Hmm, I just tried that (watching whole thing from start in that version with fast-forwarding the whole time until the world 7 ship) and it still played fine. Oh well, I guess it'll stay a mystery for now... (Are you really, absolutely sure you didn't load any save states?) Anyway, this is looking pretty great, and likely to be finished soon. Have fun with killing Bowser as fast as (or faster than) Genisto did.

Desync'ed for me as well. Mario dies just before fighting the world 7 boss. I am using FCEU 0.98.13 and Super Mario Bros. 3 (U) (PRG1) [!].nes. I ended up fast-forwarding up until the ending point of the last WIP.

Could you clarify what you mean by "I ended up" - after it desynced you fast-forwarded from the start and it worked then? What did you did instead of that when it did desync? (Or do you mean you fast-forwarded from the start and that's when it happened?) edit: BTW, I'm quite sure that using regular speed or fast-forward makes no difference whatsoever. I think it's just something with loading bad savestates, either that or you are doing something unusual when playing the movie.

Or did you fast-forward from a savestate that was a previous ending point?

Wouldn't it be easier to use the Cloud on the Castle in world 8? Because it seems to me that it would be the longest of the levels, aside from the tanks and ship. And besides, in 8-2, there is a shortcut. You should experiment with that a little bit.

He already said he is gonna use it in 8-f (fortress) and this is the rom name i'm using to view: Super Mario Bros 3 (U) (PRG 1).nes

What I meant by "I ended up" was "The method I used to view the new portion of the movie"

I'm doing so; I had 2 clouds left. If I only had one cloud, though, it would save more time to use it on 7-4 than 8-F. Of the skippable levels after getting the last cloud in World 6, besides 7-4, 8-F was the longest. And 8-2's shortcut is not shorter, just easier.

World 8 complete. Included save file starts at World 8. The reason I haven't submitted it is because there's a problem in my Bowser battle. World 8 in general was a huge pain; I'm basically ending up with a sub-par copy of Genisto's run. I'm wondering if anyone knows how Genisto's Bowser battle has Bowser do five little hops before his big jump, because I'm getting only four no matter what I've tried. This is why Bowser jumps before I have a chance to kill him. I'm only 11 frames slower on the kill, but since Bowser is so high in the air, he takes longer to fall as well, so I'm 52 frames behind in total. If I can't figure it out, then I'll end up submitting this run, as it does look pretty cool, and it's still reasonably quick. Edit: Figured it out, I think. Edit again: Definitely figured it out. I'll be submitting the run shortly.

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this, but I'm getting an error when submitting: "FCM error: Movie does not begin with a reset". My run When this run is loaded in the emulator, it says that it is recorded from reset. What am I doing wrong? Perhaps this is related to incompatibilities with the new emulator version and the submission coding?

I guess you didn't have a reset. Better start all over.

Ask someone to hex-edit it to flag as "power-on". I would do that if i knew how to..

Here: smb3_jxq_poweron.fcm. This one starts from power-on, and so far it hasn't desynced on me.

I tried converting to fmv with nesmock but fmv doesn't seem to distinguish between reset and power-on, so I don't know how to do this. Stupid compressed FCM. Thanks Hanzou, if you could fix the author info, etc. that would be greatly appreciated. I played the run through and it didn't desync.

Ok. I've fixed the author name (sorry Food), md5, etc. for the movie linked in my above post. The only thing I couldn't change back was the 'Emulator Used' attribute, due maybe to a bug in nesmock.

I'm a noob here, but my cousin was playing smb3 and found if the screen changes on the overworld and your on a hammer bro right after it scrolls over you don't go into the fight. I'm not sure if it could be used, but i'm just trying to help out here.

I was hoping that I could show off that bug somewhere in World 3, 4, or 6, but it just didn't work out to where I needed to do it. In World 3, it happened that I needed to fight the hammer brother that I screen-scrolled onto, so I did some different randomness because it takes 9 or 10 frames of extra waiting to make the fight happen anyway. Thanks though!

I feel its neccesary to post this here. I did have planned to do a 100% SMB3 run. But after watching this video, it seems that my movie would be really repititive of JXQ's movie. The only difference would be alot of auto-scrollers, and a couple new levels and powers here and there. Plus my movie would be longer, thus probably not as entertaining. So i decided to not do the run, as i feel this run is good enough for the game without the flute.

Sorry to hear that, Vatchern, because I would love to see a 100% of this game. I think most people that play a game like Mario 3 try to do 100% completion when they play. Or, at least, everyone I know personally does when they play it. Not to mention the stylistic differences the run would contain are sure to keep me interested.

But what about those levels where you're supposed to go into a cave, but instead you can use the corner trick to go through it, so you really don't see any of the level at all?

I know it does sound like a bummer. But i think the No warps run is good enough for the site.
