You're welcome! And I personally like the current name. I hadn't heard of the show, but it just sounds funny (and I think the pun on "absolutely" is obvious enough). Also, you were right about the page needing to be in the Movies section like Gruefood Delight. GD is set up this way to make it a subpage of Movies.html (where the main link for it is). I went ahead and moved the page to http://tasvideos.org/Movies/ObsoletelyFabulous.html.

Keep the nominations coming people! It's surprising what gems you can find if you look through obsolete movies. For example, I'm thinking of adding [1437] DS Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin by arukAdo & gocha in 10:14.85 to this list - it's probably the only TAS where switching between characters constantly is used for basic movement.

How about [567] SNES EarthBound "in bounds" by Halamantariel & Nitrodon in 3:26:09.18? It shows more of the game than any other published run, obsolete or not. Also check out the movies in Alden's Golden Oldies page.

Hmm. It seems that there are multiple reasons a run could get in here. The runs featured in Golden Oldies seem to be mostly interesting from a historical standpoint. While, as Alden points out, Morimoto's SMB3 is a phenomenal achievement given the neolithic tools he was working with, when you take off the nostlagia spectacles it is just a slightly sloppy version of the current run, so why would you watch it if you've already seen that one? It may be worth splitting this into categories, like Gruefood Delight, although it would be tricky because, for example, Chrono Trigger and Pokemon: MLP Version are both very different from their successors, and also huge historical milestones, so where do you put them? I also don't want this page to become "my page", if you know what I mean, so feel free to add your own stuff! I just got it started because nobody else was and it was too good an idea to drop.

My thoughts for categories are: 'Higher entertainment rating than movie that obsoleted it' 'Shows off an interesting glitch, trick or route that got obsoleted out' 'Has an interesting entertainment/playaround that did not come back in the obsoletion' 'Has historical merit/is a historical milestone/is a first for tasvideos' re the problem of a movie belonging in two categories, you could have categories ordered by priority - if it satisfies two categories it goes in the higher priority category.

Per this post I'd like to nominate 2504M (Pokemon Gold) for Obsoletely Fabulous under the "Obsolete Tricks" tab. Quoting from the original post:
Zowayix wrote:
It easily fits the "show neat tricks and glitches that are not present in their current equivalents" criterion, using a very visually entertaining map distortion glitch to skip past barriers to the end, without the arbitrary code execution glitch warp that the current publication uses. There is also a sort of precedence, as there is another Pokemon game on that page that completes the game with a glitch not used in its own current publication.
--- As an additional note, I'd like to also nominate 2457M to either supplement or replace the 2434M movie currently there, which is by the same author and which it obsoleted. 2434M uses item underflow to explode the bag and swap items/memory to beat the game, which on its surface is not dissimilar to the currently published save corruption run which beats the game in 1 minute also by exploding the inventory and item swapping. On the other hand, 2457M uses a completely different glitch never used in any other Gen I submission, which is to use the "Cooltrainer" move in battle and take advantage of its glitched effect to execute some very precisely arranged arbitrary code (without ever needing to jump to controller input). MrWint, author of both movies, covers exactly this himself:

After finishing my first any% TAS on Pokémon Blue (here), I read some comments about how this run is all the same as the save corruption run (here), just with 35 minutes of extra padding to get to that point. In a way they were right, all recent first generation Pokémon TASes are corrupting the inventory to use it as a hex editor, shifting the right bytes to the right places and therefore tricking the game into playing the final cutscene. This makes them look all the same in the end: you scroll through a glitched inventory screen that is filled with hilarious items (e.g. "GARY x97") and swap them around. It got me thinking whether there may be an alternative way to manipulate the bytes. Sure enough, I found one, which isn't that surprising, considering the multitude of game-breaking glitches that this particular game features. More surprising is the fact that it is actually a lot faster to do than the inventory glitching. I recommend to watch the movie before reading the technical details below. The movie contains almost none of the usual graphical glitchiness and obvious game breaking that the previous movies had, which lets the end seem rather sudden and magical.

Thank you for your suggestions; I added them in. It was tough to decide whether or not to keep 2434M, but in the end, I left it there and removed the link to 2457M in its description. If someone has a good reason for removing it, it can always be done in the future.

How about http://tasvideos.org/1060M.html , which uses a more entertaining route than what obsoleted it?

It think [2558] SNES Super Metroid "GT code, game end glitch" by amaurea, Cpadolf, total in 14:52.88 deserves a spot here. It's probably the last Super Metroid TAS that used such unique tricks, and its route diverges pretty quickly from any run ever published here.

I didn't do it because it requires wording, which I haven't ever been good at when it comes to movie descriptions.

Ok, here we go - [2551] SNES Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom "game end glitch" by pirohiko in 01:02.85 should be added under 'Obsolete Tricks', since it was obsoleted by an SRAM glitch run that now has 0 gameplay left.

I would like it if SprintGod's first S3&K run was acknowledged somehow; it's the closest we have to a truly glitchless S3&K run. His second movie abused vertical screen-wrap glitches, and we all know what nitsuja did when he started doing S3&K.

[3430] A2600 Dragster by Omnigamer in 00:08.49 I mean... at this point it's a historic movie, considering all the crazy events that happened after it. I think it should be in the historical section of the page. If there was a Vault movie award last year, it would easily belong to this one.
