Sweet, I'm excited to see what else you can do with this game. You have my support! Unfortunately, I can't watch your WIP because I just moved out and don't have computer access at home yet (I'm at work right now :P) but I will keep an eye on this thread.

Thanks. I believe there's less room for improvement later in the game. Edit: I was so wrong again. This route saves more than 30 seconds: It's one of the hardest tricks I've ever recorded, although it's a classic timesaver, using enemy as a platform.

Eh, well, actually... The huge shortcut did not work, because the hyenas that need to be killed in order to progress in the level did not appear. It seems that the enemies in the upper part of the level are loaded after Simba reaches a certain spot and the bird-trick skips that spot. I've done the first two levels gaining 6 seconds 19 frames. I'm not actively recording this at the moment.

I forgot to update the WIP last time, so here's the first 2 levels done: http://www.freewebs.com/aqfaq/lktas.zip By the way, an obvious shortcut at level 5 has been missed in all movies so far. It will save ~15 seconds.

Can you backtrack some to make the hyenas show up?

The problem is that you'd need to backtrack half the level, which is slower than taking the ordinary route.

So that skip that Tompa posted about in the SNES game thread works on the Genesis version as well, this is great because it means I'm guaranteed to save a minute in this game https://youtu.be/5qdjHqaK-Oo?t=550 timestamp is at 9:10 for the skip

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/53265812403188364 I did the first two levels, if someone would like to compare this to the current publication (minus the time saved from using easy mode) that would be nice. encode: Link to video

Before I make a judgement on whether easy mode is okay, what are the differences between the difficulties besides the hyenas going down in one hit?

As far as I know, the only other change is the amount of lives you get. In hard you start off with 0 but in easy you start with 8.

Okay. I'll take it either way, then. From the posts it looks like there will be no question that better techniques were found.

To be honest so far your WIP looks badly optimised.. I see that you even missed some important details from recent Tompa TAS. For example visually huge mistake at 1:28 when poor little lion is fall on ground. It was painful to watch :( --- For serious work i highly recommend you to create excel document with table of X-positions at every key pointts and amount of frames for these points from Tompa TAS. About 10-30 key points per level would be enough. And then carrefully compare your results with this data.
I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. Current projects: NES: Tetris "fastest 999999" (improvement, with r57shell) Genesis: Adventures of Batman & Robin (with Truncated); Pocahontas; Comix Zone (improvement); Mickey Mania (improvement); RoboCop versus The Terminator (improvement); Gargoyles (with feos)

That is unavoidable. In the SNES game simba will land on the giraffe, but on genesis simba will fall farther forward. This is also done in the mukki tas. I dont think it’s fair to compare to tompa’s tas as there are slightly different mechanics, despite the games being nearly identical. Even some of the hitboxes for the enemies in the first level are different, and for some reason I cant do the ledge grab in the 1st level unless I bounce on that chameleon. There’s still going to be alot of testing from me during this, however let’s try not to compare genesis with snes.

Well, may be i was to hurry with judgement. Sorry. Completely forgot about version difference. By the way, what about L+R trick? Is it workable at genesis version?

Yes it works here too. I used it a bit in the first level, although it’s barely noticeable.

Tompa has agreed to join in on this project, here are some of the improvements he's done so far. Link to video
