[1650] GB Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 by Greenalink in 29:24.77, oh wait... it got obsoleted an month later :(. Now a more legit nomination [1617] Genesis Sonic 3 & Knuckles "newgame+" by marzojr in 31:16.15, and [1607] GB Super Mario Land "hard mode" by MUGG in 12:14.77, Seriously if 2009 was the year of the Emulator, 2010 was the year of Moon and Stars (I couldn't remember this many Moon rated runs in 2010 than any other year). Edit: [1569] DS Brain Age "playaround" by Ryuto in 04:08.10 Novelty Impact! [1570] DS Space Invaders Extreme 2 by FractalFusion in 07:56.48 Epic Space Invaders music! [1600] Arcade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "4 players" by DarkKobold in 12:14.85 "Kowabunga" spamming after April kisses one of the Turtles.

This movie is a 8:25.62 improvement over the previous movie, thanks to even more level skipping and further optimised levels.
21:49.15 + 8:25.62 = 30:14:76 21:49.15 +x = 29:24.77 X = 7:35.62 You added an extra 50 seconds ;)

Wario Land 3 only came out on GBC. Wario Land 2 is the only game of the GB Wario Land series to be out on both GB and GBC.

No because Capcom secretly modifed every single RM1 rom inexistence ever since Keiji Inafune has left the place. *Sarcasm* Wow this run is a huge milestone when it comes to understanding and pushing the game to the limits. You make a simple platformer into one of the buggiest 8-Bit platformer ever really. Yes vote, no brainer at all.

I decided to upload my run with (youtube) annotated commentary explaining the tidbits throughout the run and what parts were easy to TAS through and what parts weren't, etc. Part 1 Part 2

Using the pipe in 1-1 is only faster for In-game times. Since this run aims for the fastest real time, the pipe is ignored as the transition is too long. Edit: Ninja'd

One such glitch is triggering the end cutscene from level 39. If the definition of completing a game is accessing the end cutscene, then you could feasibly have used that in this TAS to save more time.
I'm aware about that glitch but the only reasons I didn't use it is because: 1. It requires abusing the infinite jump exploit by accessing the debug menu (which I never used in this run, I think the debug mode is like a cheat code). 2. Even if it didn't require the debug mode the cutscene only shows up to the point where Mario steals the Princess Statue. It goes back to course 39, not showing the full ending (and not showing the credits) doesn't feel like an end of the game.
Still, there are a few other glitches here I would never have found on my own, such as the level skip (impossible on a real Gameboy) and the train death glitch. Nicely done, Greenalink.
I did manage to pull off the level skip glitch on the Gameboy player with 2 controllers (1 GBA and 1 GC) The Train death glitch requires a very small frame window and precise positioning so it's really TAS only due to the huge chance of real time human error.

Wa Wa Wah. Nice to see it is published. Since it's going to be uploaded on 2 HD encoders channels, 2 Director Channels (yes Swordless can upload this since this game is obscure on the speed running side), I might as well make a special annotated video on my channel. It will be up on the weekend at the earliest (or later on next week). Side note: Since my status is updated from Member to Player what's with the number next to it?

Nice to finally see another game from my todo list taken. Thanks! Did you figure out why some levels have Wario blazing past the bonus room, and some he only trots by? I used to think it was tied to how many coins I had, but that seems to not be the case here.
He seems to go faster and faster as the game progresses. In the first few levels, the entire level end music plays, but as the run goes on, a note disappears off the end, then another one, so I'm pretty sure he just gets faster and faster after each stage. Don't know why it works like that, but it is noticeable.
Correct. The more you play the game, the faster Wario blazes through the bonus game select room. There should be more games like this really, we got the idea, etc.

I am extremely disappointed to see you submitted an any% and not a 100% run. I'm therefore going to vote meh because I wasn't entirely satisfied by what I saw.
I completely understand what you mean. The main reason why Any% is done now is because of how shorter and easier the run is. Secondly the game is pretty overdued and is the first submission on the site. I am going to expect the 100% run to have better ratings than the Any% run due to the awesome tricks you get to see with the treasure keys. --------------- If you liked this run and want to see an idea for a 100% run there is a playlist I've made 2 years ago. http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=DCEE82033F8D7585 It is slightly out of date because I was discovering new tricks along the way like hyperclimbing and luck manipulating the coins after defeating the boss.

I watched a bit of the TAS last night (part 2) and I was suprised there were glitches for a game that looked very polished. That 'wall jump' and the unexpected jump spam camera glitch did suprise me. I should have watched the first part and see if there were any other sequence breaks. I wonder if those glitches work on the prequel Wario Land 2 since 3 uses a modified Wario Land 2 engine (from jumps to dashes and damage boosting).

That new glitch makes SMW look like nothing. Out of all of the new updates this week alone, it isn't over yet. There is one submission from me very soon probably part way through next week. I just need to talk to adelikat about the non-forum login issue first Yes vote of course.

I also like the silver coin at the end of the giant spearman fight, though that was probably just coincidence that the timing worked that way. Yes vote.
You always get a silver coin from the giant spearman. I only got the original Wario Land 2 copy (Black & White), so pausing the game on the original doesn't show the giant PAUSE icon, so that looks new to me :o. I haven't voted because I haven't watched the new run yet.

I have played through this back in 2003. It was criticized for being one of the worse SMS games.. sort of like comparing the NES version of Strider to the superior version on the Genesis. After seeing some of the playthrough videos on Youtube like this one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CU1k-o4N0I I can't remember if the enemies appeared less frequently if it was played on the European version.

Wait...You can now use the Explorer kit on an emulator? Nice! I'll look forward to the run!
Did a test on Desmume and it works. The real DS will have an error message when using the kit out of bounds, so a DS emulator will have the same result. I got a movie file of the Jubilife tweak. I'll make a dirty encode of it since most of the ones on Youtube are off screen. Edit: Download link http://www.filefront.com/17300859/Jubilifetweak.avi

The New Zealand Story The Kiwi that shoots arrows.. http://www.mamedb.com/game/tnzs Avenging Spirit A unique platformer as you play as a ghost trying to process an NPC to become playable and clear the level. http://www.mamedb.com/game/avspirit Willow Platformer that has some interesting TAS ideas. Easy mode starts off with a higher level Magic Meter (able to use powerful spells sooner) but Hardest is the opposite, starting off with weak spells. Rodland http://www.mamedb.com/game/rodland Slightly reminds me of Snow Bros that you need to defeat all of the enemies to advance. Psychic 5 http://www.mamedb.com/game/psychic5 Really unusual platformer, you get to play as 5 different characters with strengths and weaknesses. One guy is tall and jumps very high while one girl is small but can hover effectively in the early game. Bionic Commando. The Arcade version is a completely different game when comparing to the NES version. Mini edit: Seems like Mukki has produced one and it is currently in the Workbench http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10020 Toryumon http://www.mamedb.com/game/toryumon Despite the 'mon' at the end, it has no relation to any Japanese monster franchise what so ever, it's a puzzle game where you need to arrange the falling blocks to form circles. The bigger the combo, the better the outcome. I remember playing this against the AI on the last stage and it was impossible... non-human like. Chimera Beast: http://www.mamedb.com/game/chimerab According to the database there was only the prototype version, as far as I know it's fully playable during the early noughties. It's a unique SHMUP that you powerup by eating other enemies. The different type of enemy will change the player's physical appearance and weaponry. Blazer http://www.mamedb.com/game/blazer FlashGal: http://www.mamedb.com/game/flashgal It's an autoscroller unfortunately, but the girl you play as looks very similar to Blaze from the Streets of Rage trilogy. Mega Twins: http://www.mamedb.com/category/Platform?start=300 I couldn't remember much of this Capcom Platformer, probably has some TAS potential. Quartet: http://www.mamedb.com/game/quartet 4 Player Co-op and one of the background tracks contains "Se-Se-Sega..... oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah". Congo Bongo (aka Tip Top): http://www.mamedb.com/game/congo Sega's attempt into making Donkey Kong but with isometric graphics. Heavy Metal http://www.mamedb.com/game/hvymetal An autoscroller but has an interesting secondary weapon. You can hold the button to aim where the missile is going to land and you can aim at a target pretty far away. I'll post some more soon if I get to remember most of the other arcade games I used to have on MAME back in the early noughties.

It's very likely to apply to these version but RNGing during battles will be a nightmare. I've advanced the frames by over 200 or so and I get the same results when I command Jirachi to use a move against Red's Charizard on Heart Gold. I did noticed that the results were different when I took an extra step (or 2) before encountering the trainer. This is going to be like Chrono Trigger when it comes to manipulation (according to the old SNES TAS run that was obsoleted by the glitchest 'glitched' run of 2009).

"This is delicious" as Bison would say from the campy US cartoon, the extra features in the hacked version makes the run much more WTF than it already is. I never played the 16-bit console ports but they do look so dated. The SNES TAS runs are dated too (no 2 player battles)* Sure this version doesn't have the SUPER characters (Cammy, Fei Long, Dee Jay and T.Hawk) but they were never in CPS1 form. * I'm a bit curious if there were any combos exclusive to the console ports that you cannot do on the arcades? ------------ It makes me wonder if there is ever going to be a Street Fighter 3 'Rainbow edition' Third Strike. Imagine parrying Chun Li's Lighting Kicks Super, changing a character after each parry... instead we get 4th Strike where some of the characters have some deadly combos that can deal over 50% of damage without much effort :/ Link to video

To me this is a cool run that might have a place in Gruefood Delight. It's hard to argue for publication, because ultimately this is a run of a rerelease of a game with a small amount of content added. The route is clever and it's interesting to watch, but we're ultimately still looking at a run of LttP + a minute or so of added content; in my mind, this just doesn't justify a new category.
Then explain the Link's Awakening DX "Glitched" run ;) http://tasvideos.org/1292M.html That run had the same goal but used a different method of glitching via Wrong Dog Kennel entry as opposed to the Select Glitch. This run has: A different goal (most notable difference is that you can't skip the fight to view the extra ending). Even though it uses a similar method of glitching (Up+Down) , it makes up for it by introducing the Cursed Link glitch that messes up the game alot more than it should. Yes vote because the game is in LSD vision and owns the 4 clone Links with the boomerang that is not even possible when Link isn't cursed.

Yeah those old sages are no match to my bottle of bugs!! This what happens when you clear the game in under an hour with countless sidehops, backsteps and megaflips :D.
