That makes it even stranger, as I still get a 404: Not Found The requested URL /~erk/Megaman7-Gigafrost-V4.zip was not found on this server. Apache/1.3.19 Server at www.kraftfam.org Port 80 Edit: Err yeah, and i'm not talking about the demo, that link works fine.

Oh, that's the link you're trying to access? It no longer exists on the server (over the summer we switched our html server over to a faster computer with more disk space...the disk drive died about a month ago...) In any case, that link is to my first (obsolete) version. I didn't provide a link to the second version before because I submitted it, but I'll put it up here... http://www.kraftfam.org/~erk/mm7Gigafrost.zip

You can get both of Junk Man's items (Rush Jet and S) in one trip. Just kill yourself after getting one of the items.
Yeah, just position yourself when freezing the waterfall so the bottom-right shard hits the piece of junk and not the acid. Also, I'm thinking it could be faster to buy the exit device from Auto...

Very well done, looks great. Two things I wonder about(without reviewing this entire thread): Could luck manipulation be used on bosses such as Freeze Man to keep them from getting out of reach? Could you use the Rush whatnot in Slash Man's level on the series of ladders?

Well, Freeze Man's attacks are freeze the floor, make icicles, freeze cracker in that order; and he seems to keep that order. You can manipulate how much he runs around between the attacks, but it usually doesn't vary enough to make a difference. Super adaptar? Yeah (check out Gigafrost's first version), but apparently it doesn't save the 300 or so frames it takes to equip/unequip it.

Freeze Man apparently has a luck aspect (because of a failed hex-edit attempt) but I haven't figured out exactly how it works because it's not obvious to me when it comes into play...although my best guess atm is that it determines at some point in the battle where in his script he'll start, perhaps. I've definately got the impression that once he sets into a pattern he repeats it. About the only control you have (that I found) is which side of him you're on when he starts running since he runs at you after landing. Although I could be mistaken about this. For Slash Man's stage and the Rush Adaptor part, basically I gained time in the first room by not putting it on, lost time in the second room by not having it on, and lost time at the top of the ladder where I originally took it off. Overall, though, I came out ahead. When I get home I'll pull up the text file and give actual numbers. :) Although perhaps you were talking about using the Rush Coil to go up ladders? I actually want to address this as well (just in case, but for other reasons as well). I measured switching to the Rush Coil at 91 frames. In Freeze Man's stage, the two screen-transition-then-immediately-grab-ladder parts can both be done without the coil but they're 10-20 frames slower. In other words, I'm saying that switching to Rush Coil actually costs you 60 frames at that point unless you're going to be using it later in the level anyways (then it saves you the 30 frames). At least that's what I measured. Turning that around to Slash Man's stage, if one were to use the Rush Coil perhaps they can save more time before they can get the full height out of the coil but I must admit I didn't test this. My results from Freeze Man's stage sort of developed an intuition (that might be wrong) that the Rush Coil wasn't as ladder-beneficial as I might have previously thought. (In my first run, I was using 91 frames to switch out of the Rush Adaptor anyways, though, so hmmm...)

Sorry I wasn't more specific on which Rush unit, heh. I meant using the Rush Adaptor at 20:50. It seems this is the area you're talking about, so I'll check out the numbers. I wasn't referring to the Rush Coil but that's interesting.

Ho hum. *checks* Non-Super Adapter is approximately 121 frames faster. My gut reaction on Rush Coil is it won't be faster, mainly because you're gonna need to take care of that... floor enemy thing on the way up. Without it, it could be a couple frames faster.

Looking at my text file it's not as detailed at that part as I remembered. It doesn't appear to be telling me exactly how much time I gained on other parts of the level before the crucial Rush Adaptor part. However, I think I can guarantee that I didn't drop 168 frames in that first room, hehehe.
75046 - Climbing first ladder (211 frames) 75290 - Climbing second ladder (84 frames) 75517 - Falling to first dinosaur (168 frames)

Hoo, finally maxed out Junk Man's stage (I hope). http://tinister.khakain.com/TinisterMM7smv.zip Now to figure out how to do the rest of the game without the Super Adapter without losing the 21-22 seconds I gained.

Wow, it's coming along really well. Heh, and you even made the Burst Man battle entertaining. Excellent! 21-22 seconds...it sounds do-able. :) Oh... I don't remember if you're doing Shade Man or Slash Man next. All I recall is having an idea (that I don't remember ;_;) about how to handle Slash Man that might make him easier. Well, I think I'll be interested to see the run either way. :)

Is there any way to avoid slashman jumping off the screen?

Short of discovering some sort of glitch, no. It's because he automatically does it when he's lost enough health (well, after he lands, but even trying to take advantage of that doesn't help because he's invincible while he's jumping up).

Wow, despite not having Noise Crush or Scorch Wheel, Rush Jet allowed me to pick up another 5.5 seconds in Slash Man's stage. So I'm at like what, 27 seconds saved by not collecting Super Adapter? I'll never waste that much, bweeee.

Well, I've started to make a new run of this game. Here's my progress so far. The intro stage is as fast as tinister's (except the boss which is only a test) but I have to test a new strategy for it. All kind of help is very welcome here.

Good to see that you're trying this game. I suggest starting with Cloud Man. Freeze Man is faster to beat with his weak weapon than Cloud Man with his weak weapon. Plus, you can get Rush Jet earlier. I also suggest you alternate uncharged shots from a distance and charged shots up close, a method that is often seen in Mega Man games where you can charge up.

Maybe these would save time. Haven't tested though. www.soldatcentral.net/bablo/rusinat/mm7.png www.soldatcentral.net/bablo/rusinat/mm7-1.png www.soldatcentral.net/bablo/rusinat/mm7-2.png

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/856/MM%20VII%20Guybrush%20%26%20Adelikat%20Bass%20defeated.smv here is the intro level with Bass defeated. Unfortunately we are tied with Tinister up this point. It is of interest to note that megman walks to a scrpted place after the fight, but it is not faster to already be in that position (unfortunately for me since I took great pains to place megaman there in my test runs!) Also if you are on the right of Bass, megaman will go onto the right side of the screen instead of the left, but that ends up slower because he has a greater distance to walk to the center in order to teleport off the screen

I've done with Cloudman stage now and I was 27 frames slower there because I didn't have all the weapons that you had Tinister. Now we just have to wait for Adelikat to finish the boss *pokes Adelikat*. I'm glad you're interested :)
