yes I know, this IS a TASwebsite...
But I found that, with all single segments, that they are great because it's done in one sitting but that having no mistakes and glitches in a TAS makes it more entertaining to watch. (at least for me.) The SDA run (like the 70 star) does have the guts factor going for it- being really risky in a single segment run where a fatal mistakes causes a restart. I was impressed with the SDA run. But, I feel like comparing it to the 102% DCK2 run at SDA- I decided to make a TAS of it (mostly because there's no DCK2 102% TAS) but even though there was great techniques, bold moves, it still had a death and a lot of non-optimized, defensive playing. The 120-Star is great- but the mistakes, coupled with the perfection that only a TAS can provide will make me in the end like FODA's more than the SDA run.
Just finished watching the speedrun. It is a work of art for the bowser levels alone! I wouldnt say it is up to par with the 70 star run but it is pretty close and uses more modern strategies.
You can tell from the camera manipulation how much practice was involved.
This signature is much better than its previous version.
In all honesty here, the 120-star run on SDA is the best non-TAS speedrun I've ever seen, including segmented runs. Arguing that TASes are inherently better is kind of silly anyway, but especially in this case, because the level of control over the game is so consistently high. I have as much respect for that run as I do TAS runs of extremely high quality.
Going by the WIPs of this run, I think we'll have just about the best of both worlds for this game.
heh, yeah still thought imagine just wasting 1 hour just because you decided to do a long jump to save you like 2 seconds and u fall of and die and lose like 45 seconds and u restart.
The reason he took those risks is because he already had a sub 2:15 (which was his goal) completed. He felt like there wasn't as much pressure if he made a mistake, so he could go out and make all the risks he wanted.
Regardless of this, he still has massive pills for doing that. Incredible.
I found a weird glitch the other day and haven't been able to replicate since I mysteriously pulled it off, and couldn't do it even after 2 hours of trying, but in the basement I was screwing up the camera in Mario Cam so the camera was directly above mario allowing you to see through all the walls where the key door is. I did a double jump backwards and a mid air kick and appeared underneath the platform with the two coins in the main lobby, from there it might be possible to get to a useful spot. Although probally unlikely. The key door would be probally be useless since it would say "this door is locked bwa bwa bwa", I don't know if glitching through the 8 star door would have any use either apart from avoiding the open door sequence. The best possible use would be to long jump into the second bowser room although it probally doesn't even phisically exist at that point in time.
The other possible use in the main lobby is the seam near the eight star door, there is a specific spot where mario can get stuck and do all sorts of stuff such as continous unassisted head bashing and hyper jumping. I've tried to glitch through that spot but there is a very strong repellent force which pushes mario away, however if it was somehow possible to get a backwards longjump in there then who know what might be possible, you would be able to build up enough speed and do a mini double jump and effectivley warp to location.

Believe it or not, I found this out about a week ago, and I was just about to make a video of it showing my discovery...It's not too hard to do. And yes, it's a fun little glitch, but game-completion-wise, it's useless.
