CoolHandMike: Claiming for judging.
CoolHandMike: Hello and welcome to Tasvideos. This submission does not complete the game or have a reasonable goal, it is also not optimized, and also not entertaining. For these reasons it is not suitable for Standard, Alternative, or Playground and is rejected. To learn how to achieve better results take a look at [5704] DS New Super Mario Bros. "warpless" by Glitchman24, Soig & clockwatcher in 40:35.21 and [4647] DS New Super Mario Bros. "warps" by clockwatcher & Hartmann in 20:18.62 as a reference for more what a tas of this game should look like. To learn more about tasing refer to https://tasvideos.org/TasingGuide. There are also lots of people available to answer questions on our discord and forum.
This submission is Rejected.
Note: Syncs on Bizhawk 2.9.1 so modified the emulator field to reflect that.

This is definitely one of the movies of all time: The inputs were inputted, there was movement that moved, and there was probably at least 1 optimization. I vote.

I... have no words. Like what's the deal? Is this a 100% run that was abandoned once the runner realized it was horribly unoptimized? The subcategory implies he's trying to get a quick Game Over or simply die as early as possible, but he doesn't even do that. The run ends when he dies touching a Goomba in 1-2. I think what happened is he decided to record a TAS in real time, but he didn't know how to use save states. Link to video

I could easily get a time of 53 seconds by just dying to the first Goomba in 1-1. Literally.
Post subject: Why do I feel like this "newbie's textwall" thing is gonna be a series? I hate that! D:

Hey MQ5PIVER, I'd like to make it clear that according to the others that have commented before me, your movie appears to be playing in a suboptimal manner (meaning not in the fastest methods possible), and that your goal is very unclear. FIRST. Your submitted goal is "die", yet (according to Emil_Borg) you chose to get all Star Coins in World 1-1 (akin to a 100% run), then touch a Goomba in World 1-2.
If the goal was to actually lose a life as fast as possible, it would very much be possible to simply touch the first Goomba in World 1-1; even faster to just enter the level and stop input from here. If the goal was to get a game over, you'd have to repeat the above actions four more times.
Either way, both goals are arbitrary and cannot deem any potential runs with those goals in mind to be publishable. SECOND. Your run seems to be sloppy and suboptimal according to the comments I've read for this submission. I don't have much knowledge in New Super Mario Bros., but I can tell you that it definitely needs improvements. While in the submission menu it mentions that the emulator used is "2021", I can see that you used BizHawk after downloading the ZIP and extracting it (according to the file that was in the ZIP file). You'll want to spend more time making use of its emulator tools, including savestates, rewinds, frame-by-frame advances, and especially TAStudio. Also, I'd like for you to make a note on these two movies of this game, take a look at them; notice the tricks they use and the optimal movements they make. You could learn a thing or two. And if this game isn't for you, there's plenty more to choose from. Just make sure your run (whatever game it may be of) is optimized to its fullest. THIRD, and this is really a minor thing (just for me anyway). Your submission text is the default dummy text, and I believe that has been left unchanged for many years, if not since the site was first founded. This dummy text is supposed to form a start for what you wanna say about your run, the game, the stages/levels/world, and any potential tricks or glitches you perform. But honestly, just leaving it blank, with dummy text, and/or with little to no information about the run doesn't leave a good impression; viewers can have trouble understanding what your run is about. Myself, I like to read about the run that I'm viewing and, if there is a video of the run available, watch it. Concerning your location (Yes, I took a peek at your profile), I feel that English isn't your first language. You are perfectly fine to express your opinions in whatever language you prefer, but in either case, you'll want to ask questions and get feedback on your future efforts. Right now, however, after all that I've said, I don't think this run has potential, sorry. (Not voting.)
Yaaay, I'm an active player now! :D (as of 11/9/2024) Thanks to TASVideos for the support, they're awesome.
I'm Asumeh, semi-expert SMB1 TASer. :) Check out some of the TASes I don't submit/upload to TASVideos on my YouTube channel, if you'd like. In progress: - Extra Mario Bros. (redo) (with HappyLee and w7n) - I'm currently assisting with finding improvements before the boss. On hold; we're currently struggling to confirm that we have the fastest route. Some debugging may also help with finding glitch exits, but neither of us are experts in that field. - Record my older TASes (excluding any obsolete TASes) and upload to YouTube. - Pretty busy at the moment... Check out my other links here. (Mostly WIP hehe)

Don't want to be a bad guy or something, but this submission is probably a troll or something to mess around with in the site, and nothing serious about it. It is not even April Fools to justify it. I guess the user should be warned about it, as it just creates extra effort and time that are not necessary to spend.
I still learn more about English. https://www.youtube.com/user/McBobX100

Detouring a person is not helpful for future growth for a user. As long as they follow the request that came from Asumeh then hopefully we see improvements, even if they don't get accepted still there's always still potential to be made.

I can relate to that because when I joined the site, I did submit A LOT of poorly made TASes, but at least, I was finishing games even if they were significantly slower, since my understanding to what the site actually look for was very obscure and did those runs for fun. I kept learning by time what should I aim for when making a TAS. I do hope to see MQ5PIVER doing actual good quality TASes and I'm sure they will be awesome to watch!

I'm going to assume you meant this as sarcasm. While sarcasm has its place, I don't think this is it. Sarcasm can easily come across as rude and condescending to a new member as opposed to welcoming; which is what we should be expressing to new members/submitters. We don't want to potentially chase new people away because you're trying to make a joke. It'd be much more worthwhile to provide constructive feedback (as others here have attempted) that might actually help the newcomer better understand the site submission rules or to learn strategies to become a better TASer. In this particular instance, I find it especially rude to attempt a sarcastic joke given the 4 posts immediately preceding yours (including the one that notes suspicion that the author isn't a native English speaker; meaning the attempted sarcasm could potentially be completely lost on them).
