About the game

YuYuMD is a 2.5D fighting game featuring a cast of 11 different characters comprised of most of the shows leading characters leading up to the end of the Sensui arc, with a "lane-changing" mechanic similar to fighting games like Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, or platformers like Shantae. Its gameplay style and presentation would largely serve as a base for other fighting games developed by Treasure: sharing extremely noticeable similarities with Guardian Heroes, as well as Bleach: Dark Souls. While a majority of competitive players gather around the 1v1 aspect, an extremely notable feature of YuYuMD was its 4-player Tag-Battle and Battle Royale modes. With very little slowdown during battles, it was touted as an impressive feat for the Mega Drive at the time of its release. During some game festivals, Japanese players will still meet and organize 4-player Battle Royale and Tag-Battle tournaments to this day!

feos: Claiming for judging.
feos: I couldn't find any information about a stat that could have been minimized in this run to make it "low%", so I'm removing that from the branch. If there's some explanation of it in the future, it may be restored if proven relevant.
feos: Removed blank input at the end of the movie file.
feos: While we have requirements about technical qualities of movies in our Rules, it's hard to objectively measure how well-made a run is if it solely aims for entertainment, because entertainment is inherently subjective. For a playaround to be accepted for publication, it needs to be entertaining to the audience. And as mentioned by Spikestuff, a fighting game playaround needs a lot of variety to be entertaining, which usually involves using different characters and controlling both (or more) characters at once. If gameplay is deep enough, single-player movies can also be highly entertaining. But for this game, showcasing different characters would have been much more appealing.
If a playaround is not entertaining enough for Moons, it's still tricky to judge its technical quality and whether it's still well-done and can go to Playground. Arguably, if some variety is still there, and effort behind it can be noticed, it's not so bad. Thought it still doesn't mean that a playaround is meant to generally present the game itself, with dialogs and cutscenes, like a longplay. Speed may not be the main focus, but it shouldn't be outright ignored either. Things that are not related to main gameplay still need to be decently optimized. A lot of advises are given on our Guidelines page. As mentioned by Spikestuff in the post I linked above, optimality in this movie is still very questionable, in places where entertainment is not a factor.
Another issue is the fact that this run doesn't sync on a clean ROM and requires using an English translation, which we don't allow. I asked the community about whether people feel like we can give fan translations a chance. And I couldn't quite get a consensus that right now is the right time to consider making such a rule change.
Due to the above reasons, I still can't send this submission even to Playground, therefore I have to reject it. This was a decent start though, so maybe you can return with a better run in the future, pftmclub!

I'm just going to break everything I saw down to keep it easy for everyone to know what I was thinking when I was watching this. The author allows the opening sequence to the title to play longer than necessary. The author also has suboptimal menuing, where not using the second player to input a single right to change difficulty nor pressing start which automatically exits out of the configuration menu on the same frame as selecting hardest (two to the right). The author doesn't hit A/B/C/Start when the Versus/Victory screen appears which allows to skip by such sequences sooner. Part of this can be associated with the low rerecord count as it seems the author didn't take their time in making this TAS. The author classifies this as a "playaround" but there is no sequence of using the second player to showcase other characters, all the author does is showcase Yusuke. There are RTA runs that are faster than what's on display here if we remove the playaround element. low% seems to be arbitrary and shouldn't be listed at all. The author also plays on an English fan Translation patch which is against the rules.

Well, sort of not. I made a playaround of this game in 2005 and posted it here. I reuploaded it to userfiles now since the link was dead: User movie #637964568855631759. It was never submitted. In the thread for this game, Thread #2998: Yuu Yuu Hakusho, there was also a guy named FLY117 who posted some combo videos.
