What's up guys?
After Mortal Kombat or Street Fighters run that time I opt for a SNK game most knnown as Samurai Shodown or Samurai Spirits (your name preference) bring some combos, glitches and some others missed in the last run.
To replay run, first you will need to change region to Japan on dip switches, after setted close the game and emulator, re-open and so playback the fbm.
  • Observation: If this run don't sync to you, please check your bios (neogeo.zip), search for a file called "sfix.sfx" if you don't have this file, just download the last bios which is 1.5mb and it will syncs normally.
>Warning: I'd like to suggest who want to watch the run by my Youtube Encode, because I got some random desyncs in Hanzo x Galford fight when Galford cut Hanzo to get the timeover glitch I don't know if will happen with someone, so if you're having this problem I suggest to watch the encode, anyway the run generally don't give any desyncs itself if you continue watching the run but if Hanzo isn't was cut so the run will continue normally, but the right time will be Galford cutting Hanzo in the right timeover frame to get the glitch.

Game objectives

  • Emulator: fba-rr v0.02
  • Game: Samurai Shodown IV: Amakusa's Revenge
  • Plays on Hardest Difficult
  • Abuses programming errors
  • 1 and 2 players
  • Abuses combo system: juggles, infinites, 99hits, 100%.
  • Upper Grade, Slash and Bust styles
  • Uses the best characters to get more entertainment.

Game introduction

Samurai Supirittsu Amakusa Kōrin is the fourth in SNK's flagship Samurai Shodown series of fighting games. Chronologically, is the second and final chapter of an interlude between Samurai Shodown and Samurai Shodown II, being Samurai Shodown III the first chapter.

Game Choice & Run

First off, I choose this game because I'd like to bring it my list of games that I intend to TASing, SSIV has taken a part of it. When I watched the current playaround I got interested, and I decided to make one and I could show awkward stuff of other characters that was missed. Among them are Haohmaru and Nakoruru that I looked for bring their best things, moreover I drove the run towards some more than a simple playthrough by adding 2 players and presenting variety and stunning combos, glitches and bugs.

Glitches & Tricks

  • Basara Suicide?
Basara is literally a bad character in combo terms, my choice in this fight was because Basara has this bug and Nakoruru which have cool combos, to do it you just need to leave him on the ground followed by a sword attack, it need to be in the right frame or it won't works, the effect: Basara make a kind of suicide and the screen freeze for sometime.
  • The Brothers bond.
Unfortunately for any reason Kazuki can't kill your brother with your fireball. Generally when Kazuki do your no contest (fatality) command the torso from the enemy will be ripped out, with Sorgetsu it didn't occur, he just take the fireball and faint.
  • Galford wrong side, Hanzo Timeover
What did you expected from a ninja fight? disappearances? shurikens? If you hope for it so enjoy this fight. Galford can pass through the out side to explore the obscure screen, while Hanzo practice their ninja arts fading away from the screen, a easy glitch just need to do a Replica Attack with B+D and doing a tech roll with Galford, to disappear with Hanzo just do Ninpo Utsusemi after the tech roll. The timeover have no secrets, just take the right distance and do a impact attack with C to cut the enemy with a automatically fatality.
  • Stuck in screen
Remember Basara Suicide? It seems similar but has a invencible effect from punches, kicks or any attack from the enemy you just need to press a+b in the exactly frame of swords conflict Shizumaru will go back to her planet. Also the time basically freeze when you do Honorable Deaths.
  • Ukyo techniques
As I told above, I choose Ukyo because he has better techniques and combos. Ukyo can't be a bad choice, he has some interesting tricks which can be really useful in TAS or in a casual match, most of them are based on back throws and cancel moves. On corners do back throws followed by forward, forward, down, forward+C it will allow you to do Hiken Tsubame Gaeshi without need to be in air. On same corner do medium punch (b) followed by a+b the punch will be cancelled into the dodge, you will be able to do more 2 hits with this technique. Also according to combovideos and some tests, Ukyo is probably the only character which can get 99 hits.

Thanks to:

  • SDR for follow me all time, watching fight by fight, helping with my encode and upload.
  • Jiey sshodown for your channel support on bugs/glitches discovery.
  • mamuuut for your run
Well is it, I hope you enjoy my work.

Nach: Some aspects of what this run was doing appeared suspicious. After research, it appears this run is in fact legit.
Feedback for this run wasn't great, but it was acceptable. Since this game already has a published run, and this run appears to be better, I'm accepting this as an improvement.
feos: Oh man, I finally pub it.

Dark Noob, what happens if you just TAS with that entire old bios where you took 1 file from?

I made my decision already ~3 weeks back, but I can't enter it without getting this run to sync. Since feos got it to sync this removes that hurdle. However, without knowing what to make of this BIOS situation, I can't process it yet. We do not accept runs which use invalid BIOS and game combos. The more you can do to explain why the BIOS used is as it is will help.

I didn't understand, from beginning to end I TAS'ed with the old bios and it just sync with that.

I talked about this situation with feos to get sync the run, I already added it 1 week ago on my submission, to get the run sync, you will need to take the old bios archive called 000-lo.lo you can found this archive on internet by searching for "000-lo.lo download" or by searching for a old neogeobios which has the 000-lo.lo archive, at first you need to take the last neogeobios from any internet website, after downloaded extract the neogeo.zip and delete the same neogeo.zip archive, now just select the extract archives plus the 000-lo.lo and compress into a new neogeo.zip bios. For last, just move this neogeo bios to the rom folder. Why this situation? It occur because the fba v0.2 works with new and old bios archives, in other words some roms will need to use 64k archive 000-lo.lo a old bio, and some games will just use 128k bios, so it isn't a invalid bios it just a older bios which the older emulators (fba v0.2) needs to work for some games and sync. Also I will send a PM to you with the same archives sent to feos to get sync.

IIRC, with original BIOS archives that exist, it doesn't look right even if it syncs (broken text menus). So you used that 000-lo file from an old bios version and put it into a new bios version, right? Because the resulting bios doesn't match any of the original ones, and hence my question: what if you use the entire old original bios.

Oh now I understand your point, I didn't TASed with the entire old bios because there are no changes between the old entire bios to the new one, I suggested to do all this process because I don't know how hard is to find a old neo geo bios, for example I just found a old bio on an brazilian blog and it works, I have 3 bios the new (1.6mb), and two olds (430kbps and 240kbps), the 240 kbps bios didn't worked and it has the 000-lo file, now the 430 kbps bios works with the game, so to don't lost time searching for this 430 kb bios my suggest is download the last bios which are more easy to found and just add the 000-lo file to get work.

What version of FBA were you using? For me it seems to sync with whatever bios on v002.

The emulator itself reports incorrect bios if you load it with MAME or FBA bios, and menu text is absent. So the one used isn't a bios frankenstein, but a fixed one, since everything looks correct with it.

If someone try to run by another fba version it don't sync, fba v0.2 probably is the only emulator which uses old bios. Nach if you didn't understand how to sync the fbm send a pm for me and I can help you, I already sent the old bios to you sync the run, also as feos said it isn't a invalid or a frankenstein bios it just a old neogeobios, if you search for these bios on google you will saw a lot of old and new bios of SNK for mame, kawaks, FBA. Probably it work better to you and feos because their PCs are better than mine (my PC have had desyncs trouble while dump).

I have an honest question: Why did you use FBA-RR 0.0.2 in the first place when a newer version is available (where you don't have to use an older version of the Neo-Geo BIOS)?

Easy, by two reasons, first because I like playing in simple emulators, second because the successor versions don't have slow-motion enabled to TASing. You've totally right to criticize me, but I just play with frame advance to sets the difficult, rounds, cutscenes at start , winning pose , and in 2 play fights which need a total frame advanced control, most of my CPU fights boil down on slow-motion (20% speed), yeah have some fights which I need to use frame-advanced to shows off a new or hardest combo, it's my style I don't like to play all my fights by frame-advancing doesn't mean that I don't know how to play or uses frame-advance of right way, it just my style because for me most of known combos found by me was more easy to do by slow-motion, as have some which needs a totally frame advance control to get as example: the 99 ukyo hits, ukyo techniques too and some others.

Why mz decided to disable slow-mo (and speed-up, for that matter) in later versions of FBA-RR, I have no idea. Thanks for your answer, anyway. EDIT: Except that FBA-RR 0.0.3.03 also supports slow-mo/speed-up, but uses the new(?) Neo-Geo BIOS.

I don't remember now, but I think fba 0.3 uses old bios too, also fba 0.3 have a scrap emulation, every time I close the emulator he gives a debug emulation error causing a lot of desyncs I don't suggest anyone to TAS any game on fba 0.3.

For what it's worth, FBA-RR 0.0.3.03 doesn't yell at me for using the 128 KB 000-lo.lo (I only tested Metal Slug X and SamSho4), so it could be the newer Neo-Geo BIOS. ..unless I completely mix things up.

So everything's still as broken as it uses to be with fba, and I don't see an easier way out than what was used.

Guys I was checking my bios, and I saw Samurai Shodown 4 works with both 64 and 128k 000-lo files, I need to re-edit my submission again then. Probably feos problem was the sfix.sfx file didn't found on the bios, and maybe it could be the Nach's problem too. So the problem isn't the bios, it just "miss" files from your bios, I suggest to everyone which will playback this run to download a 1.4 or 1.5mb neogeo.zip and it will syncs without no problem.

Yes, I mentioned a few times it syncs with any bios, I just get missing menu text with the regular ones. Which (again) means the run is legit, it just has to use a fixed bios (that it uses already).

So your problem was the missed sfix.sfx file, returning to your image when you start the rom the message error appears, after that the rom starts and the text menus was broken? If this happened certainly is a "missed" file from the neogeo or game, occur the same with me while I try to run kof 2001 which start the rom with incorrect CRC and a missed file, the game starts with text menus and emulation totally brokens.

Thanks for decision Nach. I think the feedback wasn't the problem, probably was the negative votes didn't manifested. It could be better in some parts as more Ukyo long combos, the game don't have a lot of glitches giving more barriers between me and the game, still I'm happy with the result. Well, I guess this run are better than the Kazuki's one and entertained most of the viewers and it was my point here, thanks for the accept.

i' d like to know why you keep compare runs which are different in a lot of aspect Why a run wich contains reset, only one round vs ??!!, different charcaters, is compare to a run with only one character and different goal? i don't see well what is the utility of go one youtube list bugs, and apply them without any coherence just by reseting the machine after one is done and so on and so on i prefer to see a combo/bug movie instead compare what is comparable and i really don't got the one round fight vs cpu, that's not very fair, unless you aim for spikestuff style run (Instant kill) * it's like the sf2 run, it just a compilation of known glitch , reset on reset
ACE is my raison d'etre!

AV desync can only be found after it's published. Redoing.

So mamuuuut you still have something to say? Sorry if I'm blind but I saw "playaround" tag at your submission (it's not my fault), I know your mainly goal on your old run was a playthrough, but if have playaround tag someone could compare the runs or you're against with it? It's really funny, it seems like you didn't understood what a playaround means, anyone can make playarounds by taking knowledge from some videos, BUT while playarounding you need to show the best glitches/bugs taken by your search, like Super Mario World which contains a mountain glitches, and mainly or just the best will be put into practice. Here we have the same situation, you have a lot of glitches and will look for what will be added into your TAS, repeating: there's no reason to add all glitches from the game, just the best one. So, if still it isn't clear what a playaround is, go to youtube and keep watching your combo/bug movies like you said, at long last why I make playarounds if have combo/glitch videos? could I be less idiot? A playaround means you need to show the best from the selected characters by glitching, combo abusing. Reset option are optional at some games, me and SDR opt for resets because we want add team variation, example: If you have Gouki as fighter against Ken joined into a coin we will have a winner, if you want to add a new battle again using the second player after joined, Gouki automatically will be the opponent against the new character, so you will have a fight between: Gouki x A new fighter. With resets you don't need to uses Gouki so you can has new single/team match between random x random instead of Gouki x random. *Also it was what you should do in your last playaround, but you opt for add 30, 40% from what the game can show and call it a playaround adding the same characters every two player fight making repetitive and boring matches instead of show more fights with more character variations and of course, opening doors for more glitches which SHOULD was at the run. You mentioned sf2 as example, so it's my right mention one of your movies as kof97: a compilation of basic glitch/bug which was accept by the fact nobody doesn't know about the game potential, I was one who are at this kof crossroad and I know what those games can show, for most of voters the run was good, for me who understand it's balanced and needs a lot of more because playarounds consists on show all about the game, regardless if have known or unknown glitches, also there's a rule against old glitches/bugs? It will disqualify the quality from the run if use old glitches? The essence is a varied run with old and new glitching/combo abusing. So I still have no coherence or the problem could be you which didn't understand what playaround preserve? For last, my run didn't showed anything against the rules, seems like would you like to saw a two round fights against CPU because your run uses that method, but it was not you whose said is not fair compare both runs with different goals? I use one round because Ukyo is a agressive character compared to Kazuki, he don't need a lot of charge to do a 100% damage combo or infinite, he's the best character from the game for a lot of viewers, so it could be convenient apply my method and because the time run would be too long with two rounds, at least f2 option are at emulator to be use from the best way do you want. *Also if you want a playthrough from me, enter in my channel I have a two round playthrough with Haohmaru, ur are totally welcome. I don't know if you have something against me or why are you so furious, but my last comment wasn't to reply you and just to show different values between both runs with more glitches, combos, variations. Also again I didn't receive any negative feedbacks, xnk was the only who put some points at my run, the rest are just no votes without no opinions/expressions. If I understood wrong so disregard this.
