65532. Scores in 2048 are always a multiple of 4.
Oh right. My bad.

Technical stuff: * Syncs fine on Bizhawk 2.8 (uzem core). * SHA1 hash of the ROM used is f78f8bd532e021c7c71e0306593d40b98591ee97, which is an established good version. Optimization: The strategy used is not different from the published run, so it's also established to be fine especially given there is not much room for manipulation in this port. Goal choice: Here comes the hard part. The author claims that the score overflows to 0 when 65536 is reached, so they have basically planned out the game over to happen at this exact value. However, from a little research, it seems like only the "display score" is overflown at this point. The 4 byte address at the location 09E0 shows the correct score. The fact that the game knows that it is higher than the placeholder scores is further evidence that the game atleast internally keeps track of the score properly. Given this knowledge, its possible to get a much higher internal score, which can be kept track of with a lua script. Now if we are to make the branch "maximum display score" instead, then it would make more sense to game over at 65534.

Assuming libTAS + wine require the exact same inputs frame by frame, it shouldn't be hard to write a converter at all! Sounds like a useful script to have in general as well. Edit: So I created this - https://github.com/GMPranav/wtf2ltm The keycode formats are a mess, so some of the keycodes might been missed, but I am pretty sure I accounted for atleast all the keys I can see on my laptop keyboard.

1080p synced. 4K currently sync dumping.
What? How lol. Well I am not complaining. Thanks Unity!

I tried to change the input file so that it will correctly click the main menu, but surprise surprise, it does not sync. I will provide the 1080p and 4K versions of the movie anyway, just in case someone else has better luck syncing it.

Here is an encode: Link to video I voted no on this one, because it doesn't feel like a satisfying goal to me, and the fact that I can only watch numbers shuffle around the screen for so long. Regarding the optimization, I don't know if there is a better strategy that can be used, but what this movie seems to do is the human strategy of neatly tucking the highest powers into a corner (which admittedly is a good strategy).

I personally think ListOfIdeas is a cool page, especially if its maintained in proper sync with the respective wishlist forums. However yeah, posting the whole library like its done for some of the systems is not ideal.

Syncs fine and dumps fine. You do indeed need to set the virtual screen resolution, or else it either doesn't get past the title screen (I'm guessing this is due to having to click on the "Play" button with the mouse) or it doesn't get past the Unity splash screen? Weird Unity jank, I guess. And also you should never under any circumstances ever fast-forward the game, or else it desyncs. I didn't have the option to set the screen resolution to 1366 x 768, so I went with 1280 x 720, which seems to sync fine anyway. This game is pretty hard to optimize because not only does it run slow in realtime and you can't use fast-forward, but there's soft-body physics so any change is really hard to resync. Even being one frame off changes your angle and trajectory drastically. Not to mention that there are tons of moving platforms so no change is guaranteed to save any time unless you can save a platform cycle. So this movie seems optimized enough for me.
Thanks a lot for the insight! I am surprised it syncs in a different resolution tbh, perhaps I can change the first mouse input and it might sync in 1980x1080 or even higher? Also it's surprising that fast forward fails to sync it, but then again my pc was never able to play it higher than the intended 60fps, so...lol.

The submitted bk2 has the hash B76D3A24E7CFF4C1D6396E263953322E which is apparently wrong and needs to be fixed.

You guys who voted no must be really picky. :) Should it be published? No, but that's not the question stated.
Perhaps the question should be changed a bit then. It's just that I have watched enough smb1 TASes already and this one wasn't special in any way other than that it's coming from a first time TASer. And there are so many games that are yet to receive even a submission. That certainly doesn't make us picky :)

Here is the comparison video as promised. I offset HappyLee's run by 84 frames. Link to video

Hello Thegame22, welcome to TASVideos! Your TAS is pretty impressive especially for a first submission. However, the movie rules state that the movie must beat all known records to be acceptable especially if it is aiming for speed, which unfortunately this movie does not I am afraid. Let's break it down. First of all, your submitted movie has a lot of blank inputs at the end which is adding to the time displayed here, so lets truncate those and end the time at the axe touch instead. That puts us at 04:58.71, which is over a second slower than HappyLee's 04:57.31. You mentioned that you optimized the run per RTA timing, so let's count from the frame 'T' is pressed to the frame the axe is touched. HappyLee's movie clocks at 17287 frames, whereas your movie takes 17845 frames. I found HappyLee's TAS better in the entertainment front as well. I will make a comparison video and send here later but for example, he does some fancy walljumps while waiting for the bullet bill. So, I will have to vote no on this one, but I wish the very best of luck on your next endeavor! Edit: I was wrong about the RTA Timing. The 'T' press frame is a poor place to start the timing, because it is tied to frame rules. Accounting for that, the run indeed ties HappyLee's time in RTA timing, the 84 frames lost by this submission comes only from the delay at the start. But for the same reasons stated above my vote stands the same. Again, impressive feat for a first submission! Edit 2: Replaced file with correct rerecord count

Split it into two separate classifications. Rejected for movies that will never be published (there is no more accurate term in English than 'rejected'). Deferred is the proper term for something that could be given consideration in the future.
Problem I see with Deferred is that it gives the notion that the rules will change at some point, and the run will become acceptable at some point in the future for sure. We already have 'delayed' for that. What we are looking for is a term that indicates in a very subtle manner that the rules may change to make the run acceptable in the future, I guess.

Yeah "Archived" seems to be in like the other end of the extreme. Also I agree that Declined sounds much nicer.

How about the term "Archived"? That's effectively what is happening when a submission is rejected isn't it? And there is no negativity attached to it. But perhaps that's actually the problem with it since the message "you can do better than this" needs to be conveyed.

What's up with the submission text edits? Don't get me wrong, feel free to edit it as much as you want per your liking, but one has to wonder if 66 revisions are really necessary for a fairly short piece of text which is basically information that can be found in the game manual. I don't mean to be hostile, but I highly encourage you to use the preview feature to see if everything is fine before saving the edits, and use the minor edit option wherever applicable :)

Just curious, does this submission cut it for playground by any chance? Or does it still break playground rules as well?

Is it ok to provide the links to IPS patch files in the description of game pages for ROMHacks? I think it will be convenient for people to find them without any legal hassle/surfing through a lot of internet to have to find them. No to mention they could be taken down at anytime. For some ROMHacks I could not find IPS patches at all, I could only find them as entire ROMs in piracy sites. So I could create the correct IPS for that and provide it. Currently I have them stored in an archive.org item with the .ips files and instructions for how to run each movie (emulator to be used, hashes of the original rom to be patched, etc.) in text files.

Finally finished watching. As many other already point out, it was quite the eyegasm for a while but the length of the run was the problem. Also as Dacious pointed out, the lack of those 3 levels completed makes the goal feel neither here nor there. Might as well include them because the run suffers from repetitiveness already. Considering this, I am giving it a Repectful meh vote™.

When I wrote why this TAS didn't does it, I've got response like "this is just an april fools TAS" and "this is exactly the goal". But thanks for the editor or whoever who wrote the information to this TAS that there is no going over 2048 tile. I didn't knew that.
Even in versions where you can go beyond 2048, just getting there is a perfectly reasonable goal. Its right in the title of the game after all.

As someone working on this for the past few days, I guess can say what my approach has been regarding these (although not claiming it is the ideal approach everyone should take): 1. I have been adding the bootleg games to the GameGroups (Not that I came through many examples anyways). My logic was that someone is interested enough to click a game group will probably be interesting in every aspect of the series/franchise. And if not, then its still not doing any harm imho. 2. I have been adding a game entry to every submission without one especially provided it is an official licensed game. I added a couple of Homebrew games as well I think as there didn't seem to be any inherent problems about them. I have been leaving out submissions that have any of those nuances you mentioned above for now, and maintaining a list of them with reason why I did so. I am also leaving out ROM-Hacks because I assume the way they are dealt with will change as Playground is implemented.

Been following this game's TAS history since the time when modified swf was used to inject inputs. Was really looking forward to it now that we have more robust flash tas tools and it didn't disappoint! Easy yes vote.
