Rather than impose artificial limitations upon the US release of SMB2, why not do a run for Doki Doki Panic, the FDS game upon which it was based? Doki Doki Panic requires that the levels be completed four times, once with each character.

You mean, the best idea since the decision to invade Iraq, right? You left-wing liberal anti-American scum! If you respond to this, then you want our young men and women in Iraq to die.

back on topic... its a first run so hes gonna feel more comfterable doing a game which was done before so he can reference it. anyways if he wants to do a mario run who cares? if its not published then at least in the end he'll feel more comfterable with his abilities and be on his way to becomming a better, more experianced TAS'er.

>anyways if he wants to do a mario run who cares? Not a lot of people obviously, which is exactly what he asked. Would people find it interesting, and could it be published? If he just wants to gain some experience, starting TASing right away is the best (and only?) way. Also, and I might be misremembering, but I think Kitsune is a she. PS to xebra: the only good American is a dead American.

d00dz, one question: when I stop working on the movie, how do I continue it later? Like if I stopped recording at world 2-1 and I wanna continue the movie from there... how?

First I did like the idea Xpenguin had, but then after JXQ brought up the runs Mario have showed up in, I will also vote against this run. Sorry.

I like to use Mario when I am just playing through this game, but I don't think a TAS with him would be that cool. Most of the levels would look similar to playing as Toad or Luigi, just slower. A Doki Doki Panic run would be interesting, but mostly just for historical value. It would be much slower because you aren't allowed to run and it would also be somewhat tedious because all four characters have to beat the game. Interestingly, one character can start in the second chapter (world) and optionally go back to world 1, but I'm not sure if 23w5w7 is faster than 1w4w67.

See, and I'm not sure why that is... Did whoever copied and distributed the disk image just have that world beaten at the time, or are you really supposed to get a free pass there? I think I managed to get the world completion saves completely cleared after beating the game once, but I forget exactly how it happened. This is important to figure out so we don't have disk system game runs desynching because people have different amounts of progress saved.

Aight dawgs, I got up to world 7-1 and hopefully tomorrow (or da day after) i'll finish it up. I realize you people dont care much about my run since you got some other guy who beat it faster using the suitable character, but im only putting an extra episode in the box... just in case someone that's bored will care to watch it sometime. It doesnt contain that many interesting tricks, because other people with probably more time have studied every friggin byte and thus created a more professional movie. My movie is a peice of shit and pointless to watch... but hey, what the hell ;)?

I think it's probably a good idea to inform that mr. Xpenguin won't be making his movie. After I banned him for his behavior at IRC a while earlier, he sent me an email with full of personal attacks directed to me and the TASvideos community in general (a mere extension to what he was already doing at IRC). At the end of it he said he won't be coming back or contributing. Of course, that could have just been his step-brother or cousin, but for what we know...

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1642/supermariobros2.fcm For those who won't click on the link: I've found (but it may not be new, as we said on another forum: Old But Good Job Finding It For Yourself) a way to kill those Bob-omb dropping birds from the ground and without jumping, but it takes some preparation in the shape of a POW block that you've picked up earlier. I do it by dropping the POW, and then rapidly throwing a vegetable over the explosion. That makes it (the veggie) fly higher and longer. I'm fairly certain that all "things" (pickups like POW and mushroom blocks, enemies and the main character) use the same physics, although slightly modified.

Nice finding. That's interesting! It would be nice to see it as part of a warpless TAS. It's entertaining to watch and probably at a cost of few extra frames.

I think he's wondering whether getting your character to jump in would cause him to fly off like the vegetable does, which might just have TAS potential if it's true
