I don't think SGNG (whoa i made it up:p) needs any introduction.
Back in the day I never actually finished SGNG I only got to the point where the princess tells you to get the oh so powerfull goddess' bracelet and summons you back to the start. So I dug up some walkthroughs wanting to know where can I find it. And as the walkthrough kept talking about "the 5th chest you open has the ring", THE RING?, and when I had opened my 3rd chest. I had some weird fairy-like thing coming out, later on I realized it was the goddess' bracelet or the ring or whatever you prefer :p. So I lost about 1½-2seconds while opening my 4th chest. I also "miss" couple of shots to the bosses but none of them affects my time nor looks bad imo ;), and I miss the red gargoyles on purpose to keep them away from me :p.
Oh almost forgot about the weapon of choice, it was so long ago when I last played this game that I had no idea about which weapon would be the fastest one to use. Although im pretty sure the dagger that I used first is the fastest one. In the quest finding the bracelet I used it from lvl2 till the end.

Bisqwit: Nobody has discussed this submission. Only one has casted a vote.
I had a look at the first 7 minutes of this movie.
Although it plays a nearly impossible level of difficulty, it doesn't look very impressive - it's just someone playing the game.
It progresses slowly and does nothing particularly impressive.
Does someone have another opinion?
Phil: That game is pretty hard but there's not a lot of action and the fact we must watch the game twice makes it extremely boring.
Bisqwit: The fate of this movie depends on the conclusion on the
question in the topic 'should a game that requires being completed
twice actually be played twice'. As far as I know, that topic is
still unconcluded.

Now I've seen it. Thanks to Krysimis for the solution. I was using an old version.
Anyway, on the subject of the run, I am reminded of the Genesis Ghouls 'N Ghosts run. Is it impossible to get the super-secret weapon in a single run-through? Because this is a very slow-moving game and to watch it twice is, in my opinion, unbearable.
I wonder if the knife/dagger is the best weapon to use. Sure, it is fast, but it is noticeably weaker than the standard lance. Have you tried the others? An FAQ says the "scythe" has "probably the best magic in the game."
Speaking of magic, I think it can be used better. It seemed that after using it, Arthur gains temporary invincibility. That could be used in lots of places. Maybe to get behind the giant fire/laser spitting bosses?
I'm not at all positive about the weapons but here is what I think.
Lance, its great as a normal weapon but when u get better armor it gets little stronger but it gets 2 times slower.
Dagger, you can shoot it 3 times when u can shoot 1 lance. Also hitting more slows enemies/bosses down more.
Axe, just plain useless as a magic.
Torch, might be powerful but a little tricky because it doesnt shoot very far.
Bow, shoots upwards like axe, could be useless in some places.
Scythe, slow and powerful also doesnt shoot very far.
Scythe's magic attack shoots "laser" beams to every direction, I dont think its very usefull. I'm afraid you cant get past other bosses than the frozen skeleton atleast you cannot get past the water level boss.
Also while doing my run I noticed the dagger being way better than the "bracelet" weapon, atleast in some levels :p. And about the second run through the game, I think its stupid aswell but blame the game not the player ;p
Care to share what version it is with the rest of us, so we can actually watch it instead of cursing that yet another "speedrunner" thinks everyone should have to play detective to watch their stupid fucking movie?
It requires both the version of SNES9x from feitclub's link, and the correct version of the ROM. The problem is that some ROM sites have mislabeled the US version (The one you don't want) as the European version (the one you do want). If it runs at 60 FPS and says "Capcom Presents" when you first turn it on, it's the US version. If it runs at 50 FPS and just says "Capcom" with the same sound you hear when you turn on SF2 or the Megaman X games, it's the European version.
Invoker, try to re-install your emulator and start it. It should work now, don't ask me why...but that was my solution to it :).
Edit: Before you re-install, could you please look up the size of your current SNES9x emulator? Is it at 1.622.016 bytes instead of 1.703.936 bytes?
I really don't know why you guys have problem, but I never had this problem and that Super Ghouls and Ghosts run is working more than fine with my emu that have this 1 703 936k size.
That's because the one from feitclub's link is the one that's 1,703,936 bytes. In other words, it works for you because you have the right version of the emulator and the right ROM.
Before, i implied that this mixup was the runmaker's fault; It's not. Not exactly, at least. The 1,622,016 byte Snes9X and the 1,703,936 byte one both say SNES9X v1.43-dev in the About window. The misnamed US ROM makes things even more confusing.

The movie itself was great. It obviously shows both knowledge of the level layouts and knowledge of arthur's insanely immobile jumping. My only qualms with the movie were that there were a few daggers here and there that didnt hit anything, and also that when played through again, the player does some timesavers that were obviously available in the first run through.
Still, I voted yes... a week or so ago. Its a great run, despite its small need for improvement
Unfortunately this movie is super long because you have to run through the game twice to actually beat it.
For the sake of entertainment, it might be worthwhile to use the level select cheat to skip to the end level the first time through so you don't have to beat *every* level twice

I vote yes.
I tried to play this game countless times I never even got past the first level. The sad part was that I wasn't even playing on the hardest setting. I don't suppose there's anyway for you to not have to go all the back to the beginning and do everything all over again? That would be the only reason I'd switch my vote. Good job!
I've beaten SG'nG plenty of times on professional and I own it so I still play this game all the time. It was cool to see someone make a speed run of this game; I've done the same thing on my SNES except all mine were done using only Steel Armor and Lance and I still managed to beat many of his times. I've seen the replay (I didnt know that one jump in lvl1 was possible!) More jumps will get u a faster time btw.
Also, I dont respect the fact that it was done on the E version. E version is a lot slower and some of the enemies were removed to make the game easier. The U version would have been more impressive.
not every game has such beautiful and colourful graphics as this one. he did a pretty descent timeattack, you should try to beat the final three bosses , it is easy said, than done, even with rerecords...
the platform game rygar on NES is even more boring and it has many published timeattacks.
We are here only to improve the battleground for next generations.

I would much rather see a run that goes through the game once and uses a variety of weapons; even though they might not be the best weapons to use it might make it more interesting. I don't understand why people want to see a full run of this game; the final boss battle isn't particularly entertaining nor is having to sit through the game a second time to see it. And yes, play it on the (U) version.
That's a good idea Deviance. But maybe u could just start recording once u've completed the first half of the game; that way u'll get the footage of Asutaroto and Sardius (final boss) in just one run. Wpn variety would b nice too (usin that whack tri-blade and the hefty axe)
A locked debate now it seems. Being a moderator do you think a separate topic with a poll should be created to finally resolve the issue, or at least come to a conclusion that satisfies (almost) everyone? I'm sure the question of what defines a "complete run" is bound to come up again.
