Since you're new to TASing, JWinslow, I wouldn't recommend you do this game. The current run is tightly optimized (except for one frame, I think, which doesn't matter because of a frame rule) and people would expect your run to be as optimized as that one is. If you're looking for a game to run, pick one you play or played a lot, so you know all the tricks and glitches to run through it crazy fast. Maybe no one's done it yet. You won't know until you look.

VanillaCoke is working on KSSU? Since when? I don't think he's TASed that game at all, but MUGG had a WIP.

Okay, thanks rog and Ilari. I will keep that in mind. It does sound like a lot of effort though, so I might just stick to GameCube TASing for now.

I thought Kirby Super Star used the SA-1 chip, not SuperFX. Wasn't SuperFX just for games with 3D effects? Interesting comparisons though.

There's no reason to use cheats here. I would recommend doing all 40 levels if you want this game to have a published run. No vote.

I haven't played most Atari games. Pole Position might be interesting to see TASed, if it's not too similar to the Rad Racer TAS (one of the most boring on the site, as evidenced by the rating). Multiple TASes of the NES version of Dig Dug have been rejected, so I wouldn't suggest that one. I've only played the arcade version of Pitfall II on MAME, and it was pretty hard, but it would be interesting to see it TASed.

O.o I should have looked that game up before repeating that person's suggestion. I like your suggestion of having a score to shoot for. I hope that becomes a new rule for Atari games, since a lot of them apparently don't have endings.

I see. So it's not organized or easy to follow at all, like GameCube controller input?

If there was a mission that required running in one direction for quite a while and occasionally jumping (like that one star in Battlerock Galaxy), would it be a good idea to use jlun2's hex value copying idea to keep Mario running straight without desyncs?

Kirby 64 Jumping into a pit and then pausing the game while your health is counting down causes the game to freeze.
I've been trying for a while now and nothing happens (I'm on emulator). What kind of pit? I'm trying to trigger a crash in 1-2, where the cable car is.
I accidentally did it on my N64 a few months ago in a pit in the (third?) level of Neo Star, where the fog and falling rocks are. I ran out of air and fell into the pit, and I was about to pause and choose Exit Stage, but apparently my health was already counting down and it froze. I had full health, but I think I pressed pause at three or four health points.

Thank you for your translations, FractalFusion. I appreciated being able to follow the discussion. So how hard would it be to TAS a single star in Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2, since those games require the Nunchuk?

this is one of two games for a new system to TAS that I would LOVE to see be TASed. Yet the best of the system is being voted as boring, uninteresting and not worth the time.
I think there's only one person who suggested that Atari games are all boring. Other people have been suggesting Atari games like Custer's Revenge, Pitfall and Pitfall II that would make good games for entertaining runs. This game and E.T. definitely do not represent the best games for the system.

I second that suggestion. Lynx is the original platform for Chip's Challenge. If any version of the game is TASed, it should be this one.

I didn't expect that. BizHawk was off by about a frame near the end (pause at 9:35), for a game with as simple timing as Super Mario World?

Your account can't be deleted, but you can be banned, so you'll want to be careful. I would recommend reading up on the Site Rules and considering what would make a great, entertaining TAS (maybe another game) before you submit another run that gets you yelled at.

Fastest crash runs aren't publishable. The run needs to beat the game.

I'll wait for an encode of the new movie, but I'm looking forward to it since I read Cooljay's comment.

Zeromus is not a troll. He helps code the emulator you're complaining about and fix the bugs that people report. And he can't help you if you don't give him real problems with the program instead of contradicting complaints. Leave if you want, but this is the only place you can get help with BizHawk, if you really want help.

So you voted Yes purely because it's an Atari 2600 game with an ending, and because the run is short? You don't even care about entertainment, the most important factor in deciding whether or not a run should be published? Sure, these are a great technical achievement, but there are more interesting Atari games like Pitfall that don't make terribly boring runs. If a run puts people to sleep, it shouldn't be published on this site.

Totally agree. No vote. Also, it's hilarious that none of these apparently 12 Yes voters have shared why they voted Yes (scrimpeh didn't even give a reason), while most the Meh and No voters had good reasons why this run should not be published. So what they're implying is that there is no reasoning behind their decision to click the Yes button and leave. If you all want this to be published so badly, why don't you post why? Otherwise, it won't get published.

It's hard to vote on this. It's great that a new platform is TASable and that this is the first Atari 2600 TAS, and that this infamous game was TASed. From a technical standpoint, it's good, but from an entertainment standpoint, this is just boring. Nothing happens; E.T. is the only thing on the screen, he falls down a pit three times, and there is hardly any audio. Not to mention the long wait for the mothership to land. Runs for this site need to be entertaining. This isn't, voting No.

There's an existing thread for this game already. I hope someone could merge these posts into that topic. The GameCube version is TASable, so you could always use that if you wanted. You'll probably want to know how to optimize first, but it should be fun to TAS.

You mean try the original, on PSX, right? The more challenging, more impressive-to-break game? Go for it. No one's currently running it, and you may beat our WIP.
Ok, but do you have skype? Seriously, i will never, i suck in tas and i tried and i made 57 s for 1 level you made 2 min for the 2 levels :p
Yes, I do. I'll send it to you. There's plenty of useful stuff in the game thread though. Just look at how we did it.
