Good to see you're restarting the TAS Gym! Looks good so far :) Just curious, I've noticed other TASes throw the rock from a distance for the gate clip. Did you test that/find that method to be slower?

Wouldn't the japanese version be even faster? Not that I'm complaining.
Technically the Japanese text is faster by a little bit more than the German verson, but the Japanese version doesn't have Map Glitch, which saves a ton of time in the run.

Hey, I've been fiddling around with TASing Ape Escape, and here's the thing: When the game boots up, as it moves through the logos and such, the window changes resolutions 7 or 8 times for whatever reason, and trying to record an avi file off of it splits it up into a bunch of videos because of that. I'm just wondering if this is normal, or if it will affect a TAS to make it unable to be submitted. Also, I'm not sure if it's just me, but I tried using version 1.11.6, and the PSX virtual pad was unusable. It would load, but half the analog inputs weren't showing, and if I tried to use it, it would give me an error and crash the virtual pad. I tried looking for some options to see if something was wrong there, but there weren't any options. Was something changed there that made it stop working? Thanks.

Rocks don't spawn deku nuts. As far as I know, the only way to get any is to either buy them from a shop or kill a deku baba, or roll into specific trees (?)(Is that only in MM?), or open a chest with them. Since we don't run into a deku baba or one of these trees or one of those chests before we need deku nuts, our only option is collecting rupees to buy them.

I remembered this game from my childhood a few days ago, and then I thought it might be interesting to see a TAS of this game. So, with my new computer I set out to TAS this, when I realized that it might not be a very good game to TAS. As of right now, I don't know of a single glitch in this game, It'd be a good 2.5-3 hours even as a TAS, and the opening cutscene itself is 6.5 minutes roughly. So I have a couple questions: 1. What would be a good way to find some useful glitches? 2. Should I even bother making this TAS?

I just held the other direction to change directions in mid air. I found that you can change directions in mid-air even faster if you turn into a ball while jumping. I didn't use that technique though (since I didn't know anout it then), so I probably lost a bunch of frames for each wall jump I avoided. It might also be worthwile to note that it is possible to wall jump up one wall as normal armadillo using the same technique. It only gains around 5 pixels of height each time, but maybe it could be useful somewhere. And have you figured out how to despawn enemies? I knew it was possible, since it happened once in the first level of World 1 for me, but I couldn't figure out how to replicate it, and it could be pretty useful in a bunch of places.

Recently I've been really busy with IRL stuff, so I haven't really had time to work on this. But I took a look at what you have compared to what I have, and yours is easily way better. I didn't really experiment with lag reduction at all either (mostly cause I don't know how). One thing I noticed though that I thought was slower was in some levels in world 2, you used wall jumps to get up certain ledges, but I found it was faster to just jump up them and reverse direction in mid-air. Now, this could be my lack of experience, and so I missed something, or maybe it's faster cause of lag reduction, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Yes, the new TAS will be Any%. 100% would be practically impossible to route, so I don't think that will be a thing for a very long time :( Also, doesn't the current TAS use some NWBN cs skip, or at least some form of it? I remember that area of the TAS did a lot of weird stuff, but I'm not sure what it all accomplished. The method you mentioned is faster though, I think.

Do you ever think that oot any% can still be improved like an even faster block skip in gohmas room?
IIRC Bloobiebla managed to improve the Mido skip by a bunch of frames a while back, plus Skater managed somehow to get up onto the ledge without climbing up in Zora's River after the Aquascape (although that might have been because he jumped back into the water). SVA also found some new strats to kill Gohma through the wall, though I don't know if they're faster at all. But aside from those I'd say our best bet for another worthwhile timesaver is finding a way to skip the web in F1 of the DT without climbing up at all, or finding a new way to do OI without a bottle (and without basically everything else...), or finding a new, really fast way to warp to the credits, or finding some more speed abusing glitches that we can use. As it stands right now, I doubt any of those will be found any time soon, if ever.

Is there a reason that this movie wasn't sent in/published? Was it just not entertaining enough? Also, I still think I'll give this game a try for a couple reasons, mainly that there were a few levels where I thought I might be able to improve using different strategies, and because I discovered a glitch that allows you to skip getting the level bonus at the end of each level, which would save at least 2-5 seconds per stage, depending on the stage, so I think this run could end up being around a minute faster. Thanks for pointing out this TAS though. I looked for a TAS of this game before I started myself, but I guess I may have just not looked hard enough.

You're a bouncy armadillo, and you're travelling through 8 places around the world, beating levels, killing bosses and collecting the scissors(?) they drop. Or something like that. I'm really not sure. I can't read Japanese, so to me there is no real plot to this game. It's fun though. Except for the lag. The lag is pretty bad. I was looking on the NES Wishlist a little while back and someone mentioned they'd like to see a TAS of this game. So, I decided I'd try it out, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. (although I'm not sure if this is a good pick for my first full TAS ever...) I've already TASed the first world of the game, so anybody interested can check it out: The .fm2: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/10823550/ArmadilloTAS.fm2 (Note: I was using FCEUX version 2.10.50 for this, which I think is a bit older, but hopefully it still runs properly on the newer versions) Or on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlcQk-h94RQ I'd estimate the entire game would take roughly 20-25 minutes with the glitch(es?) I've found. If people are interested, I can explain what I've found about this game, and I can finish the TAS and submit it if people think it could be interesting enough.

I'm Hornlitz, I live in Canada, and I'm in grade 12 right now. I speedrun mostly Zelda games (like OoT and ALBW)(although I'm not THAT great at it), and I'm also an LPer. I've been a lurker on this site for a long time now (something like 2 years), and now I've decided to actually get active here. Over the past couple years I've made a couple short TASes for fun, and have read over a lot of the pages this site has in regards to how to make a good TAS. Thus, I'd like some feedback on some of the TASes I've made. Here's a TAS of the Elecman stage in Megaman 1 I made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e409hPpceGc And here's a small WIP of the NES game Armadillo, which I plan on trying to finish and perhaps even submitting to this site if it's good enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlcQk-h94RQ So if you guys could give me some feedback on these, that would be great. Thanks.
