I have a problem, Parasite Eve in US version works very well, but the version based on it but with the French patch does not work. The game works, though, but black screen.

Probably related to SBI subchannels. Check this too. EDIT: download the sbi file and test if it works in Mednafen.

Tomb Raider [Greatest Hits] [NTSC] (E) [SLUS-00152] The game plays very well, the menus work, choosing the game too, kinematic too, but after the cutscene, the game is on a black screen. It is also a problem witth SBI and protection?

you can discover whether its a problem with SBI and protection by playing it in mednafen without the SBI and seeing what happens.

Going to play Spyro: Year of the Dragon, ripped from a PAL disc. You guys were specially wanting this game tested because of its anti-piracy measures not playing nice with emulators, right? Doesn't Zoe appear early on telling you it's that the game is hacked?

For the most part, yes. I think the game has multiple layers of protection.

Zoe exists at the end of first area. Random Eggs will disappear. Locking Special Characters. Stops Game Progression. Lack of sheep in some boss fights. Kicked out of final boss. Language Change (Europe Only).

Well, I played the game, and didn't encounter any of the aforementioned anti-piracy measures, as well as the language staying in English. I was able to beat the Sorceress fine. This is the PAL version, though. I'm not sure if any of the NTSC versions are different in if it runs into trouble there.

as of r8750 SBI files are supported. I used a slightly different approach than mednafen, so the results might not align perfectly.. in other words, maybe youll find a game who's copy protection is still triggering. I can switch to mednafen's method if we find proof it's needed, but I think mine is more likely to be theoretically correct. as of r8756, the lag flag / counter is supported

Err, okay, I can't seem to beat the race in Harbour Speedway. No matter how many speedrings I go through or supercharging I do, I can't seem to beat the seagull in first place. I reload from my save state, but I can never come first. o_O Welp, goodbye 100%. Well, it was a nice run, at least. At least it didn't reset at the Sorceress. EDIT: Tried two more attempts, and I still can't beat that seagull in 1st place. I remember being able to do it when I played the game on a console long ago. Any advice?

Have you tried using the rockets you get from the red stars? As far as I can tell from playing the game myself, it's not possible to win the race without using those rockets on the birds between 5th and 2nd. I have no idea why it works like that, but it somehow prevents the booby in first place from moving too far ahead.

One of the longplayers from Longplays messaged me, and I'm just passing it on. -Date: January 06 2015- "I am just checking on psx development on bizhawk forum, as just wanted to add my 2 cents without the need to signup to the forum for my brief findings. Current topic seems to be regarding copy protections and requiring extra sbi files to get past. I just want to mention that Clone CD images by design should not have to worry about this as the sub channel data is all there. I have made disc images of my own PAL Final Fantasy XI, Formula 1 99 and these seem to run without issue. (No freezing while playing) I have downloaded a clone cd image of PAL CTR and again, seems to play without issue. completed first few races. The emu is currently working great. no desync, sharp 1:1 res and avi dumping works. Just PAL stuff looks a bit wrong and does not dump correctly atm (half height screens in pixel pro) and games that use audio tracks are offset by 2 seconds."

Finally I beat the race! Not looking forward to racing the yetis in Super Bonus Round, though. EDIT: Huh, the yetis weren't as bad as I thought. Would still be nearly impossible to do first time without rewinds, though. Game 110% complete at last.

spikestuff, thanks for the report. many people have cue+bin+sbi so we had to support that. its good to know CCDs with copy protection were already working. "games that use audio tracks are offset by 2 seconds" is not true. maybe CCDs ripped by this guy are offset by 2 seconds. send him or schlauchi with more detail.

Why is everyone obsessed with skipping BIOS everywhere? It's part of the boot-up process for most consoles, so it should technically be skipped LESS.

What hardware modifications would be required to skip PS1 BIOS under real life conditions?

The firmware ROM could be replaced with one that just boots the game without splashy graphics. When youve got that taken care of, then bizhawk wont need special support for it, you can just use that same firmware file

It's a great BIOS screen, I wouldn't want it to be skipped either. Even if the option is going to be added, I doubt it's a high priority or even a priority at all since it really makes no difference whether or not it's there.

DID YOU SEE THE GBA IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS? Or are you to fixated on one platform?
