What he did was just put the Portuguese Wikipedia's article into a translator and copy/paste it here. I haven't watched this, but based on the prior comments and low number of rerecords it seems like this is not close to an optimal run. I'm unsure as to the amount of loading time before the game starts, difficulty level, and difference in time between different characters, but there's a really old run on Youtube that does it with Cody in about 17:50 or so, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_jy6wi9DqA (part 2 in sidebar).

The description says he doesn't kill a monster, but doesn't he kill a monster in the very first cave? Hit once on the way in, once on the way out... gets 10 exp.

Try deleting it from the command prompt
This won't work. If a file handle is open for some reason it won't close just because you're using the command prompt. If you boot up using a separate boot disk, or go into safe mode or some such, you might be able to delete it, but this is a pain to do every time you want to delete one or two files. I'd just investigate with process explorer.

When a file is accessed it opens what's called a "file handle" in the system. Sometimes when you're done with the file (this could mean removing it from your bit torrent client, or after watching it) the file handle doesn't close properly. After you reboot you should be able to delete the file fine, as that will force all file handles to close. The only reason I would think you wouldn't be able to is if you've still got the file in your torrent client and that starts up with Windows. If you want to investigate or close stubborn file handles yourself, try out Process Explorer: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/processesandthreads/processexplorer.mspx Click on the binoculars and type in part of the file name and it will tell you exactly where it's at, then you can right click and close handle in the main screen. As far as why the files from this site and not others are being kept open, who knows. It could very likely be a component of the codec used that's misconfigured on your system. It's very odd that you're not able to delete them on startup.

Is the encoding on this a bit screwed up? At times it seems like the sound is several seconds ahead or behind, but by the start of the next stage it's back to normal

A quick note about this game... there are some programming errors in the game that I found and acknowledged by Ubisoft. I played GRENADES on a triple-triple and it turned it into GRENADEG on the board, and you can only score a maximum of 100 points in a turn.

The answer detection in this game is poor. I haven't bothered to look for a guide on the net about it, but I know when I played it on the NES years ago you could enter in a bunch of random shit and it would say you had entered in some answer and give it to you.

I'm not sure what I installed, I downloaded a number of codec packs and whatnot, and OGMs work in WMP (not just MP classic) for me. Push comes to shove, you can always use VLC. For some reason VLC gives me a black screen on everything though, so I just use WMP.

Why isn't this played on the hardest difficulty? Also, this looks like it was played as an average player would do it at a normal speed.

I still can't find a way to jump straight to the hardest difficulty level. Anyway, I played through the first few levels (on hard difficulty) at about 15% speed and using 0 rerecords. Here are some observations: The floating laser-shooting islands in the first stage may be better to destroy, pointwise, than trying to destroy them and the rocks that form when they break up. It almost certainly is possible to defeat the miniboss of the first stage before he disappears for the first time. It's possible to kill the second stage boss before he uses the giant laser beam for the second time, and it's probably possible to kill him as he's doing it for the first time, especially if you get in front of him when it happens. There are some enemies in the game that may be impossible to reach. However, when your ship crashes, it spews shrapnel around the area, even beyond barriers, so it may be advantageous to lose a ship. Heck, it may even be advantageous to crash your ship to kill a boss quicker. Since there's a bit of slowdown, I'm not 100% certain, but it's definitely worth looking into. The needle cracker is crap, and the round vulcan is probably the best weapon for general enemies. Fine-tuned control of the round vulcan looks REALLY impressive. Also, when I play I put the missiles and shots on the same button, but when doing a real run, it'd probably be best to not put them on the same button. There are a number of times when those secondary missiles alone would be fine (such as taking out the bombs at the end of the first stage, and destroying the wall-mounted turrets beneath the dropping ceiling of the second stage). I was creating a movie of the first couple of stages, but when I played it back I went to record it as an AVI and it erased my smv file (and yes, I picked a different file name). Anyone know what's up with that?

Colony is on my top 10 list of favorite songs (video game or otherwise -- and it's actually the only video game tune on there!). Weaponwise, I think all the weapons have their uses. The straight laser is pretty powerful, but I think the round vulcan provides a lot of flexability on non-boss enemies. The boss at the end of stage 2 -- I think one of the bomb weapons is useful here (when he walks towards the left side of the screen). Even the morning star may find some use taking out large numbers of small enemies (unfortunately it's not available for the opening of stage 1, but it has its uses in the lava stage). I think the weird ass lasers you get for the last mission may be optimal as well, since you can hit stuff on the opposite side of ships with them. Very unwieldy though. Overall, I think the only useless weapon would be the Needle Cracker. Anyway, about the gameplay mechanics themselves. I think there are a lot of interesting things that could be done that a normal player wouldn't do because they're too hazardous, including: Stage 1:
Go horizontal through the floating shooting rock islands, trying to destroy them all, as well as their debris. Go very quickly between the tunnels towards the end, trying to take out extra enemies before having to commit to one tunnel.
Stage 2:
Wait until the last moment to pass under the blocks that fall after you shoot the supports out.
Stage 3:
Go in and out of the pipes over the city, trying to destroy all the cannons. Stay inbetween lasers when they are shot at you by both bosses.
Stage 4:
Leave the jellyfish creatures attached to your ship (if I remember correctly, they just drag the ship down)
I'm sure there are some other ways to spice up a run like this too. I know after you beat the game, it puts it on a harder difficulty -- I don't know if you can skip to this harder difficulty automatically, but if you can, that would be really cool. The amount of bullets that come at you in the hardest difficulty surpasses anything like Gradius.

I saw some posts on Gradius 3 and R-Type, so I figured I'd mention Axelay. Some of you may not know this game, but it's in the same vein as Gradius. It's also similar to Life Force in that some of the stages are vertical and some are horizontal. You get new weapons on the completion of levels, and can pick a new weapon lineup for each level -- sometimes it's beneficial to use older weapons than the new ones you receive. In terms of time, it's fixed movement, but there are times when the game waits for you to beat certain enemies before progressing you further through the stage. The real "challenge" to this game, then, would be points and kills. The horizontal stages are just as packed as horizontal Gradius stages, and in some cases you can move up and down multiple screens (like the Moai head levels in Gradius), so there are LOTS of enemies to be killed. There are no speed upgrades, so various weapon properties would need to be utilized to effectively kill 100% of the enemies. Also, from a purely aesthetic aspect, the controls are crisp and the music is some of the best from on the SNES. A lot of the people who did this game later went on to make Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. Anyway, just throwing the idea out there.

Although this is kind of hidden at the bottom of the page, let me say it's impressive and I hope that you or someone else continues it. Back in the day I was OK at Gauntlet, until I got to those invisible stages...

What's the Terranigma super video? I'm a huge fan of the game, but I don't know about any super video.

From my perspective, it's not that illogical, as that's typically what I do. If I'm on from home, my upload is capped at 15 K/s, so I typically close my download as soon as I see it's finished so that I can download other stuff. If I'm on campus I will leave them on, or if I think about it I will even start seeding files I've had downloaded forever. Since I can upload more there, it ends up downloading quicker and finishes faster. Aside from these two points, if one downloads the file quickly and notices it, they might likely close the torrent. However, those who take a long time to download are more likely to leave theirs on for nights or a weekend. So, although the ideal situation is that people leave them open when slow, since people close them based on circumstance, I think it is expected that people act in the opposite way.

All I can say is, wow. I especially like how Glass Joe was handled, heh. Normally I would at least hit him for the first 42, but it looks much more impressive with just the one punch.

I don't want to stir up a fuss or anything, but I've read some of the posts and they're pretty brutal when some minor mistakes are being made during games, so I don't feel I'm totally out of line here. It is possible to defeat Mike Tyson in the first round, so that being said it's not a timeattack. I think most people who have beaten the game more than a handful of times can beat him early in round 2. If you look at the fight from a purely aesthetic viewpoint, it's not very impressive either. The first and third rounds are played well, but round 2 has some issues with respect to blocking, punching at inappropriate times, etc. I think it would be interesting to see someone get through the game beating every fighter in one round.
