Typically, we lean towards movies with more content obsoleting those with less. Unless the two loops are nearly identical, I can't imagine having both be a problem.

Implemented changes to pacifist since I can't really see any objections popping up.

Another tag that needs addressing is pacifist. While the guidelines suggest it should be placed when it either loses time or is a stylistic choice, it does not mention what should be done if it saves time. If it saves time to avoid enemies, I feel it is no longer a relevant tag. Otherwise huge amounts RPGs would get the tag. I feel it should be used only if it loses time, is neutral time save, or is a challenge recognized in-game like Undertale.

Fair enough, but my point is that "action adventure" (or however you want to call it) is a distinct genre from "action" and from "adventure". Currently on the site, action adventures are tagged arbitrarily with "action", "adventure", or with both.
As I brought up in my first post, with the way we do things currently we created our own genre definitions and expect people to either know what it means or look into the movie tags guidelines to find out what it means. I think that's unreasonable and they should be updated. I'd like to go with more popular genre definitions and names.
I'm not sure about the difference between "heavy glitch use" and "major skip glitch". Since there is a "Forgoes save data corruption" tag, why isn't there "Forgoes memory corruption"?
Heavy glitch use means heavy usage of glitches. They can cut off any amount of time. Major skip glitch means a large portion of the game is skipped by one glitch (or sometimes a combination). There is a forgoes memory corruption tag, but I'm not sure if it's used anywhere.

Don't enemies in cave story respawn? I'd be hesitant to include it.

Metroidvania is a list that was made by a non-staff member without really consulting any of us. I don't know how well updated that list is. Theoretically anybody could make such a movie list. I'd like to avoid delving into certain sub-genres though. "Roguelike" is a term that can cause explosions at this point. EDIT: Agreed on beat-em ups and first person shooters tho.

One quick clarification, we renamed movie tiers to "movie classes" and we changed how two of the classes worked. The system isn't entirely gone however.

With our implementation of the new Standard system, we found movie tags to be a convenient way to filter out what should and what shouldn't be moved. In the process we realized that we never really took them all that seriously before and they were mainly there for the casual viewer. In some cases, I would argue they're not that helpful even then! We have a list of definitions for tags at the Movie Tag Guidelines. However, a lot of them could use more clear guidelines and some of them could use renaming or outright redefining. In some cases, we just need new ones altogether. Unofficial Games could use being split into hacks/modifications, custom levels, homebrew, and bootlegs/unlicensed. I don't know if this is the best way to split but we can discuss it. Is the definition we have for major skip glitch good enough? Should we also apply the forgoes tag to movies if a branch split occurs and the technique is not used in the branch containing an older publication, even if said technique was not known at the time? The genre tags are confusing and are defined according to tasvideos ideas rather than popular usage at large. It hardly makes sense to make our own genres for things when the public isn't going to understand what we mean with them.

does the new design / ui have a design document?
No it does not have a design document. There will probably be one some day. ---- In response to a lot of the UI complaints I have seen, the primary goal of this rewrite is to create a TASVideos that is able to change for the better. With the current TASVideos codebase, it is extremely difficult to implement changes. Recently we started work on a tier revamp that is quite well received. Even though we're a ways along with this revamp, the current site makes it rather difficult and annoying to actually do. There are lots of other changes we would like to implement as well that just aren't feasible on the current website. We would like to switch over from our publication lists that show all movies on a given system to something more game based. However this isn't feasible at all in the current codebase. While the UI had effort and thought put into it, it was not the primary objective of the majority of people who got it this far. If you think you can make the new site look better, by all means please do. The new website is open source for this reason! If you cannot contribute, try to at least be constructive with your feedback. Saying it sucks is not helpful in the slightest. However, there is one direction I personally outright reject taking the new site. I do not and will not accept that we should keep the design the same as it is on the current site. Even if it were feasible, I do not want that. I joined TASVideos in 2014. At that point in time I had lots of friends in the RTA community, and a large number of them had complaints about TASVideos. Some of these complaints were based on misunderstandings. Others I personally feel are legitimate. However, a common theme of these complaints, many of which I see in various forms to these day is that TASVideos was outdated and unwilling to change. I joined TASVideos staff in 2018 with the intention of trying to make TASVideos better. Something I slowly realized as I began to work with my fellow staff members, is that basically all of us have our complaints with the site and a desire to see it improve. The current site limits these changes, but with the new site, as the cliche goes, our wildest dreams can come true. I want the new site's design to represent that philosophy. I want it to be familiar, that we're not going in a radically different direction, but I want it to be clear that we are on the verge of a new era for TASVideos. I want it clear to everyone who looks at the new site that TASVideos is not only willing, but able to change as needed.

I guess I might as well put my personal thoughts on the whole redesigned visuals and design. I don't like the look of current tasvideos, it feels extremely cheap and old. I like what the new look of the site is going for more, but it could use some tweaks.

Thank you all for accepting me into this position. I would like to especially thank feos however for taking me under his wing when I first joined staff. His constant encouragement and praise really helped me feel like a part of TASVideos Staff. I consider him to be a second father to me. Thank you so much, I hope to make you proud in this new position.

Did a manual pass of the entire movie list, still some that need additional discussion. Other then that, it's just removing the few remaining references to "Vault" and "tiers" and doing whatever movie page links consolidation that still needs to be done.

A request for people providing graphical design feedback: It would be immensely helpful if you were to provide a mockup of the changes you desire. Describing such in text makes it hard to directly visualize how they would actually look. If it involves screen width or something else that could affect various resolutions (including desktop, mobile, and tablet), please provide mockups at different resolutions as well.

That's a feature of logging in, same as it is on the current site. If you're logged out it's recommended for newcomers, logged in it's stars.

I had an important question asked to me on twitter and felt it was relevant to share here: "So the old domain is gonna be deleted/archived?" The answer is as follows: Once the new site is ready and all data is properly migrated, it will become TASVideos.org. The old site will be archived. This will not happen for a while but I felt it was an important piece of information never the less.

We have been working on a complete rewrite/redesign of TASVideos and are now ready to open it to public feedback/testing. A demo of the site can be found at https://tasvideos.mistflux.net/. Details can be found in the thread.

1. This user explicitly circumvented a ban put in place on their original account. If they wanted to submit, they should have asked for an unban. 2. This was in 2016 and there has been 0 signs of this user since afaik.

In my opinion, we should treat custom content the same as hacks for the purposes of the rules. It's more or less an extension of a base game.
