  • Manipulates luck
  • Manipulates ball
  • Manipulates game

Comments

This is 985 frames faster than DwangoAC's run, and 36 frames faster than FractalFusion's run. Instead of going on an explaination about the run, I'll describe my input.
FrameInputDescription
Pre-startTurn left switch to truePuts the game into Newbie Mode, where the ball takes longer to move. This is required for the final game state I want to reach.
0-7NoneWait for the game to load. This takes 7 frames, and input isn't polled during these frames - with one exception: the very first frame of the game, where you can start it. I can't do that, hovewer, as it would not start the game in PoorLords mode.
8U+DGo up once in the menu. Up takes priority over Down.
9NoneRelease one frame to prepare for next input.
10U+DGo up once in the menu.
11NoneRelease one frame to prepare for next input.
12U+LThe most crucial frame: the luck manipulation one. A frame of luck manipulation is needed: by doing U+L instead of doing U+Button immediatly, you manipulate the starting position of the ball. This is important for the end result, as it will lead the ball where needed at the start, and lead to an automatic win.
13ButtonThe last frame of the game. The game is started in PoorLords mode, with walls. The ball takes the starting position of down-right, and we proceed to win the game with a perfect score with no further input.

This somehow reminds me of a TAS where it was enough to press start once to win the game. I don't remember exactly, Teletubbies or something like that. Well, at least it was a challenge which took about 75 minutes for this game (read submission + be lucky that you have the game + create the movie + upload the userfile) and the solution wasn't that obvious. But isn't it about two months too early for such a run?

Also, now this branch can be changed to only ''perfect score'' or ''best ending'', as my movie is faster then the fastest movie in the other mode, so ''PoorLords'' is not necessary.

There is a graphical glitch in the title screen of this game on Bizhawk. You can see that part of the 'p' in 'ping' is not outlined properly. I tested 2 other A2600 emulators and the 'p' is outlined correctly. Dragster for example also contains graphical glitches on Bizhawk and seems to suffer emulation errors as well. Is there a way to test if the behavior in this run, as well as TASeditor's, is correct and not the result of some error? I have no idea what exactly is going on, but something seems to be up with A2600 emulation. EDIT: I also noticed that the sound that plays when hitting B to move your paddle is also much lower pitch on other emulators (and youtube videos)

I think these emulation problems are just graphical. There are no glitches abused in the run, it's only luck manipulation, so it doesn't sound like an emulator error.

Using EASY COM mode now are we? Why bother with CPU at all? Might as well go straight to 2 player. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/28759645062563661 So-called "best ending" achieved in 7 frames. (Thanks BrunoVisnadi for the idea.)

Interesting. I considered this idea and actually got to this result too while 'brute forcing', but I thought 'best ending' would be a weird goal in a 2 players movie, as there isn't an 'enemy' and it doesn't really mater who wins. So I don't know if this movie fits 'best ending', or if this branch is more suitable to a movie that faces AI.
