Callmewoof: >does this break the spirit of this guideline? - somewhat I don't think low% is an artificial restriction, especially not when it is mentioned in the guidelines (which you even quoted) as a reasonable goal: "Generally, to avoid redundancy, we only consider extreme cases (low% and 100%) as well as fastest possible (any%)." >an accepted movie which is LONGER real time, SHORTER in-game time. The reason for the difference? ENTERTAINMENT That is not a good example, since the game is completed a lot faster in the new Mickey Mania movie. This is not the case here. Slower movies which improves entertainment have been accepted before, see Mortal Kombat 2. I don't see how watching more door transitions make this movie more entertaining. I also don't see what the rules for hacks have to do with anything. ----- On a completely different note, I think "RetardHitler" (which is how I interpret the submitters nickname) is a much less appropriate name than GodHand, or whatever that name that got rejected before was.

I have a question regarding the administration of this site: 1) "We do not accept hacked games. ... This rule can only be bent by special permission ― you must ask a permission beforehand before going to make a movie of a patched game." 2) "If the situation arises that you do want to use a different ROM than the currently published run, make a post on the forum to make sure the differences between the two are large enough to warrant the change." What is the punishment, if you will, of breaking these rules? At the moment they are not enforced at all. When someone submits a movie of a hacked game, it is always discussed whether it's a good game for a movie after the fact. Same thing with ROM change. (Rules that are not enforced should, in my opinion, be removed or start being enforced.)

Thanks for the answer. I give this a Yes, it looks very well played. It also means I won't have to do this game myself :>

>throwing marbles can be used to: changing Mickey's hitbox (mostly up and backwards) Can this be used to exit stages earlier, by turning around and throwing just before the exit?

It was somehow less boring the second time I watched it. I will give it a Meh.

I think the movie was cool. For people who want to see more of the game (I don't), we already have an excellent (or so I'm told) 120-star movie, so I think obsoleting was the correct way to go. Also, people need to stop personally attacking Xkeeper for just having an opinion. When saying people, I refer to everyone in particular. >There is a severe problem with "vote no" == "reject the run" in your heads. This is not just in people's heads.

This movie was cool. Somebody (saying this makes me a volunteer) should perhaps switch parts of the NES and Genesis movie descriptions, based on SprintGod's facts.

I was (very) impressed with the movie in a technical sense, but a 1-player movie of this game doesn't offer anything extra compared to the 2-player movie we have. I do not think this movie should be published, but I really hope that you, 红白超人 (something white superhuman?), continue making more movies.

I vote yes. Good going on the ending.

I agree with moozooh, adelikat, and TGprimus, the sliding looks really bad. I have also told you this in your previous submissions of this game. There is nothing interesting in removing animation from the game. What if you could remove all sprites but one, would you do that too? The twitching after the bosses didn't bother me as much as the sliding, but it also looks bad. No variation, only slashing as much as possible. I would rather keep the old movie than replacing it with this.

>If people bitch about it too much, I'll change it Take this as your first official bitching then, that ending sucked. Other than that, the movie was actually enjoyable. So I hope you can make an interesting ending (using one player as a weapon, pretty please?) and resubmit it. Also, the bunny-hop glitch as you called it is old and well-known. I think it was in one of the previous submissions, even.

moozooh: I am curious how you find the subpixel adress. Do you look on adresses near the whole pixel adress, or is it by the usual way of searching? Perhaps this calls for a new topic...

BoMF: It is outside of this discussion, but I made a topic outlining my reasons for wanting to change the rules in this way. The suggestion wasn't that well received.

Phil> Imo, using E is not the good way. I didn't watched this run nor xipo's one. I can't tell which one is better. What I am sure is that movies using PAL version of any games did always confused decisions and such. I agree. Like I've said before, my opinion is that we should be enforcing a "U only" rule, so that we don't have to get into arguments like this one, or Bionic Hitler for that matter. >If it's proven that this run is really faster than xipo's run, even if there is some flaws, I suggest it to accept it. It shouldn't be too hard to beat the current movie if your movement speed is higher. I'd rather make sure this movie is up to standards, than make another hasty judgement I'll have to change. Votes are welcome. klmz>It was all my fault, right? So I was taught a good lesson: never to overestimate others too much, especially those who make decisions. Yeah, that was rude. Good thing you apologized.

Okay, here's the deal: >On some games, the programmers increased the movement speed in the PAL version to counterbalance the effect, but that doesn't seem to be the case here (if you think otherwise, please share your research). According to my tests, they DID increase the movement speed when porting game, but not enough. In real time, the character in (J) on NTSC still runs faster than he does on (E) on PAL, but not by a lot. In (E) on NTSC, he then naturally runs a LOT faster than (J) NTSC. This makes it highly questionable wether we should apply the 20% time bonus for the current run (see the Rules on this), which would actually make the published run's correct completion time around 11 minutes. After discussing this a bit with adelikat, we decided that: 1) for this game (and others with adjusted movement speeds), time is compared in seconds rather than frames. 2) for this game ONLY, use whichever version you like, J U or E. We still favor U versions, and choosing the J version just because of a faster intro is not a good idea. Submission will be unrejected for now.

I am currently investigating at which speed these games run compared to each other. It shouldn't take too long, so please stay calm until then.

In Shining Force 1 (and perhaps other games), in windowed mode, render mode EPX doesn't show the leftmost part of the playing screen, including some of the frame counter. Single and double work as intended. Also, there is no check that all the other render modes (which are now greyed out), aren't selected via an old config file. At least I think that's what happened.

VANDAL: That was a really good WIP. As far as I can see you did everything right. I need to check the framecounts for the individual rooms as well, which I can do tomorrow. I was actually looking for a partner to do this with a while ago but noone was interested. I'll try contacting you on IRC so we can discuss that.

>If someone could help find some RAM values that would be of use, that'd be greatly appreciated. It seems that trying to find a health value isn't working. I tried doing search -> no hit -> equal -> hit -> less than -> hit -> less than, but it emptied my list. I also tried hit -> search -> hit -> less than, but doing that emptied the list before they died. Maybe someone could help? Did you try more than one variable size, that is, 1 to 4 bytes? Try using "different from" instead of "less than" if it still doesn't work, the number might be going up until it hits a certain number where the enemy dies. Good luck.

N. Harmonik: This thing has been discussed before, and the general consensus is that it would be generally uncool. See for example AKA's Sonic submission which waited for smaller bonuses. This is why we have the "Ignores delays caused by bonus effects" flag.

I've always thought the Tasmanian sword thing was a hoax because I never got it to work, but the SDA speedrun finally convinced me otherwise...

>Can any of the Judges let me know what I should do? I'm in favor of using the U version whenever it is available. As longer as you're faster in the game segments (disregarding cutscenes) in frames, it's okay. Does the U version play faster because of 60 Hz or did the programmers take that into consideration?

I was recently in Japan, and while there I tried to access Tasvideos.org from a computer in a library. It was blocked. This is the message I got:
このページは「i-FILTER」によりブロックされました。 URL http://tasvideos.org/ ブロック理由 違法ソフト・反社会行為
Translation:
This page is blocked by i-FILTER. URL: http://tasvideos.org/ Reason for block: Illegal software, Antisocial behaviour
I guess someone could get the incorrect idea about us sharing copyrighted material... but antisocial behaviour? :o A complaint is probably in order, but I doubt anyone at i-FILTER would care.
