Looks great, Phailsku! I know that this TAS isn't meant to be serious and 100% optimized or anything, but if I could make a couple of suggestions: -On the 4th shine (Spraying the beach), you could use this method of using a spam spray out of a rollout -On Pianta 2, the text cancellation by standing within the range of speaking to the dancer when Piantissimo talks to you does work at this point in the game iirc, so you could save about 7 text boxes worth of time there -During the Ricco pirahna plant, you can pick up the blue coin in the 'M' behind the box while waiting for the 2nd phase I hope you take these into consideration :)
Yeah the rollout spam spray actually hadn't been discovered back when I did that shine :\ I was unaware of the text skip and collecting the blue coin during the ricco plant never occured to me. Have these strats been found any time recently? I have never heard of them before but I took a break for a few months and just recently came back.

So apparently the internal resolution settings can effect SMS emulation. When playing back the TAS at anything less than 4x native resolution the 20 shines run syncs perfectly, but at 4x it desyncs. Besides the fact that a normally irrelevant setting is the only variable that triggers this specific desync, it also syncs the first 5 minutes of the run perfectly. Strange. It syncs up until around 5 minutes into the run where a lava goop puddle appears next to a chomplet that isn't there in other playthroughs on different resolutions. I would like to get this resolved so that whenever I finish this run (not anytime soon) I could get the best possible quality for the dump. EDIT: I am running 3.5-401

Shame. Would like to TAS that Game but SMS seems to have a 1 frame delay for input in frame advance. o.o
I haven't ever experienced this, maybe try a different version?

Why would you pick up a route which doesn't beat the game? For your own pleasure?
At the time, Renebalow was still working on his any% TAS and I was not about to start a project already being worked on. I am actually relatively inexperienced at TASing in general, and my TASes reflect that. While these TASes may look fast, they are actually extremely unoptimized and that isn't something I would want in an actual run since that's an important category. The original plan was to just TAS the non-TAS route for practice until I felt capable of making a quality any% run, but I think I might just finish this. The idea of single-handedly taking on an hour and a half TAS with very little game knowledge sounds like a nightmare.

Feeling the hype! Love what you are doing and can't wait to see your run submitted and recieve some more love :D
Unless this TAS ends up being so groundbreaking that it causes a rule change, I won't be submitting this as the route doesn't beat the game.

Looks pretty smooth so far. Though, I remember you being in that same section almost a month ago. Have you just not made any progress since then?
I got really demotivated during the chomplets and took about a month break. I have finished that shine since and am almost done with the pianissimo race, but dolphin seems to have desynced at the chomplets EDIT: Dolphin didn't desync and I have finished Pianissimo

Same as sm64, first frame of level fade in to first frame of shine cutscene (usually is looking up in the sky)

Note that when Bizhawk supports N64 TASing it (should be? will be?) desync-free.
When could we expect this? Probably not until 2015-2016 since I can't find anything about implementing n64 emulation...

I hate to double post, but this thread is inactive and I figured this was worth sharing. Link to video Funny that I won't even be submitting this, as it uses a race file and doesn't beat the game.
