This is a great run, with killing everything and all that. I've never seen so many enemies die. And you did it without slowing down. That Balrog, or whatever he is. I don't know what he is, but I call him Bablo. Voting yes. Oh, and someone uploaded to nicovideo a few hours ago. http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm15999823 (1/5) http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm15999889 (2/5) http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm15999980 (3/5) http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm16000043 (4/5) http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm16000140 (5/5) It was me. :D

Thank you, neo_omegon. I'll see what needs to be changed.

I've looked at this a few times, but when I used Rikaichan on 月読み, it returned "Tsukuyomi (god of the moon in Shinto)". There is a related Wikipedia article about Tsukuyomi as well. In any case, I didn't understand why it should be called "moon reading" (even though it is literal translation of 月読み, and it is used in the translation patch) so I used "Moon-God" instead. Maybe I'm wrong, or something else should be used instead.

"Koren" is used in the patch, like "Bigieu" (美獣) and "Jagan" (邪眼). I believe the translator thought that 紅蓮 reads as kouren, and so used the name "Koren" (most other sources, such as Rikaichan, say that 紅蓮 reads as guren). Personally, I could have not used any reading of 紅蓮 at all, and just used "Crimson Lotus Wizard". But that's too long to say over and over, so I used the short name from the patch: "Koren". I could change it though. I didn't like "Bigieu", so that could be changed to "Bijuu". Also of note, I used the name "Death Eater" for 死を食らう男 even though the patch uses "Deathjester". So I'm not always consistent.

Either is fine, I think. I'll decide on it. The patch uses "Karl".

SRT now added to youtube. Thanks, OmnipotentEntity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcKJ6tYvvq0 For those who would like a local SRT file, here it is: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qxihvl352xuiqca Here's the ASS file: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?6q28poy1qdpa92t If you would like the encode to use the file, download the youtube video off of youtube. I created the ASS file with the SRT format in mind, since youtube only allows SRT format. So, I avoid having multiple subtitles together (as compared to the subtitles for the Lagrange Point TAS). New effects are minimal and only consist of three colors or so, and some italics. Feedback is welcome. I probably made a few mistakes and oversights somewhere. Also, my knowledge of the game isn't so good.

Out of curiosity, how do Bit and Byte determine which stages to fight in? You play the same stage order as the previous run, but Byte appears one stage later in your run.
I have it written in the http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/SNES/MegamanX/Data.html page. Bit may appear at an unbeaten stage if you have cleared 2-3 Mavericks, determined by RNG/luck manipulation. Bit must appear if you have cleared 4 Mavericks. Byte may appear at an unbeaten stage if you have cleared 5-6 Mavericks, determined by RNG/luck manipulation. Byte must appear if you have cleared 7 Mavericks.

Great job, agwawaf! Thanks for improving one of the movies I made a long time ago. I was hoping though that sword jump would have been used though (use Beam Saber in the first few frames after jumping from a wall). But it looks really good, so I'll give this one a yes.

Thanks, DarkMoon. We've heard about it already, but as far as I know, no one here produced it on Snes9x. Apparently, it has something to do with a bad ROM and X-Buster bouncing off something. Maybe ROM version V1.0. In any case, I don't think it's necessary for whatever TASes we're doing.

Even though I've never played this one before, it seems nicely well done. I was hoping though that the game speed was slightly slower at least. Also, some parts (involving cutscenes and waiting) really stand out as unsuitable for high speed. That being said, it's an adventure game, and it seems OK paced enough. After all, it's not overly fast like DOS Mega Man or too slow like NES King's Quest V. There are some good sequence skips as far as I can tell.

The "triangle jump" always ends in a normal boost jump, so of course you can just use a normal boost jump. Trick is, you have to be in the correct position to pull off the jump. You have to wall-jump from as far from the wall as possible, and do it at the right height. I can't really explain much more. You'll have to practice it.

I've looked at this run twice. I found the 8 deaths as completely out of place in a game like this. In addition, 4 of them stall the game for about 3 seconds each. In my opinion, this is unfortunate, especially since there seem to be improvements over the other run that are independent of the decision to use death here. The ability to switch characters twice does not pay off, seeing that the only thing that happens is Tarma appearing for less than one stage worth of action. This run is too similar to the no deaths run to warrant publishing them both. I'm voting no.

Practically, I recommend attempting all of these possible improvements especially about resource management before whatever decision will be made on this submission.
In a 40K+ rerecord submission on a Metal Slug game, I don't think that attempting improvements to a submission is either logical or desirable, unless a new version will be made in any case.

I forgot to comment earlier, having dumped an AVI, but I'll do so now. I've watched the run twice, and it looks extremely well done. I like this one better than the "deaths" version, even though the other version is clearly more optimized, and not just because of the different goals. Unfortunately, I cannot see both this movie and the "deaths" version being published at the same time. They seem way too similar to me. Edit: I'm voting yes.

It's not often that a newcomer arrives with a TAS that blows everyone's mind. Great job, Carl! It's nice that you considered your speed-entertainment tradeoffs carefully, and you made it as entertaining as possible. Words cannot describe how awesome this TAS is. I can't even vote.

Angerfist, if you don't want to see one screen of a dual-screen encode, install AVISynth and make a AVISynth script that cuts out the screen you don't want. Then play in a AVISynth-capable media player. I think Windows Media Player works, but I don't know which others yet. This can also be used to rearrange screens on encodes of TASes which run multiple games at once. Edit: If you have questions about it or you would me like to make a script, then ask me.

While it was funny the first time, the fact that it runs horribly fast (like some NES game in FCEUX on fast-forward) means a no vote from me. Fast does not always equal good.

FractalFusion, thank you very much. Maybe if I use acc-lc, is better for youtube.
Generally, encoders here use FLAC for youtube, since it is lossless, and because youtube always re-encodes movies. But it is larger, so it is only used for that purpose.

Looks a lot better so far. But I think it could still be faster. What I've noticed is that there seems to be a lot of running after a slide before jumping. Is it possible to jump right after sliding? It also appears that there are a few places where you could slide more. Try to slide as much as possible. Also, jumping doesn't make you faster. Avoid jumping unless you need to, and stay near the ground to slide more. Autoscroller: did you check to see if the other vehicles took less time? Personally, I like the airship, since you can shoot, but you should pick the one which gives the least time. Bosses: The bombs do the most damage. However, there aren't that many of them. So you should use the sword on the ones which take less sword hits, and use bombs on the rest.

Youtube here. Thanks to mtvf1 for the encode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXkkd7hVmE8 You may also wish to get mtvf1's encode. http://www.mediafire.com/file/l8jcrqw7cmwdwro/Metal_Slug_eri-muxed.mp4 To encoders: As far as I know, the run is essentially 30fps gameplay in 60fps video. So don't bother with TASBlend.

Don't worry about it, mtvf1. I managed to sync it by changing the firmware to what you had in the movie file. I'm making an encode now. Edit: Not anymore. Or, at least, not right now. I only noticed after posting that mtvf1 made an encode.

Hello, mtvf1, and welcome to the forum. I'm trying to play back your movie, but I'm getting a desync. Could you tell me which version of DeSmuME you are using, the filename, and the title? The one I used had the filename "DeSmuME", title "DeSmuME 0.9.7 x86". The "About" also says "msvc 1500" and "compiled" "Nov 8 2010 00:57:58". Edit: The run desyncs at around 9:30 (~frame 34000).

I thought at first that this type of run would be too long. But it seems I am wrong. This run uses tricks that do not appear with any other goal. Things that are interesting are: * Some secondary areas with glitches (such as speeding up the autoscroll, and the sword pogo). * Using parts like D. Barrier. * Actually using X. * Getting a lot of Nightmare Souls. * Using the Blade Armor, thus passing the Gate levels quickly. I'll give this a yes vote. Just to clarify, you can unlock the Gate stages by getting 3000 Nightmare Souls with either character (that is, X gets 3000 Souls, or Zero gets 3000 Souls). If you unlock the Gate stages this way, you get a special scene depending on whichever character reaches 3000. Oh, and time for screenshots.

While we shouldn't require submitters to make or even link to encodes, I believe in general that the attitude the TASer has toward his own TAS is reflected in how much importance he places on presenting the submission. While not a defining factor, whether an encode or a link to an encode is there has a lot to do with it. It is necessary but not much to ask to be patient. While learning to make a good encode is possible, it really requires nothing more than to ask an existing encoder. For the most part, they are willing to encode it. Vykan12: I don't remember there being 4GB PSX ISOs. Most one-disc ISOs I've seen were 400MB to 700MB.

Hello, dn. Welcome to the forums. I use a script that monitors the RNG. It tells you how many times the RNG has been advanced every frame. If it advances more than once on a frame, usually it means something important has been determined. http://tasvideos-moviefiles.googlecode.com/files/megamanx%2Bextralife.zip By the way, Rolanmen1 and I are working on a new Mega Man X TAS. Vile's behavior is definitely manipulable; I used the cars as a wall to drag some dust. Notice that it's only from dragging down a wall that advances the RNG. Dashing doesn't do this. The bee bombers can be manipulated too, but it takes a bit of luck.
