I was messing around with the ZSNES emulator today, and I discovered a technique that can be used to see in pitch black areas in games. By disabling "New GFX Support" from the options menu I was able to achieve this "night vision" effect in dark areas of ALttP's Hyrule Tower and DKC's Blackout Basement Level: I tested this on ZSNES version 1.36. This may be useful when doing time attacks or practising speedruns in completely dark sections of games.

Well thx for this hint I'm sure it is not the only game that this thing works.

You can also turn off the layer that the darkness is on, usually.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

some games have hidden things behind the layers, like in prince of persia on the princess room, if u disable the columns you can see an "alpha" letter, and on streets of rage 2, the sprite for the credit simbol is something very messed up (it's hidden on the alien stage under the moving head)

Looks like someone wasn't using SNES emulators back in the day where you couldn't play a game without constantly flipping layers.

Heh, I remember way back then. Enter a foggy or misty area and the masses would panic as there was nothing to be seen!

I remember trying to play Final Fantasy 5 and I finally realized I could disable the water layer so it was actually possible to get through the ship graveyard. :P

I actually got through there once without disabling the layers. Took me a heck of a long time just wandering back and forth with no way to tell which way I was going, but I did it.

The only experience I have with something like this is when I was watching the Terranigma super video. You needed an older version of zsnes to keep it in sync, and I couldn't see through a sandstorm layer.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

What's the Terranigma super video? I'm a huge fan of the game, but I don't know about any super video.
