05L73/bullet Can't shoot until all of the previous bullets disappears
Also, there are some other difference between 2D and 3D mode:
  • In 2D mode
    • For S gun, shoot 5 bullets in each time. And only could shoot again while a set of bullets are disappearing. (Especially, if 3 bullets of the first set disappears, and 2 of the second disappears, you can't shoot next new set of bullets.)
    • For L gun, you'll shoot a long laser if you press Y button at one frame.
  • In 3D mode
    • weapon system is similar to nes contra.
There is no CD RAM. Or I didn't find out it... Normally, pressing Y button discontinuously is faster than continuously.
    • Movements is same as Jackal. X or Y speed always equals 2. Not only on horizontal or vertical, but also on diagonal.
    • movement is not friendly. I searched the speed and position RAM though, speed is not so intuitive. Instead, calculating the position's change is important. And after comparing the different rotation angle, walking on the 45° angle is the fastest. (The actual speed = 2*√2=2.8284)
    • For S gun, you can shoot S bullet just when any bullet disappears.
    • For L gun, you can only shoot ONE bullet in every 2 frames. If you want to shoot a long laser, you need to press Y button continuously.
Many more lags before stage 1 start... I don't know how to compare between snes9x 1.43 with bizhawk 2.3.2. So hope someone could help me make a comparision list to show that difference.
And I'll show you a comparision without the emulators' difference.

Level-by-level notes

  • Stage 1
S is fastest. So use it instead of C.
I used that tank. It helps me beat boss in 6 frames (fastest). But I don't save any frame... It seems that there is a frame rule for that boss similar to nes contra 1. I tested that the screen starts to move at the same frame after the second boss.
  • Stage 2
Better movement, better weapon choice and better bullets shooted.
  • Stage 3
First of all, at the wall boss, I get many more lags... I don't know if it comes from the emulation difference or my unluck. And in my unused movie(you can get the encode from the playlist above), the fewest lags way is beating one bullet from that boss.
A real console can give me the correct answer - the emulation difference or my unluck. So I go to RTA website to find the video. And the movie's author wrote:
Stage 3
I use the lasers to snipe the snipers as we move right. After we do the midboss I die and Hurblat does the climb alone. The game lags too much to keep player 2 alive. Keeping player 2 in costs 17 seconds worth of lag. I still get to keep crush on one hand even though I lose all my lives which is awesome. Double crush and crush/laser pretty much wrecks everything as far as the rest of the stage goes. In case you're wondering why I have laser, the range helps in stage 4 and it also makes the boss fight in stage 5 much more consistent.
Jump at a better frame before the first tall wall.
So it's emulation difference. And I changed to use their idea: Make one of the the players die. And rebirth after. But still takes a long time... Because of more lags.
Faster boss fight.
  • Stage 4
61 lags more than previous run. So it's faster if you ignore that lags' difference.
  • Stage 5
Better movement, better weapon choice, and better bullets shooted.
  • Stage 6
Better weapon choice, and better bullets shooted.
Specially, the final boss r2, you need at least 3 rounds to beat it. And after a round, boss's HP will decrease 1/2. And each attack form has its own timer. Here a picture shows every timer.(It's not absolute, it's around that value.) So player's damage in the first round is 1/4, in the second round is 1/2. So you need to choose a shorter timer form in first two rounds.
contra 1 mini boss: 1 frame saved.
contra 1 boss: 2 frames lost.
contra 2 boss: 1 frame lost.
contra 2 arcade boss: 4 frames saved.
final boss r1: 43 frames saved.
final boss r2: 154 frames saved.
final boss r3: 74 frames saved.

Because running ram watch window is much slower, I used lua to watch them, instead. And I'll give you the lua file in the forum.

Some ram I didn't show in the lua, So I will give you here.

Memory: Claiming for judgment
Memory: This movie failed to beat all known records. #6091: Mr_K's SNES Contra III: The Alien Wars "2 players" in 12:48.97 is significantly faster than this run and is easily discovered through searches. Regardless of whether or not the author wishes to uncancel that run is irrelevant.
Rejecting.

I know wips. And compared with them before stage 3. Your newest desyncs so I stopped to compare them. Because there is no things I can do these days. It's too boring. So I choosed some games that I didn't want to make TAS before. Your progress seems to be paused. I guess you won't continue in these days. So I started my work. On the other hand, my lua message is wrong in this forum. Maybe because it's too long?

Disable HTML in that post. Comparison operators get interpreted as HTML tags by the forum.

Why do you guys like hiding your improvements here and there?... Or submitting an improvement and then cancel it? And you won't continue your work after cancelling it... I know the modern record is belongs to hero of the day. I know you upload your WIPs. And I know there are many movies in RTA website. So I compared with them and learned from them. But I DO NOT KNOW there is a cancelled submission being hided at an inconspicuous corner in this site... And unfortunately, after those stages in your wips, mine is slower than his. But what's the point of telling me that at this time? Why there are guys always saying that they can improve this run while it is being judged? You must want others to praise you, in my opinion. Otherwise, It's enough that mine is faster than modern record. Unless you return that cancelled submission to "new".

I mean all you have to do is a 3 step thing. 1. Open up Sub List. 2. Select Cancelled and Rejected. 3a. Reorder Movie Name so it's alphabetized. 3b. Ctrl + F : Contra It's not "hiding" anywhere. Also the extra step of checking your game, with the game list which can bring up usermovies which is listed under "WIPs". http://tasvideos.org/Game-List.html One of these two methods is what EZGames did to find out if your movie could possible have issues. --- This is something you, yourself can do by verifying that you're beating all known records. This isn't something that's worth ranting over about when you could've just verified yourself if a run existed. All it means is just try again, after all you push out a lot of content to begin with.

First off, it’s not hidden. A submission was made on the site that you can easily check, and there’s a game thread where I’ve posted progress before: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=474 Im taking a break from working on it because me and Mr K want to fully optimize crush subweapon optimization. I would have been fine with you making a submission for this game if you saw that my progress was halted and ask me if I was planning on working on the game in the future, this would have prevented this clash of movies.

I could care less about how people praise me, I just expect a movie to be faster than known records.

Good idea, I’ll ask Mr.K to set it back to new.

Soig, no one here is doing this on purpose. No one is conspiring against you. It can happen to anyone to make a mistake and not see a known improvement. It also happened to me before, for a submission that I was judging. In that case, I raised an exception and accepted the submission because the known improvement was little and uncertain due to emulation differences (see more in this post). However, in the case of Contra III, the known improvement is very clear. I know that it's horrible when these situations happen, but beating all known records is always a requirement. Otherwise anything could get accepted just because an author was unlucky. Edit: Just to be clearer about Code Name Viper: the fact that the old movie was shorter doesn't necessarily mean that it was faster. When comparing two movies, we have to take in account difference of emulation and difference of difficulty setting. BizHawk has different RNG and many more lag frames for Code Name Viper, and using the hardest difficulty setting doesn't always result in a harder TAS, because TASing can push a game so much that sometimes the harder difficulty results actually easier (for example, due to different enemy positions, as happened here).
Soig wrote:

I repeat: it can happen to anyone. No one here is saying that they are better TASers than you just because they were aware of an improvement that you didn't notice. I'm sure that if you used all the known tricks, your new TAS would be even faster than their. Everyone makes faster TASes by using tricks found by other people. TASing is not a competition, but a collaboration.

Still a dumb rule. WIPs are WIPS for a reason, generally the runner hits a wall or a desync which is why they didn't carry on their run.
Otherwise anything could get accepted just because an author was unlucky.
Beating the existing complete record is not 'anything could get accepted!" Far from it. Not finishing a WIP is also not 'unlucky'. EZ's had plenty of time to work on his WIP, hence the discussion between the two of them over priority. This is what happens when WIPs don't get finished and another runner wants to take a crack at it. If it's supposedly 'easy' to beat, well, EZ should make it so. He's beaten HOTD, should be publishable unless EZ wants to finish his run.

Yeah, that's nice. We're not even comparing with a WIP, it's more of a minor point. We're comparing to a canned submission which is faster, which is apparently the major point you're ignoring or missing or glossing over.

Great work Soig. I really liked the run! Your entertainment value was superior to my run and you included many new clever time savers. However, reading this thread it seems that there is some optimization still to happen. I hope you continue to work at it and make a more perfect run. I really look forward to seeing my old run finally taken out!

Hey Soig, great work! I submitted a run but canceled it some time ago. I am not so good at making tool assisted speedruns, but I know this game really well. If you take a look at the strategies I used in my submission, you'll see several improvements. What would be really great is if you could work with us on improving the run further. I gave up improving the run because manipulating the crush damage is too hard. With your help I think we can do a lot better though. Would you like to contribute?

Yes, I got your good points. Especially in stage 5.
Mr_K wrote:

It's the reason I choose S weapon. It's much easier to close C's max damage. (80 dmg in each 10 frames. =8 dmg per frame.)

I don't want to make movies for this game, again(Maybe). After all this is not my favorite contra game. Or I'm afraid of doing things with others. I'm alone all the time. But look forward to your next run. And it's okay for me to give you my suggestions. You can send me your WIP, and I'll tell you what I think. And the author belongs to you two people, naturally. Also, if I want to make a TAS for this game in the future, I'll ask and join you.(I didn't ask you when I did this movie because I guess you have stopped it or given it up.)

Just improve the run if it is obviously slower. It happens to many players (myself included).

I remembered an important and interesting thing. Heidman submitted his super c pacifist run on 11.12 2012. And I improved it and submitted on 11.16.2012. But I took damage to some unnecessary ememies without killing them. I did it because I did the same thing for contra pacifist run (in stage 5) before. And nobody pointed out that at that time. But for super c pacifist, many people pointed out that. So I'm not happy and cancelled that submission. After that, Nach accepted Heidman's run and other one published it. No one say "there is a faster run. This one can't be accepted. And no other judger to re-judge that submission." However, for this run, the cancelled run beats mine. And what is "decision" in this site? [decision: accepted.] [decision: delayed.] [decision: publication underway.] It's already a decision, why it can be changed to rejected? If it's so, can I think rejected can be changed to accepted? And published can be changed to rejected or cancelled? If it's true, please change all of my movies to rejected. Or allow me to cancel them and delete them. Xipo can make administrators to delete the video made by him and uploaded by me on bilibili. So why can't I make you to delete my video on this site?

Ok, for the canceled vs canceled thing it's 2 different categories which doesn't help. You're comparing to a pacifist run to your situation with a normal run. Mr_K cancelled his run due to finding improvements that he can work on (with EZGames69). Comparing TASVideos 2012 to 2019 doesn't really help due to the changing of the structure being immensely different. Heidman wrote something important back then which I'm surprised you didn't continue looking on the conversation.
Heidman wrote:
Soig, does it really matter what others think? Voting and the talk in this thread are all about just people that are not judges expressing how they feel about the TAS that is being presented to them. You have to realize that not everyone is going to like what you create for one reason or another. But the fact is that it does not matter. What matters is how you feel about it. And as far as getting it onto the site is how the judges feel. I created my TAS and am very happy with it. I dont care that people bashed it, or any of my speedruns over on SDA. You should just be happy that you accomplished something. Why is that not enough?
I don't know why this is a question at all to begin with but here goes. Decision is basically a string of text informing people that it's still being set and is actually easier to find when it's being judged/accepted/published due to having it say "Decision". Well that's how I personally read it anyways, it saying "Decision" instead of not saying anything seems more important than nothing placed there besides "Accepted". As for your second half. No, that's not how the site works, it's about preserving history and if you're being very harsh on yourself for no actual reason. Rejected cannot be changed to Accepted unless it's a run that was missed in the Vault introduction where movies previously rejected were judged once again. You can do Canceled to Accepted (after a process) Published cannot be changed either due to again, history. However, Publication Underway can be changed to cancelled/rejected due to well the normal reasons of cancelled and rejected. The Xipo point doesn't make any sense. As for the second half, as I mentioned and I'll make it it's own sentence. That's not how the site works. It's about preserving history and if you're being very harsh on yourself for no actual reason.

So where's the improvements work on? Several years gone, isn't it finished? And so many other movies are submitted by them? Does they really continue? "Does it really matter what others think?" Remember it please. I won't continue to do TAS for this site. But I won't leave here. Because you told me you will hold my works without my permission. Also, I'll do some unfriendly things to you in future. And you shall be happy because you've said that before. Let me see it please. Maybe you would delete or forbidden this account. But before doing this, delete the works belonging to this account, please.

I personally have projects hitting 5 years old now due to a technical hiccup, motivation hitting a wall or lost interest completely in a game. If you have a complaint about something that you know the technical knowledge on, you create a TAS on it and work on it yourself or with other people or give out a helping hand to them, the site is communal it doesn't have to be a solo project.

The argument over the two threads that intertwine at parts doesn't make sense here due to what's being said or presented.

I won't continue to do TAS for this site. But I won't leave here.
You can choose whatever you want to do, but the choice you're deciding is all because you couldn't accept being accepted and rejected as well. This honestly doesn't make sense from both an outside looking in or being part of this whole ordeal from the get go.

Because you told me you will hold my works without my permission.
I hope that this is a translation error. I said that because of History we cannot undo your works or delete them. What I didn't mention is we can remove all association from you and removing you as an author from all your works. But that's stripping off the hard work that you put into your work for the past 9 years of you being at this site, it isn't a good feeling to remove someone that's dedicated.

You can say whatever type of threats you want to whoever you want, but that's not you and it cannot be stressed not to go down that route. You're a very well respected runner who has some fumbling but this message is like a message for help and it can't be ignored. We don't want to lose you just over something over a canned submission being faster, or some history 7 years ago when the site was younger and was more different. We always want to see a person grow, and as a Publisher there are submissions I actually look forward to and always try to get and publish and I still wait on those submissions even to this day.

Disables Comments and Ratings for the YouTube account. These colours are pretty neato, and also these.

All of us began to make TAS, because we looked other TASes. They looks awesome, interesting, fancy, unusual. So we registered on this site, made our own TAS and submitted here. After the first accepted, we were very happy. And it urge us to continue to do the next work. And as time went on, we made TAS better and better. It becomes more entertainment, and faster. And I had no idea when I need to dump the encode and upload it to Youtube to show you a ready-made video. (China blockade the way to Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and Google except a few special cities. So it's hard for me to upload the video. But I still do that to make it conveniet for you. Or if I didn't do that, you won't look at here.) However, I joined in 2010. Now is 2019. Nine years have gone, I can beat the record belonging to myself. And add other things into the video. But I don't know why I can't get many replay counts. My movie always has several thousand or several ten thousand rerecord counts. But I always get several hundred replay counts on the video site. (Youtube, Tudou, and bilibili) But the video uploaded by other people without my permission, can always get over than 10 thousand counts. Sometimes someone didn't know I'm the author, they thought I steal Soig's work. Or others said the movie is fake. It makes me thought about giving up on TAS. But I keep doing it because I can get the impartial treat here. But now what, I get unfair treats here. The final home changed. Why do I need to keep my mood and attitude? Making TAS is not easy. It always cost much long time. But as for you judgers and publishers, you get our works everyday. So getting a TAS becomes a very easy thing for you. For judgers, you just wait for several days, and browse the postbacks, watch the movie. Then give us a decision and write down some words. For publishers, you just dump the video and upload to Youtube which we submitter have done before. But I don't know why these easy works always need a longer time than us. I cost 1 month. You'll cost 2 months. Maybe if you finished a submission more quickly, the submit page would be empty. Because I know it's not easy, I didn't submit my work until Mars's work published. But another one don't know that principle and post his WIP. What I can't believe is that YOU, YOU, YOU many people, reject mine with that WIP. I know why you do that. You will get that improvements finally, and rejecting mine won't cause any lose to yourself. So you did that. But for me, it's unfair. So I don't want to continue that TAS. If I guess not wrong, the submitter, who submit the contra run, and whose movie is rejected during publication underway, didn't he continue to make the next TAS? Maybe he could have continued to make more TAS. But he is hurted by you. You said grow up. Because the grow up, you create a new emulator called Bizhawk, and make us to use it. Its emulation is more accurate, I know. But it runs too slow. And more bugs compared against the native emulator. But those don't be fixed up in these years. But the site is yours, so I have to agree with you if I want to submit my work. Because the grow up, we can make TAS on more consoles. But the new consoles, such as wiiu, PS4, switch, 3ds can't make TAS in so many years. Is it really grow up? Because the grow up, we can make a TAS faster and faster. And TASers become more and more in this site. So as for you, we submitter becomes more and more unimportant. This world won't change any more if someone disappear or leave. So you can give unfair treats to anyone sometimes. If the submitter is young, he may improve the TAS as you say. But the worst is that the submitter becomes angry and leave here. But it doesn't matter to this site. A man leave, another man will come. And the movie made by the previous man is still here. So it won't cause loss to this site and you judgers and publisher and other stuff. It only causes loss to ourselves, the movies' authors. We can't take our own things. And leave them here to make the site more well-known. You said I shouldn't doing this bad things. I just need to improve my work. Why? You're unfair. And I cost a long time to improve it. And give it to you? You get my work. Upload the video and get several thousand replay or even more, becomes more famous. You are earned. But what for me? I get only several hundred replays. And In order to get it, I need to do the same work twice? It should have been accepted. But it's not.

If you’re talking about my improvement, I did post an update about a month ago here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=488585#488585
So several years went on, you've finished it? Please don't tell me you need to cost many years to do a thing, and submit other movies during this time? Would you finish that before my death? Can I watch your video before my death?
