Thanks for reminding me. Can't believe I withheld this for a whole month. Pokemon Gold TAS (Johto): http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=6973032 If it desyncs, try again or fire up a savestate. This is a Geodude run, simply because Geodude learns Magnitude and Rock Throw. I'm not exactly sure which Pokemon would be best to level up, or if the Red Gyarados is worth using. There were plenty of mistakes in the run. I lost a lot of time by not getting Dig or Escape Rope (and was forced to fight an unnecessary battle). Also, if I aim for fastest Johto completion, I shouldn't get the Radio Card first. The first gym could have been done better, too. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Edit: In-game completion time is 2:25

Good to see that you're trying this game. I suggest starting with Cloud Man. Freeze Man is faster to beat with his weak weapon than Cloud Man with his weak weapon. Plus, you can get Rush Jet earlier. I also suggest you alternate uncharged shots from a distance and charged shots up close, a method that is often seen in Mega Man games where you can charge up.

In terms of taping .avi segments. Sorry about that. Basically, I didn't make an AVI of most of the lake battle. It's boring. Edit: #8 is here: http://rapidshare.de/files/13753150/mm64tas8.avi.html

Soundless AVI segments are here (starts at #5): http://www.savefile.com/projects/501843 #8 isn't here yet; savefile is having awful problems. Update: #8 is here, on rapidshare: http://rapidshare.de/files/13753150/mm64tas8.avi.html A couple things. First, I cleared out the first three segments, and second, I didn't bother with most of the lake battle so I didn't make AVI of it. If you want to see any such AVI's, just tell me. As for angle running, it's unfortunate, but it's the fastest way. Good thing Mega Man doesn't jump faster than he walks. Why can't games resort to a fair amount of physical realism? There is no free-roaming camera, either. Mega Man's movement is highly dependent on the camera angle, which makes good camera angles a rarity. Even worse, the best camera angles are the ones that cause the most lag (this game has a lot of lag).

Here's the run up to Barcon destroyed: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/833/Mega%20Man%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 Savestates: http://rapidshare.de/files/13683134/savestatesmm64.zip.html Remember to run it with raw data enabled (my fault). I took a different route in the Cardon Sub-Gate which prevents having to revisit the conveyor belt room. The jump to the high platform was done differently as compared to the .avi (I went back to change it). Finally, it was hard to hit the Barcon's arms; it would have been better if there was no shot tracking. :( The run is 27 minutes long, but game time is 23 minutes. This is due to (unavoidable) lag. The .avi won't come yet. The savefile file servers are full.

Yeah, I figured out that you have to go all the way back to Uptown. Even if not, it still wouldn't be worth it. Assuming that I get the red refractor. Although my run has not finished the Barcon yet, I went ahead (without recording a run) and tried out the Main Gate glitch. Although I was able to get into Main Gate early, I ran into the same problems that you guys ran into as well. What I would like to know is why there is such a "hole" in the ruins that allows me to simply fall out of the map using the Jet Skates. Are there any such similar holes anywhere else? If it is possible to fall out of the map in the Main Gate area, it would be trivial to get past the problem door. I was really busy this week so I didn't get much done. I'm at the Barcon now, though.

Oh, okay. That makes sense. So you are going to take down the lake with the Power Raiser and Sniper Unit, correct?
Yes, if by Power Raiser you mean Laser. :)

How are you going to go about the Sub-Ruins there?
From watching your run, I'll decide whether to get the Old Hoverjets and make the Jet Skates first, or get the red refractor first. At least, I'll try out the Main Gate glitch to see how it works. Note that I have never played up to that point yet.

Well, that sucks. Im guessing Portal 2 is where you entered right? Im not up to speed on the locations of the Portals.
Portal 2 (referenced by some maps) is the second entrance to the ruins from Cardon Forest. It's the entrance where you glitch into Main Gate. I'm using this route just to delay making the Jet Springs.

I tried out that jump and did it on my first try. Its actual pretty simple to pull off. Now, is there a chance it is useful?
On the order of sequence breaking, not really. But you can get the Rollerboard and 9260 zenny, then leave through Portal 2 and call Roll. You can't get the Buster Unit this way, but the Sniper Unit is exactly the same, and you can buy it from the Junk Shop for 800 zenny. Speaking of Sniper Unit, I somehow realized that at the lowest range level, it is impossible to knock out the Barcon's back cannons. Seems unfortunate, since I wanted to destroy the Barcon with max attack (Laser+Power Raiser Omega). By the way, is it possible to glitch into Main Gate without using Jet Skates? Edit: Thereisnospoon, I like DeHackEd's upload but for games that are either long or N64, I tend to distribute .zip files with both the TAS and savestates in them so I have to use savefile. The one thing that bothers me is the lack of a download count. If no one responds, I have no idea whether people watched it, or they think I'm stupid and totally ignore me.

Sorry to keep you guys in the dark, but I've been very busy lately so I didn't really do anything in terms of X1-X3 TAS. I was working on a Mega Man 64/Legends TAS, but nothing serious. As for luck manipulation, it's pretty hard in the first few stages of X1. To get things at the end of the intro stage to work out feels like a major accomplishment. Anyway, I think the best way to luck-manipulate bosses is to drag X down a wall for a few frames, if there is one. It may be the dust sprite causing the change, but then the dust sprites formed when you dash don't seem to affect luck at all. If not, just experiment with timing.

Wow. I never expected that anyone would want to sequence break a game so badly. Except in various Halo speedruns. I like to glitch up games, too. I found a way to enter the ruins from Cardon Sub-Gate without Jump Springs. It seems near impossible in real-time, though: http://www.savefile.com/files/3668560 To make it to the high platform, a perfect diagonal jump off the elevator panel is required.

Here are four soundless .avi segments: http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=501843 I was just getting used to the VirtualDub encoder. Although it seems strange to leave out the sound, I decided to do so since the audio would double the filesize (I haven't played around long enough). I also had problems uploading to savefile.com. I tried to upload the last segment six times (five in savefile.com, one in rapidshare.de) before it worked. As for the run, if I get the Active Buster, I would only upgrade its energy, if I could. I've also been thinking of how sequence break in this game, but in terms of reaching places that are normally too high to reach, I don't think so. Mega Man can get hit in midair to send him higher, but doesn't gain enough height.

I can't believe I missed this. You must check raw data for the movie to work properly. I enabled it by accident when starting the run. I took it off later, but it's useless now. Edit: nitsuja says not to record with raw data, although I'm not sure why. I'll have to remind myself the next time I make a run.

After a busy week, I finally have some progress. The run goes up to defeating the Marlwolf boss: http://www.savefile.com/files.php?fid=7234221 Although this is a pretty hard game to optimize, I was amazed at how fast the boss battles went. Splash Mine does a lot of damage to everything ground-based. I forgot to check whether Bon could be hit with Splash Mine when he lowers to smash Mega Man. A few things about the run: - It is faster to run diagonally. When going straight forward, using the strafe buttons does not affect Mega Man's forward speed; thus turning at an angle and pressing forward+strafe goes faster. I didn't start doing this until after the first boss. - I don't use lock-on because it can't lead a sideways-moving target. To shoot airborne enemies, I use look (C-right) and the directional keys. - Sometimes the camera angle affects lag, but I won't bother to reduce lag in this run. I've been watching the SDA run of Mega Man Legends and I can't figure out why he gets the Cannon Kit in the run. It takes a lot of time to get and he doesn't use it a lot. I also think he picks up too much Zenny. If anyone would like an .avi, I'll try to make one.

I've started making a TAS, the first time I tried making a TAS under Mupen64. Don't expect much, though. I don't know much about the game. By the way, could anyone list the buster parts that are important to get?

Surf is only 95 power, while Gyarados starts with Hydro Pump, which is 120 power. Anyway, Snorlax could also learn Earthquake, or Psychic, though I doubt either would be more successful than Hydro Pump, given the low level and lack of STAB.
Sorry about that. I just assumed Gyarados should learn Surf over Hydro Pump. There's only 5 Hydro Pump to use.

If you still plan to catch Snorlax, you could give him Fissure, which wouldn't be out of the way since Giovanni gives it to you. Of course, that would require you to manipulate her Gengar to miss his first attack, since a Gengar is going to be faster than a Snorlax at virtually any level, and certainly an L60 versus an L30. And going back to earlier discussion on the Mew glitch, I believe an L8 Abra can have a 21 special, but it'd be just about the lowest possible value.
Fissure only hits if you go first on a turn. That means Snorlax has to go faster. X Speed, perhaps. I think the best way is to Surf the ghost Pokemon.

Yes, it's not a Mega Man game. It's just a game named Mega Man. If you like action-adventure, you would like this game (on the PSX). Personally, the gameplay is OK, although the game is graphically challenged on the N64. I didn't play through the whole game, though. The 3D and the choppy emulation got me.

You're not kidding, right? That sounds too good, considering Gyarados can learn Ice Beam and Thunderbolt as well.

I heard his last Pokemon generates a Mew, but some FAQ said that you can't get this Mew. Maybe the FAQ never thought about Escape Rope.

If you do a Charmander run, would it be worth it to catch Mew? Or Missingno?

I had no problems catching the L30 Red Gyarados with a Poke Ball. With luck manipulation, of course. As for the radio contest, it keeps messing up and I have no clue what's going on. "Congratulations, the ID matches with the ID of your Charmeleon in Box No. 2, even though you never touched the boxes at all. This is the third time you won, so you win a super potion!" :? Besides, you get a Master Ball from Prof. Elm, and it's much faster to get. Edit: Oh wait, that's after you beat the Elite 4. Never mind.

I figured out something when playing with Pokemon G/S. If the text mode is fast (may hold for normal speed too), mashing the A button may sometimes render the text at that moment one or two characters per update, as opposed to three. The small deviation may be enough to throw the timing off. I'm not sure if there are other factors. Try turbo A throughout text, and notice how much slower it is. Edit: I didn't realize this earlier, but you seemed to have indicated that the random factor that multiplies the damage by a random amount can be manipulated independent of critical hit manipulation. If that's true, that would be awesome. I ran into a similar case using Geodude's Magnitude attack (G/S). After I use the attack and it says "Magnitude x!", critical hit cannot be manipulated, but random damage can.

Only 4 1/2 hours and 384 rerecords? Spend as long as you must to make the best movie possible. No one can make it in 4 1/2 hours. I must tell you that most of these movies take a month or more to make. Check out the guidelines as well.
