It seems your friend is trying to put in all six characters, instead of only five.

Yeah, there has been similar criticism on the "new" poll question before.
I've read alternative suggestions like changing the poll to "Publish to Moons/Vault/No?" or something similar, but to me that seems like it could be confusing to newer users (which also a reason I don't really like the "Moon" tier).
I'd like to hear if people have better suggestions, though.

I got the game to run. Turns out the game loads fine just by renaming the ".iso" extension to ".bin". Also, the 3.00 bios is required, otherwise the game won't run.
Movie syncs fine using PCEjin-svn177.

We finished the first chapter. Saved 62 frames over Aqfaq's WIP (30 frames are gained by Gambatte apparently starting the game up faster, though it also loses a few frames due to more lag).

And again three missions done (10/16). Now only the final stages are left (Secret Base and Moon Base). The final stages are more straightforward, but are also even more densely packed with enemies and bullets.

Three more missions done (7/16 total).
These missions are annoying because they have multiple item requirements, which means you don't get room to bring along your gun. Fortunately, I at least get a weapon of some sort in each mission, but all weapons other than the gun are just slow and impractical. (There's one more mission like this coming up in the next WIP. It's supposed to be two more, but with some precision it's possible to skip having to use one of the items in one mission, which means I can bring my gun there).

Out of curiosity, did you test out a route that would get the Mega Arm's upgrade? I recall there being an upgrade that gave you the ability to get multiple hits with the arm (it kept grabbing the enemy), and sometimes I was lucky on console to drain a lot of life from enemies with it. The downside is that it's a pretty expensive purchase from the shop.
The problem with the upgrade is that it does not bypass invincibility or anything like that, and it does only 1 damage per hit to bosses, so I can't really use it to save time. It also takes 100 P-Chips to obtain, which is far too much. I'd need to go out of the way to get the P-Chips for it.
