VVVVVV in 5:23.083 (4:41 IGT)

Game objectives

  • Game version: 2.4.3 (newer)
  • Aims for in-game time instead of real time (so times are comparable)
  • Uses death to save time
  • Heavy glitch abuse

Comments

  • So for my first finished PC (Linux) TAS goes to VVVVVV. This time I improved Masterjun's movie by 21 seconds, thanks to a new route in the first half of the run where I go trigger the left teleport first before triggering the right teleport for out of bound shenanigans. This allows me to reach the LIES (yes LIES) section way earlier saving a good chunk of time.
  • Now this run seems to be not so fast compared to current RTA record, as it's only 3 seconds faster. This is because there isn't complex stuff going on, and most actions can be buffered. This gives RTA a good advantage, however input sequences for glitches are still difficult to memorize, so shoutout to RTA runners doing really a good job finishing this game so fast!
  • I enjoyed making this run. It felt good also trying libTAS for a full project, even if the game is somewhat simpler for TASing. That was fun!

Special thanks

  • Masterjun: For his dedication for this game, and his TASes
  • RTA community for putting good effort into researching optimal routes and lowering the record
  • You for watching!
Enjoy! See you in another project!

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Very surprising improvement, on a very popular game. I think the last time I saw such an improvement (relatively), was when sniq destroyed [2436] SNES Super Metroid "100%" by Cpadolf in 1:08:15.74. All i can say, is WOW. Great job and such an amazing watch. So much, that I had to watch it twice! :)

What an unexpected surprise to start another week, with a big improvement to the Masterjun's current run! Great research and yes vote.

Okay, I remember VVVVVV having a broken speedrun before, but this was entirely incomprehensible. Yes vote.

Sync instructions?

I don't remember using any special settings for sync. What happens exactly?

The game launches and then nothing happens, despite frames advancing.

I just replayed the movie on the same version (2.4.3 GOG version) on libTAS 1.4.8 and it synced. Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS. No settings changed at all.

Source wasn't mentioned, so I used the Steam one and it wasn't working. Don't have access to GOG.
