Spot: The Video Game is a 1991 board game video game featuring then 7-Up mascot, Cool Spot (which I never heard of, this was simply before my time). The game plays similarly to Othello or Reversi and was also released on NES, MS-DOS, and Amiga systems.
Objectives
- Easiest difficulty
- No editing the board
- Emulator used: BizHawk 2.11.0
Notes
I take my cells on the bottom-right side of the screen and make a mad dash for the CPU's bottom-left set. Going for the top-right set is sub-optimal because this would just allow the CPU to grow the bottom-left set. After taking the bottom-left set, I go for the top-right. I have to let the CPU take some of my cells in order to win quickly. All other moves result in the CPU making this triangle pattern that can't be taken in just 1 move.
RTA runners of this game use the "Edit Board" feature, which allows you to place walls on the board before starting the game. They then box the CPU's cells in, allowing for a faster victory. Personally, I didn't want to use this feature. It’s sort of comparable to editing a chess board to set up Black for a Turn-1 loss.
Challenger: Using the Edit Board does give more advantage to the player, but for the other side I like the concept of playing a board game via the intended way as expected. Nice routing!

Challenger: Moviefile updated to include a cycle count so everything is still fine.
