any updates, krieger ? I like this game, so I'd like to encourage you to keep up working on it, your wip looked like a very good first try.

I'm not an expert, so I'd show 2 main criterias : - chance that the emu gets accepted on the site/submission system - time needed for the coder (you atm) to convert the emulator's source code and maintain it Meka's GUI and source code both fail those criterias (in that respective order), so unless Bock helps you or do it for us, I believe it's out of the course. since you're already kind enough to give us your time to make the modifications for us, I'd suggest you take the emulator basis you like most. if dega's source code is easier (for you) to read/alter, then there is no problem you take it. ok some games won't work as soon as they would with meka, but it's certainly something we can live with. if importing gens-9f modifications into gens+ is easier for you, then go with it. I frankly believe that we're lucky enough that someone is nice enough to do it, and we're desperately waiting for a sms/gg rerecording emulator, so I wish you good luck with either choice you make, and thank you in advance.

well it's sad to hear that. as Frenom suggested in the meka thread, this emu with its own windowing system isn't exactly the most practical to alter/use. our third option is dega, it looks just like the other rerecording emulators, don't know if it has windows specific code though.

aren't video games random generators semi-predictable, as the faq here explains it ?

just so you know, it took SprintGod a good 160 000 rerecords to make sonic 3 & knuckles' movie. so spending 60 rerecords it a very very small number. I hope you have a lot of patience ^^

I guess someone should suggest the author to implement some kind of movie format. I'd really like to actually watch other people's speedruns of this game.
a speedrun of cavestory was done on those forums. I'm not sure how it was recording though, probably fraps or camtasia. anyway, if it could be done, I' gladly watch it too.

read the faq already. http://tasvideos.org/UsingEmulatorTools.html the feature you're looking for is "resume recording". yeah I know it's complicated, I can't understand it either, but search a bit by yourself, before asking, will ya ? ;)

there is a "speedrun" button in the menus, and a record list on the site (holder of 1rst place seems to be the game author with about 20 minutes (!!)). unfortunately, there is no replay downloadable to my knowlegde. have I missed something ? since the game has an interesting physics engine, I'd figured that replays would have been nice to watch. other reason is that I suck (and this word is still far lower than reality) at platforms games.

I solved the problem by updating my fceu version with the one provided in this very topic, works fine. the game is well played, the most impressive thing is probably the moments where the character makes continuous upward jumps. the wheel is a bit repetitive but the platforms are perfectly jumped at/from, which gives a very "pro" touch. I vote yes. one question about this 0.98.16 version btw : I paused the movie (windowed), changed some settings, resumed playing and then most colors disappeared (red turned blue for instance). is it a bug ?

nice work so far. just one question : would it be possible to hit the first boss with both the player and its shadow ? would it be quicker that by the shadow only ? also, on a general matter, could you use the shadows more extensively ? ;)

we're still waiting for gens+ (sms/gg support) to get the same treatment, so I guess you'll have to wait more than you'd hope, to see either of those to be done.

I just watched, and I was entertained. Though, I wonder if you could play more with the shadow, for instance manipulating your character to make the shadow(s) kill as many enemies as possible, or even every of them, as a side (or main ?), more "impressive", objective. anyway, it's a nice work, even for just a test run, and I enjoyed it. I'm not disturbed by the boss strategy, as it's short, but I admit it's not very exciting and I fear it could be a problem for some watchers/voters, hence your movie.

would it be complicated to create templates for other formats, and make one tool for all types of movies ? also, would it be possible to have source too ?

yeah finland won eurovision, and none the less with the heavy-metal (or better) band "lordi". just imagine the scene : tons of boys/girlsbands and then, those guys, and they win : yup, that was what was actually on scene, what saw 50+ millions people winning the contest, what they actually voted for. it is not a joke. OMG WTF FFS LOLZORZ ! funniest contest ever, the local commentator swore "look at them, it's quite sure nobody would vote for them, look how ugly they are". but after each vote, he was like "I think I'm going to leave now..." :D haven't laugh like this since a while. (the local candidate he was supporting finished in the last 3, just like every year btw)

one of the oldest nick here (1990), if not the oldest. back then, video games were mostly adapted from arcade, and they required you to enter 3 letters in the hall of fame, after the game over screen. I was quite young and had no imagination. the myth says that I overheard a "Soda Extra Large" order in a fast-food. but it could be anything you want. yeah, even the crappy ones, I'm quite sure some of you have many ideas, I'd gladly hear the original ones.

how would reflexes be involved when you can play the game frame by frame ? you can take all the time you want before hitting the frame advance key. (I feel stupid saying that :/) about stamina though, I admire the patience the best players have to play/rewind thousands of time the same 2 seconds of the game just to be sure to squeeze as much frames as possible.

perhaps editors could set up a page, linked from the emulators page, where the community would specify what features an emulator would need to have, to be accepted and added to the submission/publishing system of the site. this could regroup what we've find best yet, what we find necessary, and maybe encourage development of new emulators (and for even new systems). some sort of faq, as much detailed as possible (like : how the emulator should react if the user reloads a savestate while playing/recording, a template for movie format, etc.) let's brainstorm ;)

I wish I knew anything useful, but I unfortunately don't. why not keeping my mouth shut then ? just because I'd gladly encourage any effort done in order to make sms tas a reality. having now great hopes about the upcoming future. so, thank you for helping us Bock, and greetings from Paname ;)

it looks indeed nice, and it seems it already has support for savestates and frame advance. maybe you could mail the author (with an example such as vba-rerecording) to ask him if he could implement the missing functionalities for us ? or, would we find a hero on the forums ? IdeaMagnate perhaps ? hope is our friend.

what a great surprise ! this game looks like a total rip-off of the famous Psychofox SMS game. that being said, it tells how much potential it has. very fast paced game, so the run it pretty nice ! it does not look like it has always been done as fast as possible (why some slow downs sometimes ?) but it sure is impressive enough, so I'd say, keep up working on this. I recommand watching it, especially those psychofox fans. you'll like it.

ok, it's just a suggestion, as I have neither the guts, nor the time... nor the experience to do a TAS. Ninja Spirit is a very old (1988) arcade game, ported to Amiga, Atari St and finally TG16/PC Engine... to finish on the good old GB. it's a basic beat them up, there are very few moves available, except that the hero can do very big jumps, and collect many power ups. so, what's so interesting in there ? well, one of those power up allow the player to create a shadow clone of himself, following him from a distance, and copying everything he does with a delay. you can create up to 5 clones if my memory is good. example : you jump, slash, and continue running. the clones will do the same, exactly where you paseed, one after each other. they stop when you stop, are invincible. there are 2 game modes : arcade (instant death) and gb (hearts bar). first is more difficult, but second would allow taking damage, hence maybe faster. I'd really like to watch a movie of this game, not only because I suck at it and would want to see it finished, but mainly because I've always wondered how nice it would look if one could manipulate the clones, and make fancy things with them. it might be complicated though...

how about, you (or some other coders) start to write a full guide for "how to add the TAS functionalities to an emulator", if you're saying it seems doable to you ? then, it might encourage more and more coders to provide us updated emulators (did I mention SMS already ? ;) ). some kind of library/guide, I don't know. a tutorial perhaps ? the basics ? to a certain, more advanced, point ?

most pce games are shoot em up. aaah parodius :D other games are usually platforms games. I'd like to see the good old Ninja Spirit game : lots of potential, since you can manipulate the shadow clones to do very fancy stuff. I've heard of another version (nes ?) but it did not look as nice. oh and btw, please, rather sms/gg emulation pretty please :)

ok for the format, I'll do it, can't tell how soon though. about mario kart, maybe you and your friend, both as expert players, could give a hand to zoddtheimmortal for his mk tas project ^^;;
