Can't do that I'm afraid, all I can do is play back from my laptop, but that was definitely the original intent. :) Anyone reading this right after I'm writing this (rather than in the future), there are mere minutes left before the deadline. Best of luck!

Would it not be possible for someone to create a quick and dirty encode of the top 4 runs for you to show? We have lots of talented encoders on the site, and it's only a ~6 minute movie. (note, I am NOT one of these talented encoders :P I have no idea if this is actually unreasonable)
Even the best player is limited by the speed of his fingers, or his mind's ability to control them. But what happens when speed is not a factor, when theory becomes reality?

After the event, yes, but we have the length of Super Metroid to use TASJudy to go through the submissions (which at this moment contain a number of troll submissions), and any encode would have to happen after that, so while I wouldn't mind doing that it won't fit in the timeframe we have. Next time, I hope the 4-way race is live. :)

I *just* finished mine, looks like it's just in time, you can end input as early as possible while still reaching "The End", right?

You can, but unlike normal TASvideos rules, there's no time advantage to doing so. (All the runs will be timed at the point at which they reach the "The End" screen.)

And this only because of a miscommunication in the TASJudy script but at the same time I didn't specify it in the original text so we'll give the benefit of the doubt. Having said that, I suspect the winner will do it correctly, just a guess. We'll see if it becomes a problem, hopefully not.

After a long hiatus from TASing this was a great reason to return. Brilliant idea. Can't wait to watch the video & hopefully see how I compared.

The winning submission will be announced live following Super Metroid. Thank you to everyone who participated! In due course I'll establish a feedback thread so we can keep getting better at this but at this point I think this competition was a success and is worth repeating. Thanks all!

Looks like BizHawk managed to corrupt my file right before I was about to enter it. Is this something that just happens, or did I do something wrong?

Aw man... I never did a TAS, so I was pretty excited to participate in this competition and do a TAS for once, but looks like I didn't made it in time. =( I was pretty happy that I found some neat tricks, too... I got 5:25.563. Oh well. Here's the .bk2 - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17051260/streemerz-v02.tasproj.bk2

This exactly. (although for me, it was a bit more than a "long hiatus" haha... I don't even know the name I used to come here under) This was a ton of fun and reminded me how fun TASing could be, and I'd love to stick around for longer now again. (hopefully for good, haha)

Huh... I got an in-game time of 3:46:37, isn't that faster than the video on the right? Or are there inconsistancies between real-time and IGT?

There can be inconsistencies. I think the ingame time doesn't run during dialogs. You could sit on a dialog box for two minutes, and the movie would be two minutes longer while the in-game time would be unaffected.

Not all of the runs were judged, due to time constraints. Raiscan says that a proper leaderboard will be up within "the next few days".

Hey guys! I had some last minute issues with the autojudger regarding some of the fm2 files. For those that submitted FM2 and believe they ran faster, I do apologise. I will attempt to fix the judging script over the next few days and produce a proper league table on these forums. I do want to thank every one for submitting their runs though!

That was great fun! I've loved TASes for 10+ years now, so I decided to sack the SM64 race and participate. That was a ton of fun, and I'll definitely take part in another one if it's done in the fututre. The only thing I'll say is that the time limit was a bit ambiguous - I had to rush the last third of my run thinking there was barely any time left, but there was an hour to spare before the deadline actually hit. If I had known that then I would have been able to finish properly. I'd say either a slightly shorter game (15k frames or so rather than ~20k) or a slightly longer time limit would be better for the absolute novices, bear in mind there's the playing of the game initially + actually learning how to tas. https://youtu.be/BP4DSPrgwYw There's my encode for anyone who cares, thanks for the race!

#4783: adelikat, Aglar, Noxxa, Really_Tall & Samsara's NES Streemerz: Super Strength Emergency Squad Zeta "Streeeeemerz Mode" in 05:03.33 While full results aren't in yet, for sure my time was faster than the ones shown on the SGDQ stream by kaizoman and Dragonfangs. The problem appeared to be with the .fm2 autojudger being broken, which meant practically only BizHawk movies were counted at first.

It would be great if the final league table could contain the following columns: - Position - Author - Frame count - Real time - In-game time - Score Fun times by the way, can't wait for the final results! ^_^

I think the only hard one in there would be In-Game time, the rest we can script but that one isn't likely to be easy to retrieve. I agree overall, though! (Still very tired right now, will do a proper post-mortem tomorrow.)

How come? The game keeps track of ingame time, so it should be possible to retrieve it when address 002c turns 01 or whenever, shouldn't it?

If you can figure out a way to retrieve it without screenscraping go for it. :) You're welcome to try to locate the memory value. There is no sane reason I should be awake right now. I will now try not to be. I invite Raiscan to update this thread while I'm asleep however.

Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.
