Comments

This game is a game made by Hudson Soft and lisenced by Nintendo It was made for the famicon disk system which plays games using double-sided floppy disks This game is really just Super Mario Bros. with different sprites and SMB2J physics. World 8-4 is just the 8-4 in SMB2J This game is pretty well known about and not that much

It's Everyday Bro

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: I'm going to reject this game from the Vault. While it is technically an official release, it's still a hack of Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) with level design elements merely copied from Super Mario Bros. There is no unique game content in this game that is not already covered by the runs of the far more popular games it is based on, with its only unique content being graphical changes and sprite edits. This movie also shows it, with all but one level of the TAS being functionally identical to the Super Mario Bros. TAS, and the last one being functionally identical to the Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) TAS - with only very minor changes, such as SMB2j fireworks mechanics meaning it doesn't need to be avoided in 8-3, and no Fire Flower being used in 8-4. But these are all very minor differences, and it overall highlights the lack of unique content from the game.
I think this game can get better audience feedback and be potentially publishable to a higher tier if a different category is done (like using Luigi, warpless, showing off worlds A-D), but this movie really just highlights the lack of changes compared to its base games. As such, I'm rejecting this movie due to poor audience reception for an unvaultable game.

Nach: I'd like to add a few clarifying points just in case they come up later.
Noxxa pointed out that if parts of the game are shown off that are not seen elsewhere it can be acceptable. However, if the game also has some noticeable differences that were present, it could also be accepted. Meaning if there was a brand new level, or a level had some significant changes to it that required it to be played differently, or the enemies differed or had different placement or the powerups did, and this changed how the TAS would need to play the game, then it could be acceptable. Official games which are similar are acceptable, identical content is not. It appears this just copies and pastes together levels from two other games, uses the sprites from one of those for all of it, but has no functional uniqueness to speak of. If unique content is demonstrated, either from a significant noticeable in-game change affecting the actual game-play, or unique modes or levels are demonstrated, then in either case it can be accepted. It seems this game does not qualify, but other similar games such as Super Mario Advance or Metal Slug X do offer enough changes from the game they are based on.

Surprisingly, it turns out the game is licensed by Nintendo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros.#All_Night_Nippon_Super_Mario_Bros. https://www.mariowiki.com/All_Night_Nippon_Super_Mario_Bros. I can't vote right now... I'm still shocked.
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

What are those goomba sprites even supposed to be? it feels like a tech demo where developers messed around and put their faces in the game. not sure if this is different enough for publication, it pretty much is the exact same as SMB but with one different level and sprite changes.

Slower than this submission: #4394: kusoman's NES All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. in 04:59.62 Which was rejected for being slow and suboptimal. Edit: And incomplete... Whoops. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why do you do a TAS of a romhack that is exactly the same as the original game except for the last stage?

My point is why did he do a TAS of a game that is exactly the same except one stage? If it really has more different levels I would have liked to see a ''Warpless'' category, but he didn't.

A run of this game using Luigi is probably more meaningful since you can't play as Luigi in original SMB.

I'd agree with that, Fortranm. I'd like to see SMB2J Luigi physics applied to a warpless SMB1 run.

I'm not really sure what to make of this game choice, so I'm just gonna refrain from voting, and let you guys figure it out.

What this run have, that others Mario's run haven't ? Just new sprites! Congratulate your effort to play at some moment on the music, but it's a serious big NO vote!

@SpikeStuff that faster submission doesn't even beat the game lol, I put it in fcuex and it doesn't even move in 8-4. Submission said it was impossible

Okay, I'll admit that small blunder, cause I actually forgot about what that submission did. However. Because you like to spell my username wrong nobodycallsmetubby. (Really like that you somehow forgot your account. Password or something?) I'm going to ask a very simple question. Cause in that submission that I slightly hinted towards what I did below the now deleted video. How much input of HappyLee's SMB TASes did you use tubby? Cause I'm getting a real high number in terms of matched input right here with only slight modifications. There is a good 55% that your input is your own, but I only checked SMB "warps", as I know 8-4 you could just use his Lost Levels input instead. Now due to margin of errors with desync and the like the number 55% would most likely drop down to exactly half. For a fact. You can still do your own input throughout SMB without using HappyLee's input and still get the same time without using his input and have a different result. Heck, even HappyLee didn't use his own input for an improvement did things at a different spot and the end of the level still matched up with his previous run.

Someone do a Warpless run of this game. There are a few levels from Lost Levels on here, similar to how Vs. Super Mario Bros. has a few levels from Lost Levels. Just about all the bonus worlds are similar to that on Lost Levels just a bit easier. The only big difference is that there are no poison mushrooms.
