Pick some of your favorite NES games and try to find the least number of frames required to cause a game over! Which game is fastest? Which game is slowest? What's the average amount of time it takes to kill yourself in a NES game? Posting movies isn't necessary, just pick some game you have experience with and we'll trust you. Dying is very fast in SMB, but to cause a Game Over... Probably a non forgiving game is best suited for that kind of contest. Or a game that has a voluntary suicide key, such as Lolo... But Lolo is very slow to boot up. Lolo very likely loses to Tetris. Some shooter, such as Star Force, might be a good candidate too.

For fastest game, I would have to nominate Spelunker, which you can cause the Game Over screen to appear on frame 566! For slowest game, I'd have to nominate Marble Madness, which you have to wait for frame 4687 to have a game over because of the timer.

Tetris doesn't really give a "game over" (although the game is clearly over. Dr Mario does, and I think it's even faster than tetris, since the intro screen can be skipped faster. Abadox is also very fast, you do have 3 lives, but you can get killed very fast, and the menu screens and death screens are fast aswell... although dr mario is faster.

I almost beat Balloon Fight with Kid Icarus. I can kill Pit at frame 511, but the "I'm Finished!" screen doesn't appear until frame 607.

When I first spotted this topic, I thought you were proposing something very different: movies which feature innovative, improbable or amusing deaths. I like your idea too, but I think a "death competition" would be pretty cool!

the slowest game would have to be dragon warrior since you have to talk to the king, get the treasure chest, open the door and walk outside, and even then it will take a while to be killed by a slime for fastest death - zanac might be a good candidate
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Glitches in MM1 that almost work but then result in death come to mind. Umihara Kawase would be a good candidate for amusing and improbably deaths, too. Sounds also like a lot of deaths I encountered making a run of Gimmick!, for example, I'd be on a star that almost took a nice shortcut, then bounced slightly wrong, went at a crazy angle and suddenly vanished, causing me to almost land on a little platform but then get knocked away in mid-air by an enemy right into a pit.

I like feitclub's idea. TheAxeMan had a great blooper reel where he killed off his character in A Boy and His Blob. Lots of amusing deaths are possible. I still like the Dead Mario trick in SM64.

Huh? Did I miss something? When did this happen? And how do you die in Toad's house?

Damn it, I don't have access to any emulators/ROMs right now. Now I've got a reason to get to some though; I must see this.
