control is used for Magic Dragon only as far as i can remember... i havent played in a while though. and L2 Old is very needed in the run.
Well, I learned Lv2 Old with the tricksters, though I also used Control (+ Mix to reflect the magic...). I think I could had look for a fight with the Wallknight to avoid the mix, but I'm just testing out strat :P

maybe you could avoid the Val Basement scenario... im really not sure anymore.
Well, I'm sure you don't need to get all the abilities there. You can get some good ABP points in quick/easy boss battles, like with the Hiryuu Plant...

also, i dont know how many rods would be used and such. Archeoavis changes elements so it throws calculations off a bit. you can mentally add up that number though by reading through... i think i make note of it.
Well, I used 4 fire rods + 4 ice rods, followed by Lv 5 Doom. I'm sure is ANY kind of rod, followed by a different kind of rod...

if someone would pick up where i left off and go through and refine the walkthru (ive got too much going on currently), it might help. i appreciate your working on this goroh, just as a sort of back up testing.
Well, I never finished detailing my LLG faq (I still have the file where I left :P), but I could mention more detailed the strat you posted ;) (Like the level you are, abilities learned, time, etc...) Edit: I just passed world 2 with 3 hrs 50 min & didn't even fought Carbuncle :( Edit 2: Just about entering the warp to the cleft of dimensions with 4 hrs 19 mins. I lost some time running out of Fenix Downs for the Mummies (though I see that missile works...). BTW, I did the Skipping Leena glitch in order to access Mirage Town a little bit earlier. I'm sure you don't lose much time & maybe could even be slighty faster (Though, I dunno how to test this :( ) Edit 3:

You'll need to use Dark Shock twice or level him up 10 levels, then a single Dark Shock, but the strat does works :)

Catastroph is next -Before battle, put a Wall Ring on someone and Float (oops, running shoes not definite) -in battle, Dark Shock and Level 5 Death
You don't need to obtain the Wall rings at all. You'll be fast enought to kill him before he damages you. (Though I had 1 Thief with Blue ability...). Oh, and you need to float, so his unique command will be Gravity 100...

It does work :D Edit n+1: Just before entering the Void, my time was 4 hrs 35 min. I lost some time because I was lacking in items, I needed to beat Apocalypse & use 2 cottages in order to heal... 4 minutes later, I got ready to fight against Ex-death (already saw the cinema). To bad I ran out of Maiden Kiss for the mix, but that doesn't matter much, at least not to me :P

Actually they used Playstation 2 and Fast Loading (or something like that) feature.

Well, in my current attempt for a speed run, I got around +1 ½ hrs more than that time, though I lost some time several times... When the TAS run gets made (which I expect to :P), I think it can barely gets to 4 hrs rounded. That if you manipulate really good the fights... BTW /*- , I got Golem but never used it, so you won't ever need to call/get an Esper, nor learn any song... I'm sure you'll neither need to buy weapons/armors at all, with the exception of the rods of course. Maybe you'll need to buy some shields from time to time (for the evade), but you can grab some shields from chests at World 2, though it's kind of late...

yes, shields are VERY helpful. but its only at the end, so you could stop by mirage and just grab a few instead. the only shields i grabbed were Aegis in the Mua Forest and the few in ExDeath's Castle (i think there was more than one). i originally got Aegis for Galuf, but that wasnt really needed. Golem... i was thinking of him for Halicarnaso since thats mainly what Hali (and yes, we know each other well enough to use pet names; he calls me "cheating bastard") uses (Kurururu and then a buttload of Physical and eventually some support spells or HOLY). this is out of my hands as far as im concerned; im swamped with work as of late, and cant offer much more aside from moral support. one thing i would like to know... or a few... the ABP in Val castle... what was learned and what was left to learn via boss battles? im thinking Control and Mix (mix is MUCH more important) and then perhaps a gradual learning of Hide; since thats reserved for Twin Tania. armors... if any can effect evade or magic rate success, then those might be advisable. im not sure... i just had a LOT of trouble with Apprehender because of it (bastards All Party attacks were murderously hard to manipulate into NOT getting). ok, enough rambling.

Well for what I saw, you just need 1 person with Control & 1 person with Conceal. You don't need to see what attack does Twin Tania does, that's what save states are for ;) (besides, I think he charges for the Giga Flare in his 5th attack, though I would need to confirm it :P). You'll most likely have 1 shot as the other members will die, but it doesn't matter... As for Control, I only needed it in order to learn Lv 2 Old. You'll learn it either with the Tricksters at the Barrier Tower, or later on with a Magic Dragon at Exdeath's Castle. I think we should investigate if we can learn the spell using another method, like charming the enemy... Oh, I didn't needed to use the Hairpin (Hair Ornament) at all, I even sold it to buy a ring I also didn't used XD, so the fight against the Red Dragon at the Barrier Tower should be avoidable... (Well I was "Over Leveled", around Lv 15 there :P) BTW, I wanted to do another run, skipping all unnecesary stuff I did, like performing the Steal Glitch only twice, 1 for Ethers (which you'll keep some) & the other for Dark Matters (for the mix). Counting how much ABP does the bosses gives you (to reduce time in Bal Castle) & so on...

well, it appears from the algorithm guide that the magic dragon may indeed be able to execute this all by his lonesome
AI SCRIPT:
Fight
{Aero 3,Fight,Specialty}
Fight
{GuardOff,L2 Old,Nothing}
im not sure if that means he reacts to fight or what... i tried investigating... im sure someone will be around soon enough to belittle me and provide complete and accurate information. i cant say the same for trickster/tricker...
AI SCRIPT:
{Fight,L4 Qrter,Nothing}
so it may just be taking different actions inside battle. try different commands and such... defend or change rows, etc. and i figured red dragon should be avoided... i read the bestiary wrong once more.

Lucky me that I still had my LLG save files. (It was before fighting Exdeath on the 2nd world...) I just enconter some Magic Dragons & seems that you don't need to get Control after all, they do attack you with Lv 2 Old... That will cut some time :D

heres the ABP link over at RPGClassics http://rpgclassics.com/shrines/snes/ff5/ap.shtml the battles after Archeoavis (and the "last" job set) start at 454 w/KimraBrain. the pickings are pretty slim, and dont forget that some bosses wont be as flexible as others. but this may help with gaining certain job levels, at least by calculating ABP. it may or may not help, and i may or may not have linked before.

^ Yea, you posted the link before... BTW, I was thinking that since you'll use Mix several times just for Doom Potions, maybe it would be better to get some Doom Axes (or whatever they called) for the same effect. Though, you'll still need mix for Exdeath... (Maybe it's not worthy after all, as you'll get the Axes as dropped item, so that may slow you down, but it's a though...) Also, I was thinking that maybe Conceal could be skipable, you could equip an Ice Shield + Coral Ring to survive some of Twin Tania Attacks & heal for the other attacks... Anyway, I'll play again & check it out by myself... Edit: Oh, I have a question, does Battle Speed set to 6 makes enemies attacks slower or faster? I think is slower, & if so, then you may wanna change it from time to time to learn Blue Magic faster & so...

set to 6, it will take longer for enemies to take turns and is necessary for a few boss battles just so they dont get off insane amounts of hits or change a lot. goroh, could you record your progress? it would just be something to see, as imperfect as it might be since its not aiming for a published movie on this site. it would still be nice to have something aside from the flow chart. i should update that BTW.

I was also going to suggest samurai goroh that he should record his progres this time. And btw, really nice ideas have been flowing in here :)
Which run should I encode next? :)

Ok, thanks. Well, maybe it is worthy when learning Blue spells... (Even if you manipulate luck, I don't think you lose time while changing settings...)

Hehe, my problem is that I haven't ever made a rerecorded movie with the Snes emulator (though I do have made a movie with Zsnes, but that's different...). I would need some pointers on how it's done, what settings should I have, which ROM to use (I have a patched one, but I think I also have the (J) version somewhere, so I could get an specific patch...), version of the emulator used, etc. Another problem is that my CPU is damn old (IIRC, 8 years old, Cyrix proccesor, with 80 Mb of RAM & no video card), so dunno if that would create some desync on the movie (though I doubt it). I have to play on an old version of Zsnes (0.991 to be exact), because the Windows version runs slowly :( Edit: I remember now trying to record a Kirby Super Star movie, but it was kind of confusing, so I quit. (I wanted to do an Arena run for myself...) BTW, I'm detailing (plus adding mor info) of the walkthru you made /*- . I'll post a section when I get to the 2nd world (I've just beaten Death Claw with exactly 1 hr in the clock - which I think is good - dunno how fast was Boco on her run, though)

Pre-emptive Attack! This is a testrun of Final Fantasy 5, which completes the Wind Shrine, 4185 frames (nearly 70 seconds) faster than Boco's testrun. I'm going by /*-'s walkthrough at this point in time, though I might deviate slightly depending on how some tests come out. Notes on this run: - I name the main character "Tilus" (or at least as close as "Tilus" gets in kana). Given how few times the main character's name appears in the script, this won't lose nearly as much time as one might think, so I'm not naming him "A" or anything else short and silly. I have considered going back to Battsu/Butz/Bartz, his "default" and more official name, though, and might go back and do it if people request it. - Like many SNES speedrunners, I upgraded to snes9x improvement 9, with the memory viewer, and have attempted to experiment with it to try to find a way to manipulate the distance between random battles inside caves/dungeons. Extensive searching and testing has come up with no solution, not even a counter which counts up or down the distance remaining until a random battle. After looking back, the distance between my run and Boco's between battles (and even the formations encountered!) is eerily similar, so chances are this may not be manipulateable at all, instead possibly being called off a set and unchangeable encounter list, not unlike FF1. Anyone with assembly knowledge want to take a look into how this works? - The time it takes to run away from battles in this testrun is slightly inconsistant, which while fast seems to have as much as a second of variance in between escapes. I haven't attempted to manipulate this variance down in this testrun. - There's about 120 frames (2 seconds) delay when you try to run right through the save point in the Wind Shrine, which includes the "ding!" and the text explaining what save points do. Considering I'll lose a couple dozen frames for every save point I attempt to run around, I'm pretty convinced that doing this will eventually save time in the long run. - I attempted even more extensively to try to decrease the amount of time it takes to win the Wingraptor battle. I went through a couple hundred frames of manipulation scattered around the several moments of input in a futile attempt to manipulate in a critical hit, with no success (which leaves me wondering, is it even possible for knives and swords to critical in this game? I can't recall the last time I've seen one critical), and given the peaks of damage I could be dealing with my weapons, attempting to win this battle in any fewer than nine hits, without a critical hit, isn't possible. So, I just go ahead and input as fast as possible. Though, if anyone with assembly knowledge wants to try and verify or deny whether swords and knives can critical or not, feel free. - I made Faris the thief right off, to save a little bit of time by only having to change three characters to black mages before Karlabos. This might be cutting things a bit close with the HP, but I should be fine. If there's any comments/questions/concerns/etc that anyone has with the run, feel free to comment away.

This game and FF6 are supposed to be very similar code-wise. For example, the overworld map. Mimic was an extensive special case in FF6's code and although I know very little about FF5, I have a hunch it was mostly left over from that game. I also have a hunch that these two features are implemented the same in both games. Terii Senshi has a very long explanation in his FF6 Algorithms FAQ. The short answer is that no, you cannot manipulate either without doing something much earlier in a much different way so as to get the random number index in a different place. And even then, formations are hardly random. In FF6 the lack of formation randomness is due to duplicate random formations and due to there only being a total of 16 possible 'ways' to initiate a battle. Exhaustively testing each possible result of their random number generator and not getting a single satisfactory result when the code technically allows it annoys me.

They cannot. Only certain weapons can crit (including katana and, umm, arrows?)
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

Hey Tilus, I'm adding some info in /*- FAQ, I was planning to post it all together when I finished, but if you're already doing the (J) run, I think you should know what I'm doing in my test run... About manipulating random battles, if I'm not mistaken, the only way is to save & reset the game, so it's not worthy... Notes: Time: Is the time registered on the game before the battle started Jobs: Which jobs I used for the battle Levels: The level I was before the battle Strat: The strat used on the battle Commands: How many commands I used to end the battle ABP: ABP won after battle

Note: The latest updates will be on the next link: http://tasvideos.org/SamuraiGoroh/FFVWalkthruPlan.html WALKTHRU OUTLINE Notes Before Starting: - When you gain control, set config to the following: * Battle Mode to Active - (so actions can take place during someone taking a turn) ** Battle Speed to 3 - (because it affects how fast the enemy can take a turn, very important!) Text/Message Speed to 1 - (for quick conversations) Command Set to Short - (You can choose any command with only 1 button, instead of sometimes 2) Cursor to Memory - (because repetetive menu scrolling gets irritating) Leave Reequip as Optimum - (Remember that sometimes certain item will equip to the person you don't want, but that doesn't happens often) * Setting it to WAIT will alter how time passes in the battle. on ACTIVE, selecting a command and waiting out for a certain frame to determine its success rate is generally how its done. on WAIT, its done from when the command is selected. (On my WIP I used WAIT all the time...) ** Just tested & you'll do fine with Wingrapter if you leave it as 3... (And you should also do in any other battle...) - Keep at least 1 person a Thief as often as possible to Dash in dungeons. Dash sounds nice, but it'd end up wasting time as it takes an ability space. (Though I used it once at the Void :P) - Equip FLEE or SMOKE for one person ASAP. there will be some battles you have trouble running from immediately. this is where those skills come in to play. FLEE is much quicker than SMOKE. - On the world map, you can avoid random battles. a step before you are set to encounter a battle, simply bring up the menu (X) and then exit back out. it resets your encounter rate. this DOES NOT work in dungeons though. There are rarely times when this won't work, in my run it happened two or three times... (Though some battles where ment to be encountered...) - Remember that on the world map, walking thru the Forest, you'll fight earlier than where there's not. Take that into advantage to trigger (or avoid) fights. - Stay in the backrow at all times (well, beyond the Wing Raptor). seriously. you cant afford to take damage like you would normally, and most attacks are crippling magic or mixes. - If at all possible when in menu screens, try to plan ahead with Rod usage. keep them closer to the top of the items list and maybe even equip a future used rod then to avoid biting the dust sooner than expected. - ^ that also goes for items that will be used in battle (like mixes) - Don't grab any chest unless pointed (you wanna travel light :P ) - Rods or Scrolls - Scrolls are cheaper, but remember your Magic Power effects their power. so Rods might be better for the job (only Ninjas can THROW scrolls; anyone can break). the infinite item glitch will make money problems less and less severe, so cost won't greatly affect this decision (at least after Karnak). My WIP movie World 1 - From Wind Shrine to Ancient Library World 1 - From Ancient Library to the warp of World 2 World 2 World 3 & the Void You'll need to apply RPGe's patch ver 1.10 to the Japanese ROM, I just soft patched it (meaning that I renamed the ips file as the game...) Oh, if you wondered what I did in the missing 17 minutes, you can just observe Tilus' file, but don't apply the patch (otherwise it'll desync very soon :P) BTW, I used Snes9xw Improvement 9 to make the movie, I leaved the settings as they where initially (with Use WIP1 timming ticked only)... WORLD 1 - In Pirate's Cave, run from all battles - head to Wind Shrine immediately (Don't go to Tule) Use secret passage on boss floor, pick Broadsword (leftmost room) and equip it on Galuf *Wing Raptor Time: 0 hrs, 16 min Jobs: N/A Levels: 2/1/1/3 Strat: Attack ASAP with no mercy Commands: 9 ABP: N/A - Change Jobs to Thief/Blue/Blue/Blue, that is for Butz/Lenna/Galuf/Faris, always in that order. (Maybe you can try setting someone as Black Mage, so you don't change much jobs on the next boss fight...) - Head back to Tule. Buy Bolt Magic, *Ice Magic, and then head to Zokk's house to get the Key. *Ice magic is for the Tatu's before Northern Mountain (to level up) - SOMETIME while around Tule, fight Goblin + Bee x2 to gain Goblin Punch and the experience needed to get 2/2/2/3. If you fight Goblins x3, you'll be short in exp to level up :(. In the run I tried to trigger the battle before entering Tule, using the Forest tip ;) - Head for Canal prepare for Karlabos (Remember to be on the back row from now on) *Karlabos Time: 0 hrs, 25 min Jobs: Black/Black/Black/Black Levels: 2/2/2/3 Strat: Black magic Bolt Commands: 6 ABP: 5 Reminder: Reminder to consider leaving Faris as a Thief to control the 1st boss attack & see if the current Mg is enought to tackle him down... - In the Graveyard of Ships change jobs to Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief *Siren Time: 0 hrs 31 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 2/2/2/3 Strat: Goblin Punch Commands: 6/7 ABP: 5 Note: Remember to equip your blue mages with swords and daggers so their attacks are potent. Meaning that Faris should be unarmed. - Head to Kerwin, obtain Ice Rod & 1000 GP; head to North Mountain. Before entering the mountain, fight a formation of Tatu x2 to level up (beat it with Ice magic), you should do if before entering Kerwin if possible. The 1,000 GP is for buying an extra rod earlier (for the M-i-a-B at Karnak Castle). *Magissa Time: 0 hrs 35 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 3/3/3/4 Strat: Break the Ice Rod Commands: 2 ABP: 6 Reminder: Reminder to check if you get healed from poison after getting the Dragon, so you can just cross the flowers... - Head to Worus Castle - Basement for 2000 GP & the Elf's Cloak, then see the King (don't think its optional). Note: Try at all cost to leave the castle with everyone alive, those stupid Garkisgameras can kill you. - in Worus Tower steal a Mithril Sword (or more) from an Ice Soldier, then equip them to a Blue Mage for improving damage ^.^ . You can also steal Mithril knives from Wyverns, though they are weaker than the swords BUT still better than your current weapons (& Blue Mage can equip them to)... Try to encounter the battles naturally... It's not a must, so if you can handle Galura w/o them (and faster), do it... *Galura Time: 0 hrs, 40 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Bare Levels: 3/3/3/4 Strat: Use Gobling Punch with the Mages & paralize Galura with Faris using the whip Commands: 6 ABP: 5 (I had to skip 2 commands in order to paralize Galura, Faris was only faster than Galuf, & that not always happens...) - Change back Faris from Bare to Thief; use the Meteorite to head to Karnak. - In Karnak, head to weapon shop, buy an Ice Rod and get arrested; come back and buy 5 more Ice Rods. Then, head outside to the Fire Ship. I sold the whip, but maybe you could still use it to paralize other enemies... Note: I grabbed the Thief Ring, it took around 31 secs, but it increases the speed & defense (not to mention also the Steal rate)... Also grabbed the Fenix Down & Elixir, which could be skipped with better luck manipulation, I guess... *Liquid Flame Time: 0 hrs, 51 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 3/3/3/4 Strat: Break the 2 rods (beware of the hand transform, avoid it at all cost) Commands: 3 ABP: 6 - Back in the castle, heal using the Pot & get out immediately. Just Grab 2 out of 3 chest that contains 2000 GP each before you get out. - Get the Ribbon from a M-i-a-B figth. It will level you up & you'll most likely equip it when you don't use jobs... Note: You might rather leave someone that died that way, so it doesn't takes Exp. from the next boss battle. Besides, you can use the pot at the Ancient Library instead. *Iron Claw (Transform of Sergeant) w/3 Wild Nacks Time: 0 hrs, 55 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 5/4/4/5 Strat: Break an Ice rod & wait 'til he transforms & learn Death Claw before breaking the other rod. Commands: 7 ABP: 3 - New jobs (now you can use the infinite item trick for lots of Rods, but wait until you have the Black Chocobo) - Don't revive him, just head to Ancients Library & use the pot instead. Buy 2 more Ice rods & Mithril Shields for everyone (You'll have to sell some unnecesary items, just don't sell all the weapons that a Ninja can equip...). The shields are for evasion porpuses... Note: I was at Lv 5 with everyone, so I had to fight x5 Wild Nacks, breaking a rod & killing 1 party member, so everyone but 1 player gets to level 6. (I chose the one that just learned Death Claw, Butz in my case) ^ You'll lv up with the M-i-a-B instead *Ifrit Time: 0 hr, 58 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 6/5/5/6 Strat: Break 2 Ice rods Commands: 3 ABP: 5 Grab the Fenix Down from the chest to revive the person when you learned the blue spell. - Learn Level 5 Death from predetermined battle with a book (Page 32/Page 64; 64 teaches Level 5 Death), use Death Claw to weaken the enemies. Just be sure that such battle will trigger those monsters. If not, you can either run & fight again (you'll have to enter & leave the next screen IIRC) or fight some random fights after or before... *Byblos Time: 1 hr Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 6/5/5/6 Strat: Death Claw, then hit Commands: 3 ABP: 7 - Heal again using the the pot, return to Karnak & get the ship, then sail to Crescent Isle & you'll lose the boat. - Learn Dark Shock from Black Flames outside of Crescent Island, then head to the forest for new jobs and Black Chocobo. Use a rod to kill them at the same time... Reminder: Reminder to check if heading a little above from Crescent Island to encounter Black Flame x5, learning Dark Shock & leveling up, then stealing Ethers from Prototype is faster than the current strat. (Besides you could buy now some running shoes...) Note: If you can Learn Dark Shock & get 99 Silver Bows on the same battle, you'll shave some time. You'll have to equip Learning ability, which you should learn by now... - Head to graveyard of ships, change to Ninja/Thief/Thief/Thief and find Undead Rusks (inside ship, where you get the map); use the infinite item trick; steal Ethers and re-sell them (& buy again, let say 21, on Lix). You can run from the battle if you want, oh and the Ether is a rare steal... (The extra money will be donated to buy Running Shoes) Better yet, you can steal Silver Bows from Crescent, which sells for the same price as Ethers, though you'll only get 99 instead of 255. And if you manage to make them drop the Doom Axe, it can substitute a Death Potion. It will be barely enought, so you won't be able to buy Running Shoes... - Head to Lix (Butz home town) to buy Tents, Maiden Kiss & discounted scrolls: 11 Water Scrolls (3 for the Sand Worm, 3 more for the Puroboros & 1 for the HiryuuSou) 21 Lightning Scrolls (3 per each Rocket Launchers/Flame Guns fight) To bad you can't buy Fenix Downs nor Elixirs here, that would be great :( (Buy Antidotes for Mix purposes?) - Head to Karnak for lots of Rods & Fenix Downs 21 Thunder Rods (2 for Clay Claw, 9 for Sol Cannon + Launchers, 4 for Archeoavis, 1 for the Lil Charriots) 11 Fire Rods or Ice Rods (Again 4 for Archeoavis) 21 Fenix Downs (For Mixing & reviving purposes) Note: The items are rounded to 10n + 1 because it's faster (you'll press Up instead of Right...), besides you won't have money crisis ;) Note 2: You might have some probs if you stealed the bows instead of the Ethers, so just take +1 of everything that it's mentioned, to be sure you won't need them later on... - Now head back to the Ancient Library, change jobs to Ninja/Ninja/Ninja/Thief. Don't heal, the Sand Worm will use Demi A LOT, it won't kill you but will reduce your HP anyway... Now go to the Desert. *Sand Worm Time: 1 hr, 13 min Jobs: Ninja/Ninja/Ninja/Thief Levels: 8/7/7/8 Strat: Use 3 Water Scrolls (Note: You don't need to select the Sand Worm ;) ) Commands: 4 ABP: 5 - CATCH 3 Sand Bears now for Gilgamesh-2 (Use Death Claw to weaken them). To make someone wait to catch later a Jail Bear. Lenna in my case. You can come back later if you have trouble getting the 3rd Sand Bear to appear... Change jobs to Blue/Blue/Blue/Thief after that. Equip some Thunder Rods beforehand for the next boss battle IF it's faster than equipping them at the fight - Go through the Ruined City and Machine beneath, heal if needed. *Clay Claw Time: 1 hr, 19 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Bard Levels: 8/7/7/8 Strat: Break 1 Thunder Rod Commands: 2/4 ABP: 5 - Return to the Ruined city, then go back & talk to Cid. Now head to TYCOON meteor & fight Adamantium *Adamantium Time: 1 hr, 22 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Bard Levels: 8/7/7/8 Strat: Lv 5 Doom Commands: 3 ABP: 5 - Go back to Crescent Isle, then to the Lonka Ruins. - For the Rocket Launchers/Flame Guns, use 3 Thunder Scrolls per battle. Jobs should be Ninja/Ninja/Ninja/Bard. Remember to learn Missile from the Rocket Launchers (Equip Learning Ability) *Sol Cannon w/Launchers Time: 1 hr, 26 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Blue Levels: 8/7/7/8 Strat: Just break lots of Thunder rods Commands: 9 ABP: 7 Note: You'll win 1 Dark Matter, remember to get rid of it when you wanna do the steal glitch later on. Reminder: Reminder to check if the Ancient Sword can hit with Old Halicarnas (and any other boss...) *Archeoavis Time: 1 hr, 29 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Blue/Blue Levels: 8/7/7/8 Strat: Break Rods (various flavors, depending on how he feels) + Lv 5 Death Commands: 9 ABP: 10 Note: You should wanna skip the last Rod in order to be able to attack ASAP in the next round, because the 2nd form of Archeoavis might hit you with Gale Cut before you can connect the Lv 5 Doom. Reminder: Reminder to check if using Deathclaw + hit is faster than breaking 2 rods, when possible... - You'll get more jobs, Galuf's leaves, bleh. Return to Tycoon Meteor, then to Worus Meteor & you'll fight Puroboros. Note: If you need more sand bears, head to the desert and pick them up (you'll need 3 total, and remember to take Galuf into account). Also fight a few times to level up a bit. (I used 2 thunder rods & fought those bomb-like enemies). If you're lucky, you might encounter Bomb x4 & only need to fight once ;) *Puroboros Time: 1 hr, 40 min Jobs: Ninja/Ninja/Ninja Levels: 9/8/9 Strat: Use the scrolls & learn Exploder Commands: +6 ABP: 5 NOTE: You'll may wanna change the Battle Speed, to speed up their Explode attack... kill them all but one, who will then use Exploder (so you'll learn it). Heal the enemy with a Hipotion if necessary. Go to the next Meteor. *Titan Time: 1 hr, 42 min Jobs: Dragon/Samurai/Samurai Levels: 9/8/9 Strat: Jump + GP Toss x2 Commands: 3 ABP: 5 NOTE: Butz must be on the air before the 2nd GP Toss connects. (The lowest level you can have is 9 in order to kill Titan in 2 hits, maybe you could be able to finish it with 1 player at 9 & the other at 8, would need to test it, though calculations says that I'll deal 1200+1350 > 2500 :D ...) - Go to next Meteor, use tent to heal everyone. (maybe just Fenix Downs will do...) *Chim. Brain Time: 1 hr, 48 min Jobs: Blue/Blue/Thief Levels: 8/9/9 Strat: Death Claw + hit Commands: 3 ABP: 6 Note: You can steal a Dragon Fang from Chim. Brain, for mixing porpuses. If you mix a Dragon Power & use it on yourself, it will increase the chances of connecting some magic like DarkShock, so it may worth after all... - You'll be ready to leave this world, but remember to bring lots of Fenix Downs, Potions, Ethers & Tents because you'll need them. (You should had done it before, it's just a reminder :P) The time before leading to the 2nd world was 1 hr, 59 min. Yay sub 2 hrs ^.^ WORLD 2 - Use a tent (or cottage) & you'll fight the Abductor. *Abductor Time: 2 hrs Jobs: Blue Levels: 8 Strat: Use Death Claw + hit, or kill yourself (you can use explode for that) Commands: 2+ ABP: 1 Note: He'll reappear regardless at Val Castle for a rematch; i can personally confirm this (thats right, beat him here and he'll still show up) - Galuf vs Gilgamesh battle is next *Gilgamesh Time: 2 hrs, 4 min Jobs: Blue Levels: 9 Strat: Use Missile Commands: 1 ABP: 0 - Capture a jail bear before leaving ex-death's castle for Lenna (or whoever missed it) - On the bridge, the battles CAN be avoided (aside from the first w/Lil Chariots, break a lightning rod on that battle). ASCII map here *Gilgamesh Time: 2 hrs, 6 min Jobs: Trainer/Trainer/Trainer/Trainer Levels: 9/9/8/9 Strat: Release Sand bear-Jail bear-Sand bear-Sand bear (In that order) Commands: +4 ABP: 0 Note: The Jail Bear is weaker than the Sand bear & when you deal more than 4000, he'll get hyper. Reminder: Reminder to check if you can switch some Bears per Rods, though I doubt it would be faster... - On village of Rugor, buy new shields if you wanna (remember to sell the Dark Matter) then proceed. You can buy Holy Water here (for mixing purposes). The Holy Water is for the Samson Power... *Tyrasaurus; Time: 2 hrs, 11 min Jobs: Chemist/Chemist/Chemist/Bard Levels: 9/9/8/9 Strat: Use a Fenix Down on him :P Commands: 1 ABP: 9 Note: Here I learned conceal for Faris, just in time :D (You'll wanna keep her as a Thief for more boss battles...) - When back at Val Castle, the basement has statues which dye instantly against Level 5 Death; they yield either 4 or 8 ABP depending on how many you face. Refill magic with Ethers you'd saved previously. Mix takes 45 ABP total (is for several boss battles along the way, including ExDeath) Note: Change jobs to Chemist/Chemist/Chemist/Blue, & make sure you'll leave them near lerning Mix ability (12 or less ABP) - Remember to grab the spell EXIT inside a treasure chest, because you'll use it a couple of times... *Abductor Time: 2 hrs, 27 min Jobs: Thief/Blue/Blue/Chemist Levels: 11/11/11/11 Strat: Death Claw + hit Commands: 4 ABP: 2 - In village of Kelb, you can still buy the Gold Shields if you want & weapons for Ninjas, If you'd sold them all (You'll need at least 1 for the Steal Glitch). Remember to get rid of the Dark Matter you won with the Sol Cannon, this is your last chance (otherwise, you'll need to use it via Mix, but it has to be on a different battle than when you perform the Steal Glitch). If you're in the shopping, then you can buy some armors to increase speed a bit, like the Stealth armor & GrnBeret helmet... (I did that before, in another town, I think it was Linx) Note: You should better re-stock some Fenix Downs if you are short & buy Holy waters & other items for mixing porpuses, as you might be able to skip going to Mirage Town on the 3rd world... - In Dragon Valley, run into a battle w/ ZombieDragon and infinite item 99 Dark Matters *HiryuuSou + Hiryuuka Time: 2 hrs, 35 min Jobs: Thief/Ninja/Ninja/Thief Levels: 11/11/11/11 Strat: Death Claw + hit or scroll Commands: 3 ABP: 10 Note: You'll have someone with Blue ability equipped for the Death Claw. If you're fast, then there won't be any Hiryuuka, otherwise you'll need to use a multi-target hit like breaking rods or using scrolls... Use the EXIT spell & head back to the castle (cure Dragon). Then visit Gil's cave & then to Zeza's Fleet. Note: Since I already had Blue & Mix with Lenna & Galuf, I made them Bare from now on. *Gilgamesh Time: 2 hrs, 44 min Jobs: Blue/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 11/12/11/12 Strat: Mix a Doom Potion (Fenix Down + Dark Matter) Commands: 2 ABP: 0 - Scale Barrier Tower, remeber doing the Galuf clonning bug :P Image 1, Image 2, Image 3, Image 4 *Atomos Time: 2 hrs, 48 min Jobs: Blue/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 11/12/11/12 Strat: Dark Shock + Lv 5 Death; someone will die, do not revive them. Commands: 4 ABP: 12 Note: Butz learned Blue in my file, so I changed him to Bare w/ Blue + Mix abilities from now on. - Head to Gil's, then to Mua and buy the spells Break & Old (Black/Time respectively). Break is for Twin Tania & Old for Halicarnas. - In Mua forest, grab Aegis Shield. *Seal Guardians Time: 3 hrs Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 11/12/11/12 Strat: Mix 4 Doom Potions (Fenix Down + Dark Matter) Commands: +4 ABP: 15 Note: I tested using only 1 person with Mix & isn't that bad, everyone survived, oh well... *Galuf vs Ex-Death Time: ? Jobs: Bare Levels: 11 Strat: Exploder or Mix a Explosive (it works even with 0 HP) Commands: 1 ABP: 0 - Ex-Death's Castle next, at some point run into a Magic Dragon and Learn Level 2 Old. And remember to use a Elementalist to cross the lava harmless. Grab the Ice Shield. Remember to use the shorcuts (which are shown here...) Image 1, Image 2, Image 3 Note: Dunno if just crossing the lava w/o changing to Elementalist it's slower, but it seemed to me like it where... Needs to be checked... The Ice shield doesn't comes to use as I though (and you'll encounter more enemies in that area...) - DON'T FIGHT Gilgamesh (meaning dont look in the Chest before ExDeath's floor), to bad :( *ExDeath Time: 3 hrs, 13 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Lv 2 Old + Lv 5 Death Commands: 3 ABP: 0 WORLD 3 *Antlion is up first; Time: 3 hrs, 19 min Jobs: Thief/Bare Levels: 12/11 Strat: Lv 2 Old + Lv 5 Death Commands: 2 ABP: 5 - Head to Gil's and perform the Skipping Lenna Glitch (Use EXIT magic immediately on the Ancient Library) - Head to Mirage Town with Boco, had to the "weak" magic shop and buy FLOAT. You can also grab the Thief knife if you want. Buy some Fenix Downs if you're short AND buy Maiden's Kiss + Revivify if you plan to berserk Exdeath. Now grab the Black Chocobo. Note: You can also buy some Running Shoes (Hermes Ring I guess), but I didn't :P (I think I should after all, though would only afford 2...) If you stealed the Bows instead of Ethers, you won't have money for even 1 :( Note 2: With some manipulation, you won't need to buy Float, as Catastroph doesn't always start with Earthquake. (Though you'll need to equip the Aegis Shield IIRC...) - Drop by the Oldest Tree (right side of it), then go to the Pyramid. *Gargoyles Time: 3 hrs, 30 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/11/12 Strat: Mix 2 Doom Potions (Fenix Down + Dark Matter) Commands: 3 ABP: 10 *Mummy x3 Time: 3 hrs, 31 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/11/12 Strat: Fenix Downs Commands: 3 ABP: 2 - Grab the Protect ring & Ribbon... - When you get out of the Pyramid, Merugene waits at the Oldest Tree. *Merugene Time: 3 hrs 34 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/11/12 Strat: Dark Shock + Lv 2 Old + Lv 5 Death Commands: 3+ ABP: 20 - Now you've got the Airship! , head for Tycoon Void Portal Welcome to the N-Zone *Carfisteri Time: 3 hrs, 43 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Lv 2 Old + Lv 5 Doom Commands: 3 ABP: 20 Note: Do it quickly, seeing as how she'll put up reflect. *Apprehender Time: 3 hrs, 44 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Dark Shock x2 + Lv 2 Old + Lv 5 Doom OR Samson Power + Dark Shock + Lv 2 Old + Lv 5 Doom Commands: +6 ABP: 16 *Apocalypse is OPTIONAL (but he guards a save point) Time: 3 hrs, 45 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Use EXPLODER; he will then learn and use it and kill himself Commands: +2 ABP: 0 - Should he be fought or not is the question, I personally think its funny, and would add humor to how dumb he is. It takes around +45 secs though *Catastroph is next Time: 3 hrs, 46 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Thief Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Dark Shock and Lv 5 Doom Commands: 3 ABP: 21 * Then Halicarnas Time: 3 hrs, 47 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Time Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Use Jikuu OLD to age him and then Lv 5 Doom Commands: +4 ABP: 20 Note: You'll be turned into a frog unless you have equipped a Ribbon. Use MaidenKiss to restore status. (You can't use magic while being a frog). If someone died, don't revive, unless it was Faris, who had Conceal ability... (Everyone else will die in the next battle anyway...) *Twin Tania awaits Time: 3 hrs, 49 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Black Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Hide & appear when "CHARGING UP FOR GIGAFLARE", use BREAK (around 5th or 6th attack of Twin Tania) Commands: +2 ABP: 24 - Use Fenix Downs to revive everyone (but Faris, of course :P) & enter the Void Note: You might wanna level up a little via Mix, as if I read correctly the Algorith FAQ, you'll have either 1% or 0% of connecting the Dark Shock on Ex-Death with those levels. *Ex-Death Time: 3 hrs, 55 min Jobs: Bare/Bare/Bare/Time Levels: 12/12/11/12 Strat: Dark Shock + Lv 2 Old + Kiss of Blessing + Lv 5 Doom Commands: +4 ABP: 0 Note: I think my level was to low to make the Dark Shock work :(. You can gain exp. with those Iron Giants, just mix a Doom Potion to take them off ASAP. 2 fights should be enought. (You don't NEED to fight Iron Giants, but they grant lots of exp.) You've finished the game ^.^ Enjoy the ending - HELPing: -RUNNING FROM RANDOM BATTLES? FLEE and SMOKE (thief/ninja respectively) do the job very well when you cant seem to run as fast as you normally can. i still dont know why this happens. FLEE works without any animation, so its suggested to use that (you'll most likely learn it first anyhow). -GOOD MONSTERS TO STEAL FROM? Undead Rusks in the Graveyard of Ships. its highly suggested you steal ethers from them several times over to get your gil high up so you dont have to worry later. Since it's a rare steal, there should be better items to steal... The prototype also has Ether, but as a common steal :D -HOW LEVEL 2 OLD WORKS; Answer courtesy of samurai goroh It decreases the level by around 20 frames, but it stops if your battle gauge stops... -DARK SHOCK ROUNDING; Answer courtesy of samurai goroh It will round down... Points at Atomos strat ;) -UNAVOIDABLE BATTLES; Answer courtesy of samurai goroh - Goblins in beginning of the game - Lil Chariots for Big Bridge in World 2 - The Gabbldegak at the ship - Mummies in Pyramid in World 3 Blue Magic Learning As you should know, Blue Magic is CRUCIAL to being able to beat the game quickly. I'm going to try to name the important ones and the fastest or most optimal time for them to be learned. GoblinPunch - Learned from any Goblin (i believe). the best formation to looks for is one outside of Tule with 3 Goblins. DeathClaw - Learned from Iron Claw after escaping Karnak Castle (post Steam Ship). he is the boss masked as a Sergeant during the Sergeant + 3 Wild Nack Boss Battle at the entrance of the castle. You must kill the Wild Nacks and then wait out the Iron Claw to use Death Claw. L5 Doom - Learned in the Ancients' library from Page 64. beware, to learn it you must have someone with a level divisible by 5 and they must die. DarkShock - Learned from Black Flames (they are either around Crescent Island or Lix) Missile - Learned from Rockets in forced battles just outside of the Floating Ruins (Lonka). Exploder - Learned from the Byurbolos (or any Bomb like monster) at the Worus Meteor (this is done while searching for Adamantium AFTER Galuf has left the party for a short time). to learn it, kill all but one of the Byurbolos and let him use it on you. L2 Old - Learned in Ex-Death's Castle (end of world 2) from Magic Dragon. Chemist Mixes I've gone through and noted a few useful mixes. Death Potion - Mix Phoenix Down + Dark Matter Instant kill Kiss of Blessing - Mix Maiden's Kiss + Revivify Casts "Bersk", "Haste", and "Image" Dragon Power - Mix Potion + Dragon Fang +20 Lv Samson Power - Mix Antidote + Holy Water +10 Lv Dragon Armor - Mix Phoenix Down + Dragon Fang Increase defense and magic defense & sets a wall barrier Explosive - Turtle Shell, Dark Matter Suicide attack; altern method for Exdeath on world 2, at the Great Forest of Mua, since you'll most likely use Mix on the previous battle... Bugs/Tips for game use Two Galufs!? - Before fighting Atomos, switch Galuf to the first position (Butz Default). After the tower goes, Galuf leaves the party, BUT HIS SPRITE REMAINS! its graphical only, but is still a double take. Infinite Item Glitch - Your money problems have been SOLVED - A last Ditch effort for a quick kill: Samson Power/Dragon Power enemy to 255 + Lv 5 Death [Dark Shock]+(Lv 2 Old) + Lv 5 Death Old + Lv 5 Death Memory Address Values 7E3D7F Attack Gauge, 1st position 7E3D8A Attack Gauge, 2nd position 7E3D95 Attack Gauge, 3rd position 7E3DA0 Attack Gauge, 4th position It starts at XX & drops to 0, then you can perform a command... 7E2202 1st position enemy Lv 7E222A 2nd position enemy Lv 7E2282 3rd position enemy Lv 7E22AA 4th position enemy Lv 7E2302 5th position enemy Lv 7E232A 6th position enemy Lv Not really sure if they are really 6 different codes OR each pair is for the same enemy... "nice" ?!?! seriously dude, this has to be the longest post I've ever seen. congrats to the author, and also to all of those that have the patience to read it entirely. too bad this game is another "must have played extensively to appreciate" candidate :( eventually a good tas might arise from this.

i like goroh's format far better than mine. and im VERY pleased to see someone putting this to good use. praise you Tilus, you are a hero. *deletes previous walkthrough* my input for goroh's FAQ: hmm... im wondering about the mythril shields, exactly where this evasion will take place. oh, and have someone die in the Iron Claw Battle or LiquiFlame Battle instead. your more likely to lose someone in the Iron Claw battle anyhow. you wont need to heal before Sand Worm. i just got a buttload of DEMI and ended with very low HP (but gravity attacks cant kill you). so heal afterwards as you'll need to change jobs anyhow... or maybe not if you can manipulate luck rather well. leveling up for Titan... theres several places for this... finding the best for most experience may be helpful. i was thinking Black Flames, since they're very simple. but i love what you have. im not sure about stopping at Rugor/Lugor. is an elementalist necessary? i mean, compared to just letting it go since we'll be running from battles and then healing with a tent? i suppose testing it is the only way to know for sure. the skipping lenna glitch... thats my only concern. id suggest picking up the haste-ability accessories personally. you wanna get actions off in the void before Wind Slash or Flame gets your party. ok... i like it. of course, they arent my choices to make in the movie, but i like whats compiled here. very nice. i REALLY like the strategizing for learning those VAL CASTLE abilities. very nice work goroh.

You mean after Iron Claw's battle? You wouldn't have shields for a really long time. This is the 1st place where you'll buy shields & most likely the only one. The Gold Shield isn't that worthy...

Yea, I didn't calculated the Lv I would get after the battle, so I forgot that I was going to learn Lv 5 Doom :P. But using 1 rod to kill the Wild Nacks isn't that slow (unless you can't get the fight quickly) & you wanna level a bit for Titan (Though you have plenty of time later...) Now I remember that Liquid Flame killed someone & I used the Pot to revive it :P

Oh, I healed to refill the MP, I'll need them for the Black Flames (I used Death Claw). Didn't checked if breaking rods was better, but I'll check that later.

Well, I read your FAQ that being in Lv 8 wasn't enought to kill titan with 2 GP Toss, so I remember that after Galuf leaved :S . Besides you'll get more exp that way (& I bought plenty rods so I had to use them)
/*- wrote:

Actually, I didn't. I just commented that you can do some stuff there, but not that you must... I stopped until Kelb actually... (Maybe I should remove it)

Well, every time you walk in the lava, the screen will shine & you'll walk slower (plus your HP will drop to 1). That's why you temporally change someone to Elementalist. It would be needed to check if temporally changing jobs is faster thank just walking (I think it is)...

I just wanted to add that bug. Dunno if it cuts time, but it's cool to see bugs in a game :) I didn't needed Hermes Ring (Running Shoes) urgently, but I think they may had saved a couple of secs later on...

For the final version, you shouldn't make Faris also learn Mix ability, you can handle with the other 3... Since you won't have Faris with Mix & probably won't learn Blue ability until later on, the jobs used for the Bosses will most likely change back to Blue with Mix equipped...

hehe, thanks. BTW, if you haven't noticed that I leaved Faris most of the time as a Thief, it was to manipulate the 1st attack of the Bosses (plus I was to lazy to change her job before & after the battle :P)

breaking rods is better. i forget the element... ice or thunder. but a single rod should do them in.

you walk slower? i never even noticed. whats in the lava you need to get? i thought you got diamond and ice shield back down before the lava part... around where magic dragon is first encountered (well, ice shield... diamond is perhaps a bit too far out of the way?)

Ok, I'll change that. Just that in Crescent Island, you'll fight 2 Black Flames with 2 Crescents, so you might need more than 1 rod... (I should add a note that if you have probs triggering that fight, you should go to Istory instead)

There's nothing in the Lava that you'll need to pick up, BUT there's a Shortcut you can use. Besides, there's still another lava room that you must cross anyway... Oh BTW, how do cross a text? (like underline, but in the middle...) Edit: Something I found that may be interesting is that when you performed the steal glitch & have 255 of an item, you can either sell 1 or 255. But that's not all, if you sell 1, you'll get the money but the # of the item won't decrease. So you can really sell more than 255... (Though it's kind of slow...)

crossing the text is done by entering:
<strike>
</strike>
if ever in doubt, you can always quote someone or look at the page source. strike seems like a pretty weird word now.

I wanted to do that, but you erased you FAQ before :P .I though the tag was something longer, like strikethru. anyway, thanks /*- Now on topic, Tilus, there weren't much in the movie to point out, but you should make anyone but Faris a Thief after the Wind Shrine, since she'll temporally leaves the party when you enter Tule... (This is kind of mentioned in the Walkthru, nope you check it before progressing more on the movie) BTW, are you planning to make it to public, or just wanted to do the known strat frame-perfect? Oh, I was searching for some codes & found one for escaping from random battle, maybe someone can check it out to decipher when you need to press L+R to run from the battle (or how long) with this... 7E05C088 <-- Runs from battle immediately (if possible) Note: I haven't tested, so I don't know if it really works... I also wanna look for the Memory Address of the level of the enemies, since you'll use the Lv 2 Old/Old magic a lot... (though it might not be really needed, because of the frame slowdown...)
