Nintendo!
It's still available via torrent and other filehoster links set up by users.
Apparently there was also a counter (for a month or so?) and the project was public for several years, so there's no way Nintendo didn't know about this. That they sent the takedown notices a day after the release seems quite deliberate.
Maybe in Nintendo's mind there's the impression that for a fanproject's producers there's a small step between "yay, we did create a thing" and "hey, we could probably make some money with it", and that's what they don't want.

You don't really have to look for reasons of actions done by insane people.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
The exact same thing happened with Streets of Rage Revisited -- left alone for the entirety of development and then sent a takedown notice within a day or two of v1.0 being released.
...kind of odd I haven't heard about this happening with any Megaman or Sonic fangames, of which there must be millions.

It's specifically Nintendo who is really C&D-happy.
Yeah Nintendo are just dickheads on this..

TASVideos is like a quicksand, you get in, but you cannot quit the sand
That strat for the sandpit Gamma at the top right was hella slick. Also never realized you could hit Zetas from behind. Is that usable in unassisted runs?
Also, what are you using for saving/loading?

It wasn't actually used because it's somewhat hard to pull off but now it could be used just for the last zeta and maybe the zeta from area 5 too.
Here's a video about that:

I'm using a custom build that added the debug tools from a debug version before release, I was a tester of the game and I gave a debug version so they could modify it. I would like to TAS the full game but I'm waiting for someone that is going to work on the tools once the unnoficial 1.4 update gets released.
If you are interested here are other ones that I uploaded:

Good shit. Some of those spaceboosts were super nice. Makes me think what could be possible with full precision; think morphball everywhere except when you need to jump/shoot/charge.

What can we expect from the tool-enabled version? Will it have all the basic TAS functionality (savestates, slowdown/frame advance, RAM watch), or will it do less/more? Ideally I'd want it to run in Hourglass, as I'm extremely interested in tinkering with the game myself, but that's up to the Hourglass devs...
