We had a discussion amongst staff where I volunteered to spearhead the revival of Stars, and it was met with heavy support. However, I will be running things a bit differently. Firstly, in addition to the thread, I will be opening a channel in the Discord Server where suggestions and discussions of Stars candidates will be welcome. In addition, I plan to pay more attention to the different forms in which runs can be entertaining besides old TASVideos metrics. I might want to overhaul some guidelines we'll see. I have a number of star candidates in mind already I would like to talk about as well. I will also be making Kirby's Dream Land 3 Starred, so please focus your feedback on Wario World now. Reminder to be respectful of people's TASes even if you don't personally like them and if you don't like something, please respectfully indicate as such.

Due to support on discord as well as on site, [7249] GC Wario World by EZGames69 & inconsistent in 30:57.267 is now Starred. So the way I see Stars is that it should be the generic answer to the question "What are some cool TASes?" without knowing what the person asking is into. As such I would like to tackle some underappreciated genres and also types of tases. Notably, I know glitchless RPG speedrun is a big thing in the RTA scene and we really don't have any glitchless RPG stars right now. I'd like to see what people would think about Starring one of the Pokemon co-op diploma runs. They are: Personally I'm leaning towards Gen 2 since it has the highest ratings but I'm definitely open to suggestions otherwise!

Per discussion on discord, [5399] GBC Pokémon: Crystal, Silver and Yellow Version "Co-op Diploma" by gabraltar in 6:56:24.504 is now Starred. I'd still be interested in adding other glitchless rpg TASes to stars, and rpgs in general for that matter. Ikuyo brought up on discord [1555] SNES Final Fantasy V & VI by neo_omegon in 3:52:15.967. While the ratings are low, it was made in a different era and people had different standards back then. I can definitely imagine it having an audience if people are willing to support it. I'm bringing up [5288] NES Dragon Warrior IV by adelikat in 1:56:29.29. For those not in the know, Dragon Quest (formerly Dragon Warrior in the US) is stupid popular in Japan and was massively influential on JRPGs as we know them. This movie has some pretty good ratings as well. Unlike with the pokemon co-op diploma, these aren't either or suggestions, you can support both, neither, or make your own.

I'll suggest [4662] NES Legacy of the Wizard by Lord_Tom in 12:44.491. This movie has extremely high ratings and features tons of optimization, luck manipulation, and glitches. IMO this run absolutely deserves a Star.

Starred [4662] NES Legacy of the Wizard by Lord_Tom in 12:44.491 I'm also announcing that I'm now working with darkman425 and inputevelution and plan to consult them on various star candidates, especially when there's not always much current community feedback for a candidate.

Seconding VVVVVV, Kuru Kuru Kururin, and DK64. While I'm at it, suggesting [6214] GBA The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap by Tompa in 1:19:55.85. It has so many insane skips and tricks as well has high ratings.

I agree with VVVVVV and Minish Cap.

I starred Kuru Kuru Kururin due to support here and in the discord. Gonna have to take a look at V6, I know "No Death Mode" is already starred, would have to compare. EDIT: Also for what it's worth, on the Discord my focus has been on 3DS Stars. Currently we have Garfield Kart starred, but I am interested to hear about other possibilities.

I definitely liked that V6 run quite a lot, but I'm not quite sure if I wanna move over V6 All Trinkets No Death Mode's Star to it. If they weren't both all trinkets, I would definitely feel ok with having both Starred, but I'd like a little diversity. EDIT: Starred it.

Thirding Zelda Minish Cap. And also I want to suggest [5395] Wii New Super Mario Bros. Wii "warps" by MGR, Squashh_1 & Qr1pt1k in 24:20.90. An incredible improvement to the previous publication, both in optimization and overall entertainment with creative and sometimes insane strategies being shown. EDIT: I also want to suggest [4513] N64 Donkey Kong 64 "no levels early" by theballaam96 in 1:37:18.52. I know DK64 any% has been suggested before but this one showcases much more of the game and how truly broken it can be.

I just starred [6756] 3DS The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds by p4nc4k3 in 1:12:35.000. I felt it was best to have a second 3DS Star in addition to Garfield Kart and A Link Between Worlds got the most support. As such, I'm not suuuuuuuuuuuuper into the idea of adding another Zelda Star (TMC) right away. Definitely will need to watch that movie at some point however!

ok I know what I said about not wanting too many Zelda stars but [6307] N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "Triforce% ACE Showcase" by Sauraen, dwangoAC & Savestate in 53:05.300 was such a different TAS that I felt was important to Star and got a good amount of support on the discord as well. Additionally, I replaced the star of [2473] DOS Jetpack by slamo in 32:22.550 with [6473] DOS Alone in the Dark by tigrou in 05:51.220. The latter is flashier, a more well known game and is a horror game which we don't have many stars of to begin with (I think just Resident Evil 4). I am far from opposed to giving Jetpack a star back at some point, but for most of its history, it was hard to separate it from how it was kinda pushed as a star largely by an admin and had some rather minimal support otherwise. If it gets support in the future I'd be happy to revisit it. In the meantime though, I'd like to talk Touhou. Touhou is mega popular, is of a genre that is frankly underexplored on tasvideos, and has some rather impressive gameplay. In particular, I'd like to focus on the shmups (not to knock touhou 1 but it's probably not what people expect of touhou). The scoring system of the shmups has some really interesting stuff going on in it, namely the Graze mechanic where you get extra points for getting close to enemy projectiles, resulting in gameplay where you get close to the bullets. I know a lot of people here generally seem to prefer speed based TASes or playarounds, but I know the STG score scene is fairly prominent outside of our sphere and I would like to appeal outwards, not just inwards. The publications I would like to discuss: I'd like people's thoughts on this.

From feedback through discord, I ended up starring: [4738] PC98 Touhou Kaikidan ~ Mystic Square "maximum score" by KirbyComment in 35:15.167 Now, let's talk the TurboGrafx/PC Engine family of consoles. No movies are starred from any of these systems, and yet there's a good amount of movies for them! Here is a list of all the TG16, TGCD, and SG movies listed by ratings. [4126] PCE Genpei Touma Den by WarHippy, Mittenz, The8bitbeast & g0goTBC in 07:54.057 was suggested in the Discord and is the highest rated of these movies. I'm interested to see what other people think and if anything else should be starred. EDIT: About NSMBWii, I'm not opposed if it gets some more support. While older 2D Mario games are extremely well represented in Stars, newer ones really aren't. Also the ice flower/penguin suit strats are sick. DK64 we'd need to come to some consensus about which goal. I'm also not opposed there.

A year later, I'm bringing this back up. It has awesome tricks, fast action, and super high ratings. Not sure if this should coexist with DKC2 102%'s star or if this should replace its star.

Starred [4126] PCE Genpei Touma Den by WarHippy, Mittenz, The8bitbeast & g0goTBC in 07:54.057. Not enough interest has been shown in other PCE movies at this time so I will be moving on. I've noticed that excluding Castlevania which mainly just has rpg elements, the only starred RPG for a non nintendo system is Diablo. I'd like to nominate [3863] Genesis Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium "macro glitch" by Jiseed in 20:33.04. It has some really fun glitches in there.

g0goTBC brought up [4022] A2600 Pitfall II: Lost Caverns "maximum score" by Lobsterzelda in 09:25.745 for Stars and I really like that suggestion because we don't have any Atari2600 stars and that was a rather important period in gaming history. It's a popular game for the time period, and there's some noticeable techniques. The ratings aren't the greatest but that's not a total deal breaker to me. Additional thoughts?

Why not https://tasvideos.org/3543M? /s In all seriousness, I agree that Pitfall II is a good choice.

This is a great idea, because this game has a very good technical gameplay, variety, and the most important stuff: the music! The game pushed the limits of the Atari 2600 hardware not only for having a sequel of the famous first Pitfall game but also being an innovative game by the time the other games were about to became the breakthrough, err... advancing to the next generation with major changes in the gameplay formula, especially Super Mario Bros. In short, why not adding a Star? Seconding this idea :)
