I'm Trying to make a TAS do this game...somebody can help me with WIPs ? my WIP... http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1818/Dark%20Fulgore%20-%20Mickey%20to%20Donald%20-%20Magical%20Adventure%203%20%28J%29.smv One Player Controls two players...my first time with this...

Not bad, but I noticed that in the second section, you didn't jump on the pump for the boat as fast as possible. Is there some reason for that? Does the game not allow the boat to go faster? I've never played the game (most people probably haven't), so I'd like to know.

Ok. I was just wondering. I've never played the game before, so I didn't know.

Wow....Major resurrection... Anyways. WIP I am right now ahead of Dark Fulgore by 285 frames. I thought I should do a more serious attempt & fix the mistakes he said about in his run Here.

There was a GBA port of this game that had a worldwide release but this version was only in Japan. It is the same case as Rockman & Forte.

In case anyone is wondering, I used the ROM "Mickey to Donald - Magical Adventure 3 (J)". I suspect this movie will be about 30-32 minutes. Anything you might want to say before I continue? New WIP. I now beat the Turkey Knight. I am now 1185 frames faster than Dark Fulgore's run because of the deaths.

World 1 with some World 2. There aren't that many improvements after World 1, so I wont post here again :P. You can PM me if you want to know the process of the movie but I just wanted to keep my WIP here as storage just in case a computer fails me again.

This game should be run in Easy mode 1p. Hard mode doesn't change behavior, just adds more enemies and HP to the bosses, without changing patterns. 2p mode does not allow for double hits in the same frame. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/44545368386517229 Wip Before anybody asks, i did not lose or gain time doing that little clip upwards in the grey block,it evens with a normal jump.Running down slopes, removing obstacles and throwing blocks is the way to go in this game.I appreciate your attention.I also paid attention to never get stuck when grabbing the blocks, which is common if your face isn't next to block's height early. I am agreed about Easy mode choice, but 1P is not justified at all. In some cases Mickey and Donald can interact with each other. For example D can transform into barrel, so M can use this barrel as platform. Or use Genie's hand. Some other team work is also possible. I am absolutely sure that 2P-tactic would be faster in some places. For serious TAS attempt 2P is the only right choice. Since you just started, I recommend restart and switching to 2P. Of course you can continue recording 1P, but it would be lame and not so interesing as 2P.
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

Yeah, I thought about that but all these height gains seems useless considering the fact Mickey can punch with the knight armor to bump higher into walls/objects and he'll have no way of bringing donald with him.I'll finish one stage with Mickey eventually, because i have to test a lot of things still in the water sections, and you tell me what you think of it.I won't go forward without testing the 2 options though. EDIT: i'm doing the movie with 2 controllers available so in case different sections require 1p and 2p,it would be feasible to go back and insert the second player in a specific stage.

I found some old TAS by Dark Fulgore of this game on youtube: Link to video Technical quality of this tas is a bit lower than modern tasvideos standards, but perhaps it still can be useful for comparison purpose. Well, not too much teamwork tricks in this game, but for sure 2P interaction can save some frames here and there.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47004940326178074 This is my test of the first stage solo mickey and yeah i'll probably save a lot of time with 2 players in the boss battle. I'll test if i can improve the stage too or just the boss. Link to video darkfulgore area1=035 1:08(33) area2= 1:12 1:46(34) area3=2:42 3:15(33) grassini solo mickey area1= 029 1:02(33) area2=1:06 1:37(31) area3=2:07 2:40(33) jsmox area1=038 1:10(32)area2=1:14 1:46(32) area3=2:33 3:12(39) these are not frame perfect comparisons, i'd appreciate help with that.

I found a lot of little boosts while doing my 2player test, but something really sad is noticeable, i lost all my timesaves to the first suit cutscene lol each jump into a slope gives me some extra pixels, also i maximized slopes as much as possible with the 2 players, i managed to get a lot of time in all areas, despite the first boss being slower but the cutscene for the suits made me lose it all and only the final boss will tell if this first stage is faster or slower with 2players http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47122365667752519 EDIT: i finished stage1 with 2players and it's still slower, even though the boss fight is faster and hitting as early as possible. The second stage suit cutscene isn't slower, i believe, because both characters dress up at the same time. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47142417139737002 Link to video

Why not inserting Donald right after Mickey puts on the armor to save frames with both characters from there to the boss? Edit to answer: Oh I see. That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

There's no way Donald can propel Mickey forward, and i don't have to jump any higher than the normally necessary at any point(not to mention the ugly camera glitch that i had to use to get Donald up the third area). It seemed simpler to just put him where he's needed and less chances for lag.The time spent in each area is decided by the character that stays at the right of the screen after all, so as long as that guy doesn't lose time, it's all right. The real benefit of Donald would be in first area because he can clean the path simultaneously so Mickey can optimize his movement more. Forest donald doesn't get deccelerated in up slopes, i tested with medieval suits and mickey is affected the same while donald has this special property. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47212530449550688 http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/MagicalQuest3-StarringMickey&Donald(J)-Stage2-FungusForest-Area1.png

so i completed the first area but a doubt comes,by killing Donald and switching suits inside the balloon, i got a faster moth boss battle. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47424100496465159 The problem is I have to switch back to forest suit and i can't kill Donald as the medieval suit can't go below water level. My options are TASing with Donald in the medieval suit, deciding between switching later or sooner, or skipping the switch altogether. Now it just came to my mind i could try doing the same strat with Mickey but he won't be able to float which means he'll need constant water hops. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/47472631183656101 stage2 is done, and i decided not to test medieval suit in the rest of the stage after i saw the stage layout,it's completely out of hand to play with medieval suits, there are boosts everywhere with forest suit, while medieval would have extra height for a shortcut, and everything else would be the extra height to attempt to compensate the lack of boosted jumps http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/MagicalQuest3-StarringMickey&Donald(J)-Stage2-FungusForest-Area3.png Link to video Info i forgot: a maximum charged attack from Med is worth double damage in the forest bosses, i don't know how many more opportunities i'll have for suicide switches and if there'll be lives along the way to collect but i'll try to use the feature as much as possible.
