Even if the entertainment isn't as good as it could be, I think it's well worth publishing as a Moon at this point, especially considering the technical achievement.

I think this would be another good candidate for a Moon, with the stipulation that any run aiming to obsolete it should play all the levels and collect as many rings as possible in levels where it's impossible to get the Perfect Bonus.

For me, it was the first TAS I ever saw, nitsuja's first Sonic 3 and Knuckles run. When I saw the Ice Cap Zone skip, my jaw hit the floor. I think that the current publication should be a recommended movie if it's not already. EDIT: I like the Super Mario World info box as the "Recommended Movie" icon.

Truncated's point when he initially rejected it was completely valid: it very much looks like real-time play. There are whiffed attacks, blocked attacks, delayed attacks, failed fatalities...this is not up to TASVideos standards, IMO.

I don't know that there's an official rule on disc swapping yet, but I remember that there was a precedent set when Final Fantasy 9 was published that the disc tray is not considered a valid input. (In FF9, you can skip cutscenes by opening and closing the disc tray, or in the case of PCSX/PSXjin, loading a bad ISO and then immediately loading the good one again.)

I watched this again recently, and thought it was pretty darn good. Considering the relaxed nature of nonstandard/alternate goals in the Moon tier, perhaps this deserves a third look?

Waiting on either an encode, or for Bizhawk to support Nach's JMA compression for SNES ROMs.

With the implementation of the three-tier system and the relaxing of restrictions on goals, I'd like to argue in favor of this run being returned to active publication alongside the presently published Pokemon Red run, which is currently an obsoletion of this one, since even the description in the publication for the Red run indicates that the two runs do things completely differently. I would also argue that there's enough awesome/hilarious content in this run to qualify it for the Star tier, although I could also see the argument that there's a bit too much build-up/standard battling before getting to the insanity.

Why is the input file length misreported? Anyway, the payoff was hilarious, but there's WAY too much build-up.

I do believe it is, as a Moon for an esoteric goal.

It just seems better than using other versions and pretending the glitch doesn't exist.
I disagree. Why use a different version where a bug is fixed instead of just using the version already standardized to TASVideos and just not use the bug? It comes to the same thing.

I agree with that sentiment. I'd like to see a longer run play more (and maybe more complicated) songs too.

I would argue that manipulating the RNG to get an exit tile as quickly as possible would be at least worth a low Moon.

I'd like to propose that this is a good candidate for a Moon.

It's easy to say something's suboptimal NOW, but what about when it was submitted? Was it still suboptimal at that point, considering the state of TASing seven years ago?

When both/every loop(s) are the same aside from difficulty, permission is usually granted for the use of a password/savestate/SRAM to start on the hardest loop. See: [303] NES Metal Storm by TheAxeMan in 12:54.23 (Though that particular one, IMO, broke the rules by acquiring the fireball weapon in the verification movie to use in the actual movie.)

That's my bad, misunderstood the point of the Vault tier. I'd be up for publishing them as Moons, then. Entertainment is subjective, after all, and I personally find a lot of it in any Super Metroid run.

While the 14% categories are technically obsoleted by the glitched 6% run, they still showcase some interesting strategies. I'd vote Yes for both of them to be published to the Vault.

Too, this is only a single level, and I'm pretty sure those have been rejected in the past for goal choice (F-Zero and Top Gear 1 notwithstanding.)

Where the hell did this come from? This was rejected over a year ago! EDIT: Oh, the admins are in the process of implementing the new system.

You bumped into objects, stopping you, multiple times just in 1-1. That's REALLY bad for a speedrun. You need to know the levels like the back of your hand, so you know when to jump in advance.

Hacks haven't required prior approval for a long time. They're simply judged along with the run, both on its' own merits as a game and as a derivative work of the base game. I think the tier system is a pretty good idea, and I agree with calling them literally. Upper tier: Stars Middle tier: Superplays Lower tier: Speedruns As far as organizing publications, a system like Speed Demos Archive uses, with each game having its' own page findable via a Google custom site search, would be our best bet, I think.

You can dump the video yourself if you have the right setup. There are instructions in ZSNES's readme. To expand on what jlun2 said, ZSNES is not good for TASing for a number of reasons. * There's no real-time memory watch function * There's no input display * The ZSNES CPU core is not deterministic, so it's very prone to desyncing.

That can actually be done.
I know it can. That's why I said it. Would be a fantastic April Fool's submission.
