But don't you think that's like warping? I makes the video less interesting, becuse several bomb rooms are skipped!

Hmm yes, a "best ending, fastest time" run would be cool to see too, but I'd still vote for a 100% run, simply because I still believe that it would be pretty short. And seeing all levels played is cooler than seeing only some of them, at least in my opinion :) And about fusing the clips together, I know that hanzou made a tool that could do this, he made a few fcm's using this. He's really helpful, so if you ask him kindly, I believe he might help you out. But you have to realize that often it's not as easy as to just fuse the clips together, there could be factors that depend on which frame you enter a room, stuff like enemy placement and movement. I'm not good at this stuff, but I think it's possible to get this to work. And a tips, from experience I've learned that it's often very good to redo a run, when redoing a run you often find new things that can be improved. So if you have no luck fusing the clips together, I believe it to be a pretty good idea to redo the run, implementing all new strategies. But of course it would be good if someone fuses your clips together. So they're both good ideas :) Good luck with this, either way!

Ok! I'm skipping some rooms but, if I go that way, I couldn't get the crystall ball because the only way to get it is through room 7-2! So thats out of options. But I think that I know what coins I take! 5-1,7-4(I'll have to redo that part!),11-3, 16(shown in scubeds screenshots) and the one I know in the end! I think this is the fastest way because those coins are on my way! If someone could send me screenshot of coin 7-4 I'd be grateful! I'm too busy to make my movie or to study the game, so I'm not sending any WIPs today:(

Well, you have to skip rounds 8 and 9 to get the first crystal. Unless there's a way through those hidden doors, that looks like the only shortcut anyway.

P.S. I mentioned earlier you might need to be green to make certain blocks disappear - not true. Disappearing blocks only have a set number of times you have to jump off them. The highest used in the game is 5, but the setting goes up to 15. UPDATE: MAP COMPLETE! At least, until/unless someone figures out a way to open those hidden doors.

Here's my progress. I have to do the end again because I need those 3 mighty coins to get the crystal ball. Any comments?

It still looks good to me :) I'm kind of in a hurry right now, so I didn't check very carefully for flaws or anything, but by first glance it looked just fine. And I really don't want to nag here, but as I said earlier, you could jump up to that pillar around frame 7000 without falling down first. This would probably save around 2-3 seconds. Perhaps this could be hex-edited into the movie? I can understand you if you don't want to redo the whole movie because of this little thing. I'll watch though your movie again more carefully tomorrow when I have more time, and try to find other things to nag about, hehe ;) Good luck with your next WIP!

You still haven't collected a single S-coin. You have to have full mighty power (green) to pick them up. You can get the sphinx in the round 12 maze quicker if you change to orange and jump up through the 3 visible chests. From there you should be able to land on the invisible chest above the sphinx and only open those two. When you power-up to green, see if there's any mighty coin chests nearby that you could walk through while green or orange, since it's much quicker than jumping to open them. Sometimes this glitches and you won't pick up the item, but you can probably avoid that by coming in from the right angle. Also, if you find 3 or more mighty coins near each other, it might be worth it to change to orange and get them all that way. If there's an orange chest you need to open, 2 nearby coins would be worth it.

Now this is just freaking great!!! I guess I'm not going to finish this video. So if someone would like to do a TAS of this game, go ahead. This TAS is offically CANCELED

So you're too mad to finish because you wasted your time because you failed to read this post?

To Guybrush: You shouldn't get so discouraged because of a setback. There are all sorts of mistakes to make. Chances are your first version of the movie wouldn't be perfect. Usually before making the full movie, you should go through the game normally just to make sure that the path works the way that you expect. As you go through the game, you find all sorts of little tricks to make it better. I'm sorry that you get so upset. I hope that you reconsider. To Kapow: That is a very nice map. What is the rabbit room that you have marked? Is that that strange empty room? What is it for? What does it do? You should post your map to gamefaqs so other people playing the game will see it.

Guybrush, you need to research, plan, and practice before attempting a TAS. Set the route, do a demo run, then play it through perfectly.

Just left of the entrance is an invisible chest with a rabbit face item that gives you a 1-up. It's the only object in that room and it doesn't appear anywhere else in the game. There's already a 1-up item, the E-coin, so I'm not sure if the rabbit does anything else or if it's just an easter egg.

It's also mentioned in the manual, which was linked a couple times in this thread.

Yeah Guybrush don't give up. Take a break from it for a while then come back and try again.

This was a sad surprise... Please reconsider, Guybrush. I was really looking forward to this, and I know a lot of other people were too, as you can see. So as daniayaw and Tailz said, take a break and clear your head from this for a while. I know it can be a pain to have to redo a run, but that happens quite often... At least for me :) But believe me when I say this, the ending result is almost always worth it. Your run so far shows great quality and creative solutions to the puzzles, don't let this drawback stop you from making this run! So please, Guybrush, don't give up on this yet! I really hope you change your mind and continue this. *casts "charm" on Guybrush and tells him to continue this* ;)

i think it makes no sense to visit all rooms, it should be just "gets best ending as fast as possible". yea i too was kinda hoping that you would finish it... maybe you only need a break from it. do it like they said, play through normally without slowdown, just to decide what is the best route. that shouldn't take long. then you start over and do it optimized.

Yes, I think many know these problems, that you get frustrated sometimes while doing a good speedrun. I have need too for some month a break while doing a speedrun to get new energy and motivation. And I make too errors in speedruns and must sometimes begin it new. In the moment I try my 3rd Final Fantasy Adventure Speedrun, because 1st was bad, 2nd was not good and now I hope I know much more how all work. And the 3rd one have I started a second time too, to finish faster the first Boss. Boomer's Adventure in Asmik World must I start too a second time, because I was not as fast as possible by my first try, have not know at the first time how Frame Advance exact work. Later I must restart some Stages, because I found a new trick which helped me to defeat Bosses in the half of the time. So I think many Runners know such situations, that you get frustrated and must start again. But you always learn new things when do a new run or restart a run. I hope too, that you will finish this run. And I wish you the best for this one when you try it.

Okay! I'll take a break and continue later! (I think it's going to be a looong break) But I'd like to do run of some other game but, I don't know which. I first thought about some Rockman but, I came to a decision that I could never beat those records. Could you tell me some fun games to do a TAS??

There are a few tips on games that don't have a TAS yet here Another thing you can do is go to www.gamefaqs.com and go scroll through their lists of games. They have sorted them after genre, so perhaps you can find something you like there! Oh, and there is a thread in the NES forum that discuss games that haven't been done yet, you may find something there. Here is the thread: Top games that haven't been done yet (for NES) There could also be similiar thread for other consoles, perhaps you can find them if you search around some. I can't come up with any game in particular at the moment, it depends a lot on what console you're planning to do a run for. I hope these tips help out, and that you don't take a too long break from this. Good luck! :)

What differences would this make? If the only differences between collecting the S-coins and not collecting the S coins is that you get the best ending when collecting all of the S coind, I, personally, would want to see all S-coins collected. I would rather see a movie that is 15 seconds longer, if it gets all S-coins and thus the best ending. This is of course, if the S-coins are not way out of the way. But if getting the S-coins doesn't waste any noticable amount of time, I suggest you get them. But this is just my opinion.

I'm not on the mood of redoing the best-ending run right now, so I thought I make a run which is almost as the best-ending run but faster. I won't collect the crystal balls (this makes the video much faster because I don't have go to the maze), Or s-coins (makes the movie a lot easier to make because I don't have to take all those mighty-coins, and it's faster too). So, what do you think?

Sounds fine. This ending will be different from your previous run right?
