While taking a break from Cabal I decided to experiment with luck manipulation in The 7th Saga for SNES. I read the luck manipulation section in the FAQ but it didn't help me, none of the suggestions worked. I'm trying to figure out how to manipulate the battles for critical hits and misses. So far, the only way I've found this to be possible is by defending/attacking at different times. It seems that when the enemy is scripted to do something he will do it regardless of the frame you press the button on. I tested this several times. I fought a hermit and it would dodge my first hit no matter what I did. The only thing that changed this was defending. By defending he hit me then I was was able to launch a counter-attack. I can't figure out how to change the critical ratio or enemy hit ratio, just whether they attack or cast a spell. Can someone help me out here? I'd really like to do a run of this game but without serious luck manipulation it would take way too long, like 20+ hours.
Guybrush: "I'm selling these fine leather jackets." Wally: "Really?" Guybrush: "No. I 'm lying." Wally: "In that case, I don't want one!" Currently working on: Nothing at the moment.

It seems likely that the random results are being determined one step earlier than most games do it. In other words, to manipulate that enemy to miss, you probably have to change the frame that you choose attack on that ended the previous battle (and if it's the first battle in the game, you'll just have to live with the fact that the first battle can't be manipulated). It could also be even further back than that, and it could require many frames instead of just 1 frame to make a difference, or it could depend on how many times you moved the battle menu cursor or how many sound effects it made - I wouldn't know, but whatever it is things will have to be set up to work out in advance. (BTW, isn't there a thread in the SNES games section that would be better for asking this question in? You don't seem to be asking about luck manipulation in general.)
