My paws got enough rest so, i think i can back to wonderland and start second serious project. Pirates of Dark Water is remarkable for its eccentric setting, utilizing the source material's melding of swashbuckling adventures, sword-and-sorcery fantasy, and Road Warrior-inspired fashion aesthetics. Drawing from the cartoon's backstory, players fight rival pirates as well as fantastic creatures sent to hinder the heroes from finding the Treasure of Rule by the evil pirate-lord Bloth. It features 9 different stages in all: Pandawa Jungle Port of Pandawa Citadel Bobo Mountain Janda Town Andorus Sunken Bridge Maelstorm Dark Dweller’s Lair The game features the main crew of the 1990s TV show - Ren, Ioz, and Tula - searching for the Treasures of Rule in order to rid the world of Mer of the Dark Water and return Mer and Ren's homeland, Octopon, to its former glory. At beginning of each stage the player can chosen one of the three main characters: Ren - medium strength/medium agility; Tula - low strength/high agility; Ioz - high strength/low agility; Tula is quickest character so obviously she will be my Alice in most of levels. Ioz is slowest character, however he able execute one crazy useful glitch, so Ioz (=Mad Hatter) will have cameo appearance in run too. Captain Ren (=Dormouse) is neither fish, nor flesh, nor good ed herring so he will not be used at all. I spent last few weeks for preparatory works, like route planning, testing various tricks and glitches and finally started slowly recording actual run.
If you drink much from a bottle marked 'poison' it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later.
Here my first humble WIP (so far "Pandawa Jungle" only): Link to video Estimated time for completing full game about ~ 16 minutes and 30 seconds. 俺はアルカンフェル!海賊王になる男だ! Upd: Final result ~14 minutes and 14 seconds :)

Excellent movie!! It deserve all existing regalias - star tier, newcomer's box and not forget to add notable improvement tag too.

Except music games look like twins, it is more like choosing ROM version for the same platform. Versions are so similar that if new run was faster probably it can be accepted as cross-platform improvement, however it is slower and there are no proof that it is better optimised (or at least equally well). So it definitely would be mistake to obsolete Synahel's run. Not sure that is worth to have two independent publications for almost identical versions of this game. Have one of them published is already more than enough imho. Uneasy case for judgement.

Yeah, but probably the "fulfill more criterias"-rule should be also applicable for switches to more amount of players too: For example if switch to 2P give very little negligible advantage over 1P, like only slightly faster boss fights, without any new teamwork-tricks or route/gameplay changes, such improvement can not called notable imho. Edit: After all, changing amount of players is just a one of methods to reach improvement. Result of such improvement can be notable, or not so notable.

Agreed, some playaround improvement deserved notable improvement tag, however not all of them. Playarounds be can infinitely different, especially for fighting games like MK, and notable changes not always equal to notable improvement. Sometimes one playaround is just better than other, but it is not notable improvement. ---

Some games, and TAS improvements to them, garner more interest from the wider community than others.
I think it is very significant that rules about this tag must work exactly the same way and for improvement to ultra-mega-popular and famous games series like Mario, Sonic, Metroid or Zelda, and for improvement to the most boring runs from vault.
and the the first criterion is pretty arbitrary (why 10%?)
Not sure that 10%, 13,14159%, 20%, or any other fixed number can be good criteria. Would be a lot better to formulate more flexible definitions, independent of frame-count. Look like moozooh in previous post made a pretty good startpoint for formulate such definitions. Agreed with all his points, except #6.

Notable changes is not the same as notable improvement. It would be wrong to use this tier for all MK tases and for all other playarounds. Also refinement about point #1:

In cases if benefit of using new tricks/techniques or glitches is very small - it is not notable improvement.

A few suggestions how to resolve situation: 1)For all new improvements which will be accepted in future: Judge must clearly write in his decision one of two phrases - "this improvement is notable" or "this improvement is not notable". So problem with unorganized classification of notable improvements at least for future runs will disappear. 2)Make proper classification for all old movies is a lot harder, but with using collective work it can be done: I think worth to create new thread, similar to Special stars and call it "Notable improvements". In this thread every tasvideos member will be able to propose to add or to remove this tag for particular movies.

I want to say a few words about Notable improvement tag. It not used properly. Sometimes improvements are not so notable, nothing outstanding, just better general optimisation, but movies can have this tag. [2095] DS Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin by mtbRc in 04:18.65 [2853] SNES Demon's Crest "100%" by The Brookman in 35:04.68 [1958] GBA Sonic Advance 2 by Mukki in 18:01.78 [2414] NES Ufouria: The Saga by Aglar in 23:52.60 Another story is absurdly heavy mis-used of tag at this movie: [1715] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by HappyLee in 04:57.31 No matter that this game is infinitely popular and deeply optimised - one single frame is still one single frame, such improvement can not be called "notable". Sometimes improvements are notable, but tag is not used: [2973] Genesis Phantasy Star II "warp glitch" by Jiseed in 07:39.46 [2934] NES Super Aladdin by arandomgameTASer in 05:23.37 [2936] NES Super Turrican by Alyosha in 08:36.39 [2786] NES Kid Icarus by Randil, Alyosha in 21:05.75 ... and ect. There are dozens of other examples. Such unorganized and chaotic using or not using this tag make it nearly meaningless. Take attantion that for old improvements before 2011 year situaltion is even more desolate, for old movies this tag almost was not retrospectively applied at all. Why not? I think tag should cover all movies on site, not only recently published. For example history of publications for Comix Zone (in case if tag correctly cover all movies) should look like approximately like this: [954] Genesis Comix Zone by xoinx & XYZ in 09:34.88 [846] Genesis Comix Zone by xoinx in 10:19.30 [747] Genesis Comix Zone by xoinx in 10:39.62 [214] Genesis Comix Zone by Zer0 in 14:12.80

Iguana Games. {ROM filename: Pirates of Dark Water, The (Jan 1994) (U) [!]} Игра интерестная, следовательно и тас по ней должен получится весьма и весьма хороший.

Thanks everyone for positive feedback! I will be glad to continue creating Sega Genesis TASes in future, and completely new runs, and improvements to already published runs from time to time :) --- By the way, maybe someone have a copies of unpublished gmv-movies from old maTO website? Mission 3 also bring good harvest of frames. {More than one minute ahead of published run.} New tricks: 1)At some occasions Bond is able survive if he falls from high places. => Long and boring period of waiting of main elevator is left in past :) 2)Two huge shortcuts with deaths after liberation of Bond's girls. 3)In the game there is no hand to hand combat, however James is well known master contactless battles, and even without using hands he can help guards take a hot bath in boiling lava [for entertainment]. I guess already on next week this short project will be completed.
