It's been a longstanding policy at nesvideos to accept only recordings made with Famtasia. But now that the new nesvideos has more users with publishing rights, is there any reason why we can't use VirtuaNES now? Can someone with publishing rights comment?
VirtuaNES movies could be added, providing the following points hold: - Movies are made according to the rules, i.e. reset-based, not savestate-based - Someone can actually encode and publish them (no, I won't accept proprietary audio/video codecs and I won't accept bad FPS anymore either) - VirtuaNES movie format is made known to Bisqwit (so that the site may calculate the movie information correctly) Unfortunately I can not judge VirtuaNES movies because VirtuaNES refuses to run under Wine.

do you think there should be a category of users qualified as judges? They could be people who are each specialized games and would really ease the work load. That way only quality runs that pass the judges' approval would be passed on to and encoded by the movie publishers. Just an idea.
Phil also suggested a voting system for the submissions. Something like a mixture of these two ideas could be useful.

Btw, another question I forgot to ask is how do I change what catergories a movie is in?
Editors can't do that. Categorising is currently restricted for movie managers only, because the tool for updating the categories is on the same page as the tool for adding/removing files and such. I can make you a movie manager as well - even if you won't be handling submissions.

Yesterday when I checked, only a small portion of the movies were catagorized into a certain genre, but now I noticed that you categorized almost all of them so it's fine now.
Actually the workgnome behind this improvement was Warp. :)

How do you do the ladder trick Morimoto does in MM2 with Item-3? If you're talking about the trick where he quickly zooms to the right, that's done by holding up+down on the controller. To pull this off though, you would need to use a keyboard or mess with your controller pad. You don't need item-3 to do it. Just hold both the up and down directions and once Mega Man reaches the top of the ladder, he will go flying to the right. You can also go through walls with this trick.
This is not true. The trick has nothing to do with pressing up+down or left+right at the same. To do the trick, you have to press UP (or possibly DOWN would work too) to grab the ladder when you are above the level you would normally be able to start standing at. The game will place you high above the ladder, and if a ceiling happens to be there and you're facing left, you'll zoom to the right. The important piece of this trick to work is your position: If you are not high enough, you'll just grab the ladder and climb up. You have to be high enough so that climbing would no longer work. Regarding the Wily warp, you can see an example of it here: https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/rm2aig.zip (FMV only, for Japanese Rockman 2). This movie chooses a password, plays the Airman level and goes through the walls to continue the Airman level in the Wily 2nd level scenes. EDIT: It is also available as AVI at: https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/rockman-aire2.avi (no streaming! rightclick, select save as)

I agree completely with Kyrsimys. When the submissions were fewer, I used to watch the submissions very carefully and complain to the author personally in constructive spirit of any signs of the "oh well, I don't care" attitude in the movie. Now I don't have enough time to do that for everyone - especially if I don't know the games beforehand. I just hope people would take the guidelines SERIOUSLY.

I'm thinking of removing this forum, because it's no longer needed. Movie planning can be done in the NES/SNES/Genesis forums, and rejected movies are now still downloadable from the submission pages, and they include explanations. [EDIT: This is an old thread. Ignore it.]

Sorting movies by genre. RPG in RPG section. Action in Action section and so on and so forth.
I don't really see how Michael's message conveys the idea of your translation.

It would take hell of a lot time in doing so. It can be done, just it would take lots of time in sorting all the movies into their respective category.
Don't underestimate what computers can do. All pages of the website are completely program-generated. It's a piece of cake for the computer (server) to do the sorting. It's just some work for the webmaster (me) to create the structure.

> 1. Besides looking through the recent changes page, is there any way to get to the page with all the personal pages? I think it would make more sense if the page that lists all the players links to their personal pages. Deviance answered your question very well. Note that there is also: http://tasvideos.org/Users.html > 2. Are people able to submit fmvs that they don't want to be published? If so, how do you specify whether you want it to be published when you submit it? Technically yes, but my site is not meant to be a random file storage. If there's need, new categories can be made - such as "demonstration" which would not be a speedrun and possibly would run only a part of the game. All submitted movies are supposed to be candidates for publication. > Also, after you submit a movie, can you unsubmit it and have it removed from the site? You can't remove the movie from listings, but you can cancel the submission and it will be marked as such. I can permanently delete submissions if there's some legal reason or such for it. > 3. Is there any way to see all the movies submitted by a particular person? Movies of a particular player can be listed via: http://tasvideos.org/players.cgi?mode=list EDIT: Submissions of a particular person can be listed by following the link from the user's personal page. Also, every user can list their own submissions via: http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi?mode=list&type=own It should be noted that the site has two different user registers: players, and users. There's no link between an username and a player. (Well, there is in the database, but the feature is incomplete and completely unused.) > I think the movies that each person submits should be automatically linked to on their personal pages. EDIT: This is now done. > I also think that the description of each published movie should link to a list of all the submitted movies for that game. I don't think it's very useful. > 4. There should be a way to submit articles to the site (such as a listing of glitches in a game, a walkthrough, or anything else that might be of interest) that would be linked to on your personal page, and possibly linked to in the description of the game that the article is about (or if you set up the page to automatically create lists of all submitted movies for each game, links to the articles could be on that page). Editors can create new articles and link them to where ever they wish. All users can create links on their own page to other pages. > 5. Now that I'm able to login and I found out I'm an editor, I'm able to edit pages that already exist, but is there any way for me to create new pages? Create a link that refers to the new page, and then click the "?". You can also take the "edit movie" page address and replace the page name with your new page name, but it's recommended to create links first - this ensures the page won't become an orphan. Note that the page names should follow the wiki convention: JoinCapitalizedWords, no special characters. > 6. On the movies page, you should be able to sort movies by player. Considerable. > I also noticed that only some movies sorted by genre, so you should put all the movies in a particular genre. I don't understand what you mean.

I notified you of your oversize animated avatar, but you didn't respond before I got tired of it (8 hours) so I deleted it :) Regarding your post, you have submitted the movie to the submission queue and it will be looked at when there's time for it. Just wait patiently. There are a lot of other submissions too. If you want feedback from people other than the movie managers, you can ask here, but don't be disappointed if nobody cares. :)

Can someone explain how to playback movies with the linux version? Or am I blind and I dont see any option or command line to do it?
If nobody has modified it after me, the keys are: shift+1 = start recording a movie shift+2 = start playing back a movie shift+3 = stop movie recording/playing

I have all your mpg demonstration clips (including wilys.mpg) available at: http://tasvideos.org/jp-mm2/ But if it causes too much traffic, I'll remove it. EDIT: Garion also kindly put a mirror at: http://www.garion.org/jp-mm2/ I'm thankful that you have written explanations in English too. Ps: I hope your cut-paste works. The game may have randomness that prevents it working.

It's the most accurate. I do similar in Rockman.

Neither do the wrapping or ceiling tricks of Rockman 1 and 2.

You mean RockMegaManWorld? Finalfighter got excited of it when I mentioned him about Gens. Who knows if his next project after Rockman 2 will be that one. I disagree about "better sound" though.

Yes - it is in fact already being worked on.

It has. I'm now 31 frames (0.5 seconds) faster after the Guts Man level than in the published movie. The saving in score accounted for 15 or 16 frames (20 for less counting, 4 to get the 50000 value at start).
