From what I'm reading, I think it would be better to replace the movie file to end input when the credits start and let them roll without skipping. That would not lead to a longer input time, and it would still contain the full credits. Then for the encode let the encoder close the save prompt at the end, as has been done with other runs.
jlun2 wrote:
Please do not replace the run with that and only use it for encoding. Ie. do what was done with FatRatKnight's run please.
FatRatKnight's input file does not skip the credits. It's not a directly comparable situation. In fact, what I'm suggesting is closer to FatRatKnight's movie situation than what you are proposing.

For those not in the know: image hosting service Photobucket is starting to block images it hosts on third-party sites, unless the Photobucket user updates their account (at a cost of $39,99 per month, or $399,99 per year). More on this here: https://www.ghacks.net/2017/06/30/photobucket-now-charges-399-for-third-party-hosted-images (Insert jokes about today's (ir)relevance of Photobucket here) The reason I'm writing this here is because many users (as of right now, 208 to be exact) still use Photobucket for avatar hosting - and unless any one of them intends to get a paid Photobucket account, they probably should find a new image host for their avatar before it gets replaced with the below image. ---- UPDATE 15/07/2017: Due to increasing issues I've now batch-replaced all remaining PhotoBucket avatars with the following: ---- I've already seen a few avatars on this site affected, and I've removed them accordingly (and in some cases replaced with an archived imgur version). In the future, I'll be more likely to just remove them outright. The following list of users is, as of this post, using a Photobucket avatar:

It's just a header display issue, no need to worry about such details. Just change it to 'GB' when playing back so that the movie actually starts up. (It's good advice to check the final version you're submitting before pressing send though, especially if you're doing things like this right beforehand)

That picture (encoder logo) is added there by the encoder of the video. If you encode your own TAS to video, you can put whatever you want in there. If you want it to be used for site publication links or TASVideosChannel, it should conform to publication standards, and your logo should be approved by a senior publisher.

TASVideos did not withdraw from SGDQ (although dwangoAC personally did, for his own reasons). link_7777 submitted a SGDQ TAS Block, but it was rejected.

What I get is that a crappy game's TAS (Lynx, Virtual Boy, my NES TASes etc) can be published in Vault if the game's level sets are available from start. Or playing an advanced levels of the game with same prerequisite (Chip's challenge maybe).
As the rule says, using SRAM is not allowed in any case. At that point you're not playing any% anymore and venturing into other types of categories which the Vault doesn't accept. Regarding passwords, the Vault rules defer to the guidelines, which say:
Guidelines wrote:
Using an in-game password to unlock harder difficulties is perfectly acceptable, as long as no other passwords are used, and the password does nothing more than make the game harder or unlock extra areas which will be played.
In other words, using codes or passwords is acceptable but only to unlock a new difficulty or unlock new areas. It is not acceptable to use passwords for upgrading characters, unlocking new characters, or anything else other than aforementioned.

The multicart rule is pretty straightforward. If the game exists standalone, use that version. Only play on a multicart if the game only exists on a multicart. This applies regardless of any previous run's status or existence.

Both are acceptable options. Some prefer one way, others prefer the other way. It's a stylistic choice. For judging purposes, if one movie does one way and another movie does the other, the difference is not counted as an improvement, unless there's a community/voting consensus that definitely prefers one of the two methods.

The latter. Note that brute-forcing bots such as these are only used for limited goals in very short timespans (no longer than a few seconds). This is because the problem space expands exponentially for every input frame. No bruteforcing bot is going to "solve" a game by itself, except maybe something very short and very simple (again, no longer than a few seconds' worth of inputs). Instead, the use for bots like these is manipulating singular events; for example, getting a favorable RNG (like a random drop from an enemy, or such) based on player inputs or actions.

Today, two new BizHawk versions are released. Firstly, BizHawk 1.13.1 is released as an update to BizHawk 1.13.0, with various minor fixes. Secondly, BizHawk 2.0 is released - this is a major new version. New in this version are support for Neo Geo Pocket and Virtual Boy; also added were the Mednafen Saturn core (replacing Yabause) and Snes9x 1.54 (replacing bsnes' performance core). Other SNES and Genesis cores also have improved savestate stability, and bsnes also has improved performance. Note that BizHawk 2.0 requires running a new prereq installer, and it only supports Windows 7 and up, 64-bit only. More information about both releases can be found on this page: http://tasvideos.org/Bizhawk/ReleaseHistory.html#Bizhawk20

I don't want to immediately enforce a hard ban site-wise (since that might mess up some people/projects), but I do think it's a good idea to promote using the SMS BIOS for any new SMS TAS projects (such as any started from this thread), and enforcing using it in new BizHawk versions (at least for movie recording). Then the problem should sort itself out over time.

Do current TAS emulators for GB/GBC even allow starting runs from BIOS? If not, that obviously would need to happen first before we can do anything. Even if it is, it will be hard to strictly enforce turning on BIOS for Game Boy runs, at least in any short term manner. It's like deprecating an emulator, and such processes typically take a long time (easily several months or years) for all TASers to transition through.

"intended" NG+ in most cases consists of allowing the player to load from arbitrary savefiles to curbstomp the game, or possibly skip most of it (intentionally). That does not fly as any% in any scenario, and especially not for Vault purposes.

NG+ is not pure any%, and is not full completion, therefore it is an arbitrary category. Also, NG+ definitely is not always easy to define - see past controversies about glitches with NG+ categories (Diddy Kong Racing, Stafy, etc.). The Vault rules are designed to be straightforward and absolute, and should not have to deal with weird edge cases or complications. The Vault also is not going to accept any other categories outside of any% and full completion. "Space is not an issue" is not a good argument; just because we technically can publish everything, does not mean we should.

Before I can make a judgment, I would like to know if this is one of the common categories in real-time OoT speedrunning, or if it's a custom one. I'm looking at http://www.speedrun.com/oot and either I'm blind, or I can't find any category that fits this. ("All Dungeons" would at first glance sound closest, but given that its record is 1h 25m, it can't be it. This TAS does more.) If this is a completely customary objective that's not common in the OoT speedrunning community, it raises all kinds of questions about arbitrary goals. Such arbitrary goals are a hot debate topic, but one could argue that if you were to choose one, at least choose one that's popular in the speedrunning community. But I'm jumping ahead of myself before knowing the full story.
This category is known in the real-time speedrunning community as MST (Medallions, Stones & Trials), which is the third category listed on speedrun.com. It's a well-established category, and we already have a publication of it.

I don't know exactly why mupen64-rr got banned, but if it's due to emulation inaccuracies, my opinion is that no exception should be allowed, even though it's an objective improvement. I'll await final judging from people more knowledgeable with the matter before watching.
Mupen was banned for several reasons. Emulator accuracy is one of them, but other major issues were syncing issues and encoding issues. (These issues are mostly mitigated this time by the fact that there's a publisher ready who has already encoded the run in question). Plus poor tools in general, but that's the TASer's problem, not a judge or publisher's. The Mupen64Plus core used in BizHawk is an improvement, but not a great improvement, and I don't think Ocarina of Time has any such major emulation inaccuracies that would be a deal-breaker between the two (that can't at least be worked around with the right plugin setup). If the general state of N64 emulation accuracy for TAS-capable emulators was better, this would probably have been different, though.

If you guys are happy having a run that's outdated by 5 years, that's fine. Rules shouldn't be absolute though. It's obvious the site would benefit from publishing the new run.
If homerfunky is willing to submit it, and if there's a publisher willing to publish it (I guess Aktan could, since he made homerfunky's encode to begin with), then I'm willing to consider making an one-time exception to the Mupen block for this TAS.
And so it happened: #5557: homerfunky's N64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time "All Dungeons, Temples & Ganon Trials" in 1:42:29.53

Go and hate me if you want, but I think it's a terrible idea to give exceptions for Mupen. Allow it here and the OoT and SM64 communities will never learn to move on from this awful emulator.
I normally agree with this, but I opted to do this in this specific instance because I believe the benefits outweigh the negatives for this time.

I'm just feeling sorry for the publishers who have to slam their heads into the desk trying to sync it, given the past history of Mupen desyncs.
Aktan volunteered to publish this; if no publisher was up to doing this, I would not have granted this exception.

Note: I've allowed submitting this Mupen64-rr (m64) movie as a special, one-time exception. Mupen64-rr remains a banned emulator and any future submissions using this emulator will not be accepted without a continuance. Also, Aktan has volunteered to publish this movie if accepted.
