Tricks

Rick+Stone Clipping

Kirby (Gooey) releases Rick on same frame of changing back from stone form: Kirby appears at a considerably higher than assumed. If this glitch is done just below the ceiling, it is possible to go through the ceiling.

Ignoring Auto-scrolling

Gooey will not come back if he goes outside the screen while taking certain moves. In the area with auto-scrolling from the middle, auto-scrolling will be ignored by only letting gooey who is taking action go ahead of it.

Speed Cycling

The speed at Kirby’s running constantly increases to the maximum speed (512). There is a frame that exceeds maximum speed just before reaching.Release → (when Kirby facing right) at this frame and press → again when falls below the maximum speed. Repeating this in the midair, the speed value will loop through: 512, 496, 536, 520, 504, 544, 528… Averaging this in 520, faster than normal running.

RNG Manipulation

In this game, the RNG is manipulated by the small star sprite that cause when Kirby collides with the terrain, the flow of inhaled air, and various other factors. RNG is used for:
  • Goal Game – the order of items and waiting time before jumping
  • Sub-game – answer and waiting time
  • Boss & Mid-boss moving

Thanks

Memory: Judging
Memory: Optimization seems excellent, taking advantage of numerous techniques and at no point feels sloppy.
So the entertainment is absolutely superb. The TAS uses numerous techniques and forms of mobility to move throughout levels. From speed cycling to getting pushed ahead a little further by your partner to even zips. The goal works well, it provides unique goals to complete in each level but doesn't include the extra tedium that would come with a true 100% run. The audience absolutely loves it as well.
The only thing I had questions about was the choice to end input early. I felt the setup was interesting but it went on a little longer than I would like. Other people loved it though so I won't hold this choice against it.
Kirby is cute~
Accepting to Moons.

Finally you appeared with this run WaddleDX! Watched your work a month ago and these efforts, glitches, optimizations between levels (considering the speed cycling mechanic), were superb! I waited for this run for years. Easy yes vote. Also, do you have plans for another kirby game someday?

Is your goal "best ending" can be considered as 100% or is there other secondary goal that can be achived in the game? (means : is your "best ending" category is the same as "best ending" on speedrun.com) Anyway, I likethis TAS so yes vote.

I was doubting if this TAS was going to be submitted or not, but here we are. Fantastic job WaddleDX! I'm so glad that the SNES Kirby games are finally alive again. This would've been an easy yes vote if it weren't my lack of activity on this site.

The meaning of this "best ending" is the same as that of speedrun.com. It's treated as 97 percent in this game.

The Secret Options (actually only three are necessary to the remaining 3%): M- Mini-Games. All five of the mini-games that occur in the game, one after another. Beat this perfectly to get the jumping game. J- Jumping Game. The game that you play after every level. Don't land on the Ticks, as you will lose the game if you do. B- Boss Butch. Fight every boss in the game in consecutive order without powers or Gooey. "Retired from Gamefaqs"

I just have one thing to say... Yes vote. Seriously though, this is a remarkable piece of work. Star material right here. Top contender for TAS of 2018. Thank you for making and submitting this.

Loved every minute of this, yes vote. Side note, is it possible we could take the Japanese commentary text from that video and translate them to English for commentary publication? I’d love to see that.

This is quite impressive! But I do have to ask, why do you reset so much? It's not explained in the submission and it is kind of distracting.

Not an author but it allows skipping certain cutscenes. Doesn't seem worth it for all of them because it resets powers and animal buddies.

My memory is a bit fuzzy about this game, but wouldn't it make sense to append the mini-games for 100% at the end of this movie now? I feel it will get quickly obsoleted otherwise.

SmashManiac: Adding the minigames wouldn't be as simple as appending extra input post-credits. WaddleDX defeated the final boss by ending input early, and letting the computer ally finish it off. If the movie were to have extra content added, WaddleDX would need to redo the last part of the fight to manually beat it in as fast real-time as possible. To be honest, I don't think a 100% video should even bother being accepted here. The minigames were already seen during the 97% route, and the boss rush is slow & boring with no powers or helpers. 100% would simply be padding. By the way, WaddleDX, I really enjoyed watching the movie. You were very entertaining whenever you could fit hijinks in.

For the boss rush, I believe you can't use abilities, so there would be some difference, even if that's probably not the most interesting thing ever. However, my main concern is the Vault tier. If my interpretation is correct, 97% is not eligible for Vault, but anyone adding the extra 3% immediately causes the padded movie to be eligible for Vault, which has to obsolete this movie due to being too similar in content. I thought it was worth considering this problem now.

My one and only concern about this movie at this point is about the choice to end input early. The setup for ending input early is definitely interesting. Unfortunately without input, it relies on Gooey to slowly fire shots at the final boss, not all of which even hit. This goes on for about 50 seconds. A movie with extended input that aims to kill the true final boss as fast as possible might be more entertaining. EDIT: Anyone else have any thoughts on this? EDIT 2: To clarify: Do you people think that extending input such that the final boss would be killed sooner would improve entertainment like it did with Magician Lord? I'd recommend reading the movie description and submission text with relevant judgment notes for context.

Even though I'm not a fan of Kirby games, I've enjoyed watching this movie and I can tell that there is an insane work for optimization. Yes vote! As for ending the input early, I have to say that I personally appreciated it, since it needed a clever setup in order to abuse the game mechanics. I think that's easy to tell what's going on, and it added an extra touch of swag to the movie.

At long last, someone submitted a movie of this game. Yes vote. I really enjoyed the way the author ended inputs early.
