As discussed on adelikat and angerfist's megaman 6 submission thread. I can agree with both sides there, as i had submissions that were improvements over older movies which were clearly publishing material but never got published, so i learned to see that this site is run by people who work a lot to make the site work but sometimes use personal judging for whether they should start encoding a submission or not. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just how things work here, so what i did was create a dirty little webpage so my runs can be viewed when i want to link to my friends etc. That's all, i learned to live with it.

Truncated wrote this in the mm6 thread:
I can agree with josh l. Having your work stuck in limbo forever can be disheartening. I just recently got promoted to judge, so this weekend I'll try to do something the oldest submission and go on a judging spree. Now, I think this discussion should be taken elsewhere and not in this submission thread.
This is what I have been hoping someone would do for a long time now. Some of these submission have been there over a year, I think its time someone give them priority. I applaud your effort.

FODA, Truncated is doing exactly what you are requesting/suggesting. He's recently been promoted to a judge.

I don't know anything about the resources needed to publish movies on this site, so I won't complain about the slowness. But as for judging by wether or not a game is interesting, I think it is a very subjective thing. For me at least a lot of what makes a game interesting is having played it ten years ago, then forgot about it, then finding it again on this site. It could be the crappiest game out there, but some enjoyment can still be had by going back and seeing that ending that you never could get. So I think its very different to judge based on wether or not it looks to be the fastest it can be, or if it is a good game to speedrun.

Should quotas be created... Like getting a minimum of votes to have your run published... (Maybe it's a silly idea...) Though I do not complain about slowness... it's true that I was a bit over-excited when i submitted my first movie but I also understood that judges and publishers are busy and cannot handle all that submission list... I have waited for my run to be published for about three months but it has finally been published and I'm happy... though people are waiting since an incredibly long time so i do not feel like complaining... Maybe I should apply as a judge... And let's just hope that this site will continue on like this as I love it (and I know I'm not the only one...)

Yea but sometimes i feel that judges don't think there's anything worth publishing on the queue while some runs are clear major improvements over already published runs...

Yeah I've also been waiting for more people to be appointed judges (or as previously discussed, "rejectors"). I've been ready to take action for months, I'm glad that something's happening, and I'm glad the appointed judge is Truncated because he seems like a very fitting person for the job in terms of motivation and objectivity etc.

I think that 10 yes-votes should be more than enough to draw the judges attention and have it concidered ASAP for publication.

Nothing happens if you don't ask. Truncated asked, and he was the right person asking at the right time (and, the right way). More information: http://tasvideos.org/Users.html

You should go for it Kyrsimys. Become a judge! You are well respected member of this site, you have good eye for entertainment and you are fair and just! The quality control message you wrote is very good. It's shows you value the good quality of movies. I'll vote for Kyrsimys to be a judge.

I just saw Users Page, Only 6 Judges? It's look strange. Approximately lmost 150+ submission are in pending, so it's impossible to work faster for 6 judges over 150+ submission. There should be more judges as well as publishers. Also we can make a rule if a movie got 20+ (or something) votes. it will get published. Some timeattacks still requires descriptions as well as new screenshots at many places. There is lot more work to do. Simple work can be done by various user (Adding screen shots & So..) people should come and join different work at this site, so the site will go faster....

That's not a good idea. And here's why: -Ballot stuffing -Possibility of Caucuses Forming -Publishing of Movies that don't follow the rules -Publishing of Movies that don't meet quality standards, but are popular games -"You can't vote on being right" -Popularity of site increases making every movie have 20 votes (even if they have 100 no votes) -Popularity of site decreases making every movie not have 20 votes -Even if a movie has 20 votes someone still has to encode it.

I guess my problem is that i feel people are smart enough to decide for themselves whether or not a run is fun to watch or not, and if its boring they'll stop watching it or fast forward to where its good again. By voting on entertainment value it is like judging for the non-registered or non-emulator savvy users without letting them judge for themselves. For the most popular games entertainment should be a factor tho I think or when distinguishing between equally fast runs. edit - i should clarify between a good game done boringly (should be rejected) or a game done well that people say 'this game looks boring, voted no' (if its done well should be accepted).

Well, not really. I wrote all missing NES/SNES descriptions a while ago (can't get VBA to work properly). By my count there are only two movies lacking dscriptions and only one lacking a screenshot. So it's not like the site is falling apart :) About asking to become a judge, I don't know. I don't have very much free time, and I don't yet know if I want to use it by watching crappy submissions. We'll see.

The fact that there are so few judges is really strange... I mean, there are a lot of people here on this forum and still there are only 6 judges...

I have now rejected some of the oldest submissions - Flintstones 2, Actraiser 2, Hook, and Shaq Fu (which was not that old but deserved it anyway). Ring King and Tom Sawyer are currently very close to joining that gang. I have accepted three movies which were clear improvements over previously published versions - Gods, Strider, and El Viento. Now we only have to hope that someone will take the time to encode them. Any other suggestions of what I should look at next? If not, I'll just keep on working my way backwards trough the queue.

some suggestions : remove the submissions (by rejecting them) of movies that have been already improved and re-submitted. easy to tell which by sorting the submission queue by author or better, by game name. specifically the cameltry movies : SNES Cameltry in 04:37 by Simon Andersson (hadock) is better than SNES Cameltry in 05:47 by Simon Andersson (hadock) and SNES Cameltry in 06:31 F.Y (fuzi2) the older submissions deserve both the "rejected in favor of a faster submission" decision. couldn't find any other, or I might be blind. hope it helps.

few other easy rejections: NES Dragon Quest 2 (J) - choco mint - this was never really submitted for publication but rather a reference for (hopefully) a future run. NES Dragon Buster (J) - Dimon - didn't finish the game, author got to what he thought was the ending but it is just a cut scene and there are several more levels and possibly: NES Crash & Boys Street Challenge - Guanabowl according to posts the movie is ended to soon (more input required to complete the game) SNES Super Earth Defense force - jc got poor voting results, (worth reading the opinions and deciding for yourself though)

I started from the bottom of the voting results this time, and I already took care of Dragon Buster and Crash. It seems like the DQ2 movie is an easy target too, but it wouldn't feel right to reject the movie without at least watching it, which I can't. But I think it's safe to say that it will never get published anyway, so I won't let that technicality stop me.

While you are on a rejecting spree, take a look at these: #715: KameZa's NES Monster in my pocket in 20:20 Genesis DJ Boy in 18:55 author aims for low re-record counts ?! - 574 (automatically calculated) sliverjazz's SNES NBA Hangtime in 14:05 – sports game blowout

Actually fuzi2's run of Cameltry is much faster, it's only longer because it chooses a higher difficulty and plays many more levels. But I think it should be rejected anyway because it uses a glitch that makes it boring to watch.

>Actually fuzi2's run of Cameltry is much faster, it's only longer because it chooses a higher difficulty Hm, really? I was afraid it was something like that, but the other two movie states they were played at the highest difficulty too. Which way is it? I'll unreject fuzi2's run if that's the case.
