If I reember correctly: You can force PAL versions of games that support 480p on NTSC into that mode with software. It even works on GC and Wii.
If that would fall under the "forcing games into modes that are not supported rule, I don't know. But I'm pretty sure it's ok, since the gameplay isn't alteres.
So you either got 480p runnign at half speed or really PAl60, which is 480i.
Yeah there is. Well it's not a plugin, it's fully integrated in Dolphin, but it's there. Thre are still a few Wii controls missing, but it's perfectly fine for GC.
In 3D games you usually can't crack the RNG. You change the camera and button presses till the drop you desire happens, preferably without losing frames.
SoulCal if you really want to do this get the newest rev from here: http://dolphin-emulator.com/download.html
A few revs ago were horrible for TAsing. So you should use the newest.
Since the screenshots will be made smaller the edges will get smoother anyhow.
The jpeg/bmp reason is why I always wrote the frames down, so after a screenshot has been selected it can be taken as bmp. The publisher has to have some work. :D
I actually quite like this one. Glitchy, lots going on.
And ofcourse I also like the one where you see the turtle from OOB with the bomb in front of it's head. But sees not many other people do.
Still Link backflipping with bombchu in the FF is also pretty.
I really could go for any one of these 3.
But in the end it's your decision Grunz, and you got to make it. ;)
Oh and finally edit that submission text. :p
Usually you have to put the game into 480p with pressing B on startup (yeah it's the same thing as 60Hz on PAL).
I guess Dolphin can probably force the game into 480p... But a 480p video should be 640 × 480.
Maybe you should ask in the dolpin subforum why the video comes out so weird...
Did you actually put the game into 480p, SoulCal? Doesn't look like it. That would really be important in the end...
@Vykan
Even if there are still the same glitches in the Wii vesion, whcih I don't know, Wii TASes still desynch like hell.
Yeah I got that part. ;)
I was wrong in assuming that PAL60 has a higher resolution like PAL50. My bad.
Btw. found the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_GameCube_games_with_480p_and_16:9_support
I know I'm derailing the topic a little, but can PAL gaes even be put into progrssive? The B-shortcut usually is for PAL60 on those games...
Edit: and got my answer to that one:
Dolphin may be able to force them into that mode but that is a kinda iffy situation...
The confusion was about playing a PAL game at 60Hz and that should have been pretty clear from what I wrote.
Many people won't know the difference between PAL60 and forcing a PAL game to play at 60Hz.
And ofcourse anything can be asked here. But shouldn't the rules be clear? Some people may be turned away before they ever get to the forums.
Btw. is there a list with gaes that support 480p? Afaik there were so few that Nintendo even removed the digital output that was needed for that from later GC models.
But ok PAL60 and NTSC have the same resolution. You got me there. ;)
Making a last ditch effort here:

@Angerfist
As far as I know all MM texture packs are far from being complete. So it would look really spotty. Furtermore I don't think you can apply them with Jabo 1.6 and that is the only graphics plugin that will sync this TAS.
@Aktan
For the love of god, could you please take out the sentence, about needing Anti DS mupen, to play back this TAS, out of the submission text before you publish this?
You could replace it with "if you have a maoras mask save in mupens save folder you have to delete it before watching this movie." though.
You hold B when the game starts. Either it will ask you after a while if you want to switch to 60Hz or it will just do it. Don't know how RE4 works.
It may also ask you without holding B. Like I said some games do that.
Btw. you are not forcing it into anything. It is a built in feature of the game. Has nothing to do with hardware or the emulator.
Edit: RE4 actually supports 480p in it's NTSC versions, so yeah forget what I said about the picture quality being the same with PAL60. ^^"
The PAL game you would have to actually force into 480p, since that feature was removed from PAL games. I don't even know if Dolphin can do that.
If PAL really has the same glitches J (I' still not convinced of this, but like I said don't know enough of the game), using J might be worth a try. Still you should figure out a way to actually use it. :D
PAL has 575 lines/field, NTSC only 562,5. Why should this be any different in an emulator?
It's obviously confusing, since it confused somebody. ;)
Not everybody knows about output standards and what they are.
Tomato, tomato. Either way it should be worded differently.
But the other things are more important, anyway. They already confused one potential TASer to no end. ;)
Only a few games will ask you. For most games you'll have to hold B at startup.
Btw. I was not generally discounting J, just saying, that you should do a little more research, SoulCal. Like if the text speed really differs. And that you should be able to actually use the game. ;)
Other than that I'm looking foreward to this either way. :)
I thought we were encouraging hacks now? So this shold probably be reworded.
On newer systems like Gamecube PAL60 will actually give you the best picture quality and it will still be in english. If you are getting into the generation of the Wii / 360 / PS3, those consoles will at least put out 480p, so PAL or NTSC doesn't matter. So I think this should have an amendment to it stating that fact...
This passage might be a little confusing for newcomers since, like stated, GC runs PAL60 natively.
Well "it's easier" isn't a sufficient reason to use it for a TAS. A TAS is supposed to be hard and make it look easy.
Regarding the framerate and stuff I'm going to copy my youtube comments:
It is a native gamecube feature. The rules are kinda outdated. I'm going to make a thread about it...
My main point being: you might want to look into version differnces a little more before making a final descision on this one... and if you can't work the game on J, that's also not a good thing.
How about just using the PAL version? The added text speed of J can't save you that much time...
Are you even sue that there is a difference? Some newer games draw text in a set amount of time. Not characters per frame...
For Dolphin settings you might want to go with this thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10918
God damn reviewers reposting their videos on blistered thumbs and not even making a little note.
Seems like he already dumped it and will make some kind of video about it at some point:
And people who use it burn in hell for all eternity for good reason.
In that case javascript really is the better alternative. Everybody has it, since youtube won't work with out it. :D
Nah, lame.
Well IE and Chrome just show the first picture in animated pngs. So that isn't that big of a deal. We would just have to chose the first one wisely.
However, I so do not like the animated screenshots idea.
How about the GBT BK skip, again? I think something glitchy should be the screenshot. Even if It's a little spoilerific.
The STT updraft room kinda works, but I don't love it.
I love the pink. It's something different and you will never see the color during a normal playthrough as it's a mix of the two fairy fountain colors.
I am more and more for a fairy fountain screenshot.
Suggested screenshots:
Frame 111087;
Frame 111110:
I think these two show off very well that Link is hopping on invisible ground. I actually think the picture composition in the second one is better. The first one shows the shadow under Link better...
otherwise I still kinda like GBT BK skip, even if people might not gt it.
and this one is pretty:
snap0205
The more I think about it: Unloaded fairy fountain would probably be best to show what this TAS is all about. All the other amazing tricks sadly don't come out in a screenshot, imo.
Plus faairy fountains look pretty nice.
I probably love the GBT BK skip the most out of this run, but casual viewers and maybe even regulars won't get what's so great about it, sadly.
Btw. can't believe I forgot to post this:
Actually has more "3 days" in it than Grunz did. XD
I like looking at a loaded fairy fountain, from the unloaded one, Link mid backflip from the fairy fountain pillar and GBT BK skip.
Alternaively a gif of owning majora 3 in no time at all. :D
Oh btw. Aktan, I said this on youtube already, but great work with this one. It's amazing.
