Mountain King is an Atari 2600 game by CBS Electronics. The objective of this game is to collect a golden crown from a temple and escape to the top of a mountain.

Objectives

  • Fastest completion
  • Major skip glitch
  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.11.0 (Stella core)

Notes

What you're supposed to do is explore and collect 1 000 points. Clusters of diamonds can be found on the ground, granting 25 points each. Alternatively, you can find a treasure chest that grants 250 points. Once 1 000 is reached, you have to follow the music to find the Flame Spirit. After collecting the Flame Spirit, you are granted access to the temple and the golden crown. After this, you must climb to the top of the stage. If a bat flies into you, you lose the crown and have to repeat this whole process.
If you walk off a platform, you will fall straight down. Falling short distances will make you stop for a bit when you land, and falling long distances will stun you for a short time. You can jump from any height and not be stunned, but you cannot change your direction once you jump. Bloopiero found that by repeatedly holding and releasing left and right at the same time, you can descend in a straight line without being stunned at all.
Bloopiero made the inputs for the floor clip, which allows us to skip collecting points and finding the Flame Spirit. Now it's just a mad dash to the top. You can jump before a ladder to save a few frames, which I do for each ladder on the way up.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Since I've already had experiencing TASing this game, I see nothing wrong here. In fact, this is much better than what I have done. Good job on this.
Accepting to "Standard".

Wow...played this game a lot on the Vic-20. I had actually tried to TAS this a few years ago, but I wasn't satisfied with it...so I waited until I could figure out something. Seems like you found even more stuff than I did. Great job on the glitches and run.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? NYMX: I'm not playing a game, I'm TASing. SOYZA: Oh...so its not a game...Its for real? ---- Anybody got a Quantum computer I can borrow for 20 minutes? Nevermind...eien's 64 core machine will do. :) ---- BOTing will be the end of all games. --NYMX

Someone's gonna have to poke around in the "Secret Kingdom" above the mountain now and see what a TAS can accomplish up there!
